    Was hoping to hear about efforts to reduce the cost per flight hour, which is currently one of the big marks against the EF-2000 relative to other 4+ generation jet fighters. The performance is there, I think you can argue that the EF-2000 is the best air superiority platform currently being offered for export in the western world, but when operating and purchasing costs sit somewhere between advanced F-15 variants and the F-35, it becomes a less competitive package. Also would've liked to have heard more about integration of the conformal fuel tanks on Tranche 3+ EF-2000s.

      Yes, I was hoping to hear more about CFT and if any nation will have the leading edge root extensions package in the future. But I did hear a quick comment about extra thrust! Though the eurifighter consortium have been talking about this for the last 10 years.. Maybe extra thrust from TVNs or engine modifications.

      Its that some of the threat evaluation and assessments of hostile equipment/deployments is classified and they cant share it with export customers. So for example if you have a countermeasure tied to the capabilities of a hostile weapon (e.g. its known operating frequencies and ranges) and that nation gets hold of that information through a export customer then they will know what about their weapon systems they will need to improve/alter to penetrate the countermeasures.

    • @shackvan
      @shackvan 5 років тому +2

      Towed Decoy is a "last ditch" type defence, its for when you already have a missile inbound and the decoy's job is to lure the missile away from the jet itself or confuse it to the point that you force it to miss. what your describing seems to be the job being done by "Spear EW" assuming it has 2-way data link, that said the nature of radar means you should normally be able to detect a radar signal long before you're ever close enough for that radar to detect you.

      Hammer 001 I am actually amazed that we are again partnering with other countries to develop and build a fighter aircraft! About ten years ago, there was an audit commission report on the Typhoon which stated that while a satisfactory aircraft had eventually gone into service,, due to the considerations made for the partner nations, it was still a compromise for RAF use, was much, much more expensive than necessary, and also was significantly delayed from entry into service due to France dropping out of the project and Germany (as always!) wanting a simpler fighter. The conclusion made by the government was that in future, the UK would either develop and build it’s own combat aircraft or by them off the shelf if they fully fit RAF needs. And here they are a few years later, building a fighter in partnership with other nations, one of whom is virtually bankrupt! We really need to hang, draw and quarter a few politicians.

      Even the U.S. Navy has its doubts on a purely stealth force. Coupled with newer radars and IRST, and the absurdly expensive maintenance of stealth aircraft, I'd rather invest in EW and countermeasures.

      @@georgesofocleous943 A couple of examples. Attacking ground targets without capable air defence ie. ISIS. And patrolling airspace where you physically intercept aircraft ie. Russian bomber buzzing NATO airspace.
      Stealth isn't a yes/no question, it's how much emphasis there is on it. Reports are the US Navy is looking at a lower emphasis in favour of more capable missiles.

      Typhoon is a great aircraft and will get better with a new E-scan radar, since it was cruelly missing an AESA before. This was long overdue!
      BTW there is no such thing as stealth it's a misleading marketing gimmick. It is nothing more than low observable aircraft which means nothing is stealth or invisible, ie you will get detected at shorter ranges if you have low RCS. Radar tech is continuously improving and so is the ability to detect low RCS aircraft at longer ranges.
