I’m retired, but for my mental health and some extra spending 💰, took a cashier job at Home Depot - I love it. But, what would really make me the cats 🐈 meow would be to blow away the Hispanics who come through my checkout. I want to be the blue-eyed gringo who speaks fluent Spanish. Thanks for the video. Out of the two contenders, I think I’ll be going with Babble as well.
The timing of this video is incredible! I was in the middle of researching the differences between Babbel and Ros Stone, and this came up almost immediately 😂
I am an ER nurse and often have Spanish speaking patients. I have to call a language line in order to communicate with them even for simple questions. I would love to be able to speak fluently to those patients without needing the help of the language line. It would really make my patient care more efficient.
My company is expanding to South America firstly into Brazil. So I want and need to learn Brazilian Portuguese. Thanks for this review which is steering me to Babbel.
Thanks for comparing these 2 courses, I’ve wanted to learn Latin American Spanish for some time now and am coming in contact with more and more people who speak it especially on construction job sites. I’m leaning toward Rosetta Stone.
Answer: I have many reasons for learning new languages, but one of the important ones is that you gain a way of thinking. I speak german and turkish fulently. In some situations I think in one language, in other situations in the other one.
Bought the Babbel Lifetime subscription on their July sale because of your review. I do like Rosetta stone, I also might get it since it has more languages.
I have always wanted to learn Spanish and be fluent enough to do missionary work among Hispanics. I have several friends from Mexico and Puerto Rico, and I would love to carry on full conversations with them in Espanol. The language is so beautiful, and so are my friends. This has been a lifelong desire, and I have taken a couple of courses, but I can’t afford to continue with classes in college, so I’m hoping to pursue fluency with a language app like Babbel. 🥰
Spaced recall is very important, that is why I prefer the review from Rosetta Stone. There is a delay giving space and time before the review. This makes recall a little harder. However this is what we need to have true long term learning. Let’s take the fallacy of “visual learner” off the table. That is not what makes Rosetta Stone effective. It is having to use brain power to figure out meaning. We do not learn through translation. The founder of Duolingo will tell you that. Just read his April 2023 article in the New Yorker. These are some of the reasons I lean Rosetta Stone.
Thanks for the great video! I think Babbel would be best for my learning style and the time I have to dedicate to learning a new language. Thanks again!
I’m learning Italian because I am fluent in French, and while in France, I love Italy. So I thought it would be really cool to get to B2 in Italian too!
Thanks! Really appreciate the in-depth review, with pros and cons for each and your personal choice. My wife and I want to add a 4th language each just for fun, whenever we travel we try to speak the language of the region, as a sign of respect to the country/culture we're visiting, so thank you.
Growing up, my dad always talked about wanting to learn Spanish through Rosetta Stone as it was probably the most popular online program for language learning at the time. Therefore, I always assumed it was the best or most established program for Spanish. The more I learn about different language programs, thanks to you John, I believe that Babble would be more catered towards my way of learning. My goal is to feel confident in Spanish by the end of 2023, and I really hope I can receive your help by winning your next giveaway for a Babble subscription! Thanks for another great video! Have an amazing weekend!
Very informative comparison of these two titans in language learning. I've gotten far too comfortable using interpretation services at work and welcome the challenge of building sufficient vocabulary to converse with clients independently. This video really helps me to better understand the two classic options.
Yes, Rosetta Stone even differentiates some dialects, like learning Spanish in Latin American style or in the style spoken in Spain and Europe. This can be very significant culturally if you are planning to visit or live in either area. They also have different dialect options for English (British vs American) and Chinese. There may be more, but those are the three that I'm aware of.
My daughter (13) and I are going to be learning a new language together in our homeschool. Thank you so much for this great comparison video, it was super helpful!
Salaam (peace) As someone who has learned French through Berlitz, I would naturally gravitate to Rosetta Stone. Now that I am living in Indonesia, I hope they (Rosetta Stone) offer that language. In Sha Allah
Nice job on the details. I was trying to recommend something for my mother-in-law since she mentioned wanting to learn Spanish. I WAS torn between the two, but now I'm fine with even trying Babbel for myself.
I used babble and I wasn't very happy with it because the software is not designed for people that have learning disabilities for example. Rosetta Stone is a little more friendlier with people that have learning visualization is good for people that have learning disabilities that also have short term memory they need some type of assistance to remember what they've seen. I found Babel to be completely the opposite I found it very difficult to work with I found them rushing too much and I also found it not very enjoyable versus Rosetta Stone is much more enjoyable to use for example. They're not too many programs out there factors probably none of them that deal people that short-term memory and people that have learning disabilities not that Rosetta Stone as the best one but I find it helpful and I'm still yet to find something better. You know people can learn Russian for example like through vocabulary or they can learn it through grammar I'm on the path of trying to learn through as much vocabulary and then I can get into the grammar later.
Thanks for your insight. For me, Babbel was very frustrating. It felt like using a textbook, but worse. I was quite successful with Rosetta Stone though. Its style is really very intuitive and natural.
Great video and tough choice. In the end, the immersion aspect of Rosetta is more important to me. I have books on grammar and don't want to think in English when learning a language.
this really helped a lot. I had started with Duolingo but it was too childish and silly and slow. I mama going to do Babbel after watching this Thank you
Great insight, John! We enjoy family history and looking to learn a new language to further our research and connect with relatives in other countries.
I need to make a suggestion: if you are going to provide a “Babbel vs. Rosetta Stone” review, you need to start with asking “what language do you want to learn?” The answer to that question may make the selection for you, so you don’t have to sit through the remaining 12 minutes of the video. Fortunately I thought about that question a few minutes in and checked their websites, where I quickly discovered Babbel doesn’t offer Tagalog, while Rosetta Stone does. So it’s Rosetta Stone for me.
Rosetta Stone also offers different dialect choices within some languages; like for Spanish you can choose from Latin American or Spain/Europe. I've never used Babbel, so I'm not sure if it offers this as well.
It started as a distraction tool/coping mechanism for my CPTSD. I chose Arabic to honor some of the Iraqi translators that served with and supported us in Iraq and then were fatally punished for doing so. I’m not that far in, but if I can pull off fluency then I’d like to help any Arabic speaking refugees I can.
I think I would go with Babble as well. I like the varied drills they offer and the spaced repetition is key for learning. Monotonous grind is not my cup of language learning fun. Plus, it sound like the finnicky speech software of Rosetta Stone would make me lose it.
My family he been doing Duolingo for over a year now. I bought the super Duolingo thinking my kids would do it more. Ends up, one of my kids is grasping it. But my other kid isn’t. I think he is dyslexia and he has adhd too. So that’s what led me to your bodies. Thanks for comparing the different programs. After watching a few of your vids, I’m prob gonna go with Babbel.
Thank you for the informative video! I appreciate the honest take on both of these platforms, as I've been looking at both and am really unsure about which to use. This video gave me more clarity! (I'm leaning towards Babbel.)
⁉️ Q: Why are you learning a new language? A: To teach and learn with my kids and speak to my husband in Espanol, hopefully he will step his game up since he already is fluent, and for travel!!
Thanks for this video. I recently started working with a lot od spanish speaking workers and wanted to find a better way to communicate. Your video was one of the first that came up, and helped me decide on Babbel. Now which plan to get.
I've always wanted to be fluent in more than one language, and lately have been thinking of doing school abroad. I am most interested in learning french since I started a bit in high school and really like french culture. i hope that within the next few years I can improve my french skills and feel confident to travel to france and potentially study there for a while!
Eduardo really appreciates this thorough Rosetta Stone v. Babbel 2023 review. Both language learning apps look like solid options, but Eduardo likes the shorter and more diverse Babbel lessons. Your written content on both programs is also excellent. Eduardo want to learn Ukrainian to further help in their current struggle. Thanks John for another great video!
I want to communicate with the custodial service team that is basically Spanish speaking. Some of the ladies try so hard to talk to me and seem so sweet. Its time to get what i lost back. I sincerely appreciate this video, I've had a difficult time obtaining the proper information as to which programs are the best for me. Thanks!
Honestly great video. Thanks for the info on Rosetta Stone. I wasn’t too sure about how well it works and this was pretty informative. Thank you very much.
I considered learning French, well just because. From what I understand, it’s much more difficult for adults to learn a language than kids as kids brains are still developing.

Aquaman that would be so cool! I love your perspective!!
How’s it going? Are you close to speaking fluently or at least understanding conversations? I’m thinking of buying babbel as well.
To blow Hispanics at your cashier checkout job? 😮

I was trying to decide about which language to buy; this presentation was very helpful in my decision making.

I want to become more proficient in Spanish as I live in South Florida! Great Review of both programs!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks for the comparison of the apps, I'm trying to learn Spanish. :)
My grandkids moved to Germany. They are pretty fluent after 2 years, I just want to be able to speak to them in their current language
Babbel is a great app for learning German (as it's a German company and that was its original course). Good luck!
Thanks for this! As a visual learner, I think Rosetta would be the best choice
Great review. Been trying to choose which one will be better to learn Spanish in honor of my high school Spanish teacher Senior Orona, RIP.
That's great, good luck :)
Thank you! Very useful, I've just subscribed to Babble and so far I'm loving it.

Excellent Rosetta Stone vs Babbel Review 2023
I think the only thing really holding me up in the decision is the greater choice of languages on Rosetta Stone vs Babbel.
Good luck!

It seems like babble is just easier. Rosetta is challenging and completely immersive. No way babble is better. Immersion is key
True about Rosetta Stone not having an easy translation. I didn’t like the picture and choose picture style.
