It's 6:40pm on a Tuesday and I spent the last forty minutes trying to talk myself out of bed and a crushing depression. This song just happened to be on some playlist youtube created and "thought" I might like. I am a big Cash fan but I never heard this song before. But it captures and encapsulates my mood and frame of mind precisely. Johnny Cash suffered from depression and addiction just as I do and this song really expresses exactly the way I feel right now. Even in the depths of psychological angst it is nice to know someone else knows how you feel.
it is a very mysterious condition to be honest. it runs in my family, but im the only one that got it, and im the only musical one. that wasn't going the 'get a union job and get on with it'. If your creative and no one nurtures that i think your whole psyche goes into rebellion. i take pretty mild medication. (they tried this zombie you out sh(T but i said No Way,,, so they were forced to put me on milder things> But i have to take it Every day EVERY morning. One thing though is it DOES get better as you get older 60's. the prep work is like 30 or 40 to 60,,, to accept yourself,,, like yourself and find a way to live where you have safe space/ im kind of a hermit ( have kids but they're grown),,, I stay home,,,, my town is safe but boring,, the world is a disturbance. noise and other things trigger the depression/ptds thingies... i don't live near people, i can see houses out the window but there is alot of space,, (kind of a hicky town, i just feel safer and im 63 so i dont need or want to deal all these tourists. boring place,, tourists invadeit except the weather Bashin them,,
I hope the music keeps you pushing through. Another tremendously sad Kris Kristofferson song Johnny sang beautifully is "Just The Other Side of Nowhere". I hope this message finds you in a happy place. Keep going. It will be worth something later.

Johnny Cash was the best. it's sad that he's gone, I'm just thankful that we live in a time where all this music was videotaped. can you imagine not being able to look back & listen to the greats? that would suck.
There will never be another Johnny Cash. I was about 7 years old when he recorded I WALK THE LINE- Been a fan of his ever since and got most of his LP Records. George Jones said it well about Johnny and other greats with his Hit- Who's Gonna Filled Their Shoes?- Not many of today's country singers are capable of filling such shoes.
Johnny put himself into his songs that made them more like a story of his life. That was why his songs drew so many fans from many different genres to enjoy him.
Whenever I hear Johnny Cash sing I am close to my dad who passed away in 2017, my dad could sing like him and he looked like him . I was brought up with listening to the fantastic one and only Johnny Cash .
This is my favorite song preformed by my favorite musician of all time. Johnny Cash is a pure guitar and voice kind of man. He can do big band stuff like this, but his roots are so pure. True American legend. I cried and still cry about his passing. He inspired me in so many ways.
You know Johnny has a way of making me feel human not less than, not better than just equal. Was down a little while ago. Just kept going to work everyday, kept raising my three kids , and started loving my wife more. All of a sudden I’m starting to feel like a man should feel again. Some say that’s courage because being a Husband and a father is hard but the most rewarding work!
This is a song about a guy on the wrong path of life, but only acknowledges it when he's hungover and down. God bless my wife for getting off that path.
Been there done that, I lost a wife and two children over 50 years ago, that was the saddest time of my life. If you've been through it then you understand every word of this song, if you haven't then you really can't truly understand it.
I can’t imagine how you could live through that. You’re a better man than I am. I hope and pray you’ve found some measure of peace and comfort in the intervening years. God bless you, sir.
I listen to this song most every Sunday morning and always cry like a baby. I send rivers of living water to those that are living it in that moment. I suffer in that moment for them and send love to them. If this is you, receive it from others that feel your pain.
I saw this song in a Columbo movie called swan song 1973 not only a great singer but great actor in this one of the greatest columbo films ever. Genius Peter falk and Johnny cash rip

Payton Allen Kerstetter well said. Kris once said concerning Johnny Cash: “Johnny Cash's legacy, I think if it was one word, it would be 'integrity.' He was the original wild man and grew from that guy that was doing all the crazy things that you read that rock n' rollers do to being someone who was like the father of our country, you know. He was a guest at the White House. He was Billy Graham's friend”
Except for where he stole a lot of the lyrics and the tune from Crescent city blues, and remade it into Folsom city blues. Except for that plagiarizing, he must’ve had integrity.
About Johnny, I was coming home from work and stopped at a small market on SF road in H vill tnn. I sat my 12 pack on the counter just as johnny sat his down. We looked at each other and he winked. I just looked at him a bit star struck.
Johnny Cash one of my very favorite singers this man is an icon I could listen to him for hours. He's country I can't praise this man enough. You would always walk out and say hello I'm Johnny Cash. And you knew who the man was he didn't even have to tell you all he had to do was start singing.

Lyrics: Well, I woke up Sunday morning, With no way to hold my head that didn't hurt. And the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad, So I had one more for dessert. Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes, And found my cleanest dirty shirt. An' I shaved my face and combed my hair, An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day. I'd smoked my brain the night before, On cigarettes and songs, I'd been pickin'. But I lit my first and watched a small kid, Cussin' at a can that he was kicking. Then I crossed the empty street, 'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken. And it took me back to somethin', That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way. On the Sunday morning sidewalk, Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned. 'Cos there's something in a Sunday, Makes a body feel alone. And there's nothin' short of dyin', Half as lonesome as the sound, On the sleepin' city sidewalks: Sunday mornin' comin' down. In the park I saw a daddy, With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'. And I stopped beside a Sunday school, And listened to the song they were singin'. Then I headed back for home, And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'. And it echoed through the canyons, Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday. Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do do, Do do do do do do do

So I had one more for dessert.
Then I fumbled through my closet for my clothes,
And found my cleanest dirty shirt.
An' I shaved my face and combed my hair,
An' stumbled down the stairs to meet the day.
I'd smoked my brain the night before,
On cigarettes and songs, I'd been pickin'.
But I lit my first and watched a small kid,
Cussin' at a can that he was kicking.
Then I crossed the empty street,
'n caught the Sunday smell of someone fryin' chicken.
And it took me back to somethin',
That I'd lost somehow, somewhere along the way.
On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.
In the park I saw a daddy,
With a laughin' little girl who he was swingin'.
And I stopped beside a Sunday school,
And listened to the song they were singin'.
Then I headed back for home,
And somewhere far away a lonely bell was ringin'.
And it echoed through the canyons,
Like the disappearing dreams of yesterday.
On the Sunday morning sidewalk,
Wishing, Lord, that I was stoned.
'Cos there's something in a Sunday,
Makes a body feel alone.
And there's nothin' short of dyin',
Half as lonesome as the sound,
On the sleepin' city sidewalks:
Sunday mornin' comin' down.
Do do do do do do do do,
Do do do do do do do,
Do do do do do do do do,
Do do do do do do do
Gawd, how I miss him.
