    We have been running a gen 1 SmokeFire for years now with no issues other than cleaning and reusing the glow plug twice. Literally close to a thousand hours of use and absolutely love it! I have four other friends and family with traegers and theres no comparison; there’s no searing, no flame whatsoever, it’s like oven cooked everything. All that said, we’ll be installing the twin eagles in our new outdoor kitchen (we bought from you) and are loving the idea of it living up to its reputation and making us feel good about rehoming the SmokeFire. Continue to love all your reviews and videos 👍

    You're missing the best one, the Lone Star Grillz 20x42 pellet smoker. I'm assuming you left it out because LSG sells direct and not through resellers. But if you're on the market for a pellet smoker, you need to look at the Lone Star Grillz. No other pellet smoker comes close in terms of quality, both of the smoker and the food produced by it.

    Great to see the update, great smokers. I know it's unlikely since they don't work through dealers but would love to see you take a look at the Lone Star Grillz Pellet smoker. I have one of those on order and it has that "Texas Built" aspect as well, being basically an offset quality build with a pellet smoker built in, but some really really nice features that newer pellet grills are starting to offer (some on ones like that Twin Eagles and Coyote). Like a drop chute pellet feeder with a small auger, which limits the long auger problems that can occur (a headache for my GMG right now at times). It's firebox is completely removeable externally from the bottom for super easy cleanouts (that's the big one for me right now, after each cook on my GMG I have to dig out all the guts to clean out the firepot or it has like an 80% chance of not igniting then backing up). A built in Fireboard controller (also US made like the Pitts and Spitts controller, the Yoder uses it too) with up to 6 probe ports. A lot of people consider the Fireboard the best in the industry for probe monitoring/management, I certainly agree with the website and app capabilities (though the wireless meater is killer also), but you get that built in already. People consistently claim it kicks out more smoke flavor due to how that controller is tuned. It has cold smoking as an option, an optional charcoal grill insert like that Twin Eagles. A 40lb pellet hopper (which would be great for long brisket cooks, ran out the last time on my GMG and then it backed up into a state it couldn't recover from without opening all the guts and cleaning it out). Main chamber is 3/16th hand welded steel. Really stacked with features and build quality.
    I had really considered ordering that Pitts and Spitts because it also has great build quality, though I can't double down on an older style long auger cooker this time... Too error prone IMHO, the short auger chute style just seems to result in far fewer jams and related problems.

      @MattKingTuT I totally agree with you. Great overview about LSG. I also considered the Pitts & Spitts model 1250 but when I did my homework, I quickly shifted to LSG. I have a GMG, but thankfully I have one of early generation models that are not problem prone.

    • @mefobills279
      @mefobills279 Рік тому +1

      LSG is in a category of one methinks. Why? It's not a jack of all trades. It's focused on being an offset pit. The pellet pot is patented and has a high smolder rate to make wood smoke. I think this is done by scattering some pellets to the periphery where less oxygen. Please confirm. The other aspect is using hot air for ignition and reliability. And of course the offset location of firepot. I think they have a charcoal tray for grilling. To my eye the LSG should have a companion, maybe a gas grill.

    • @M4ttNet
      @M4ttNet Рік тому +1

      @@mefobills279 I completely agree. I think you're probably right about the pot burning differently since people do seem to report more smoke flavor compared to others. I'll be very interested to try. Great point about the hot air ignition, another major plus for the LSG. It's just so smartly designed that I couldn't go Pitts over it for my upgrade.
      I agree that a gas grill combined is a killer combo. Mine will honestly be overkill. I have a 42" Hestan Gas Grill (after the reviews here and elsewhere I fell in love with it), also have a Workhorse Pits 1975 offset, a Blackstone 36" griddle, and ordered with the LSG Pellet I also ordered a Large ISV and a 60" Santa Maria grill. I just can't stop scratching the itch to have every way to cook. Though I think the LSG Pellet + a gas grill is probably an amazing combo that covers most scenarios.

    • @M4ttNet
      @M4ttNet Рік тому

      @@alvinsmith8250 Yeah, the Pitts cookers are amazing. I actually prefer their look more than the boxy LSG look and the construction and usage of stainless steel I really appreciate... though for the same reason I just had to go LSG, it's just so smartly designed. The only thing it's missing is something like a wood chunk/split burn box like the new Camp Chef Pro Woodwinds (which are inferior in every other way IMHO). I actually really wanted an Ironside insulated vertical cabinet smoker with an integrated pellet smoker since it had some of the same things the LSG has like fireboard controller, small auger + chute feeder but it also had support for full wood splits to augment the pellet burner (which get placed over it so they ignite through the pellet pot as well), but also full charcoal + wood insulated cooker as well. Unfortunately contacted them and they aren't making smokers anymore. For about the same price I'm getting an LSG Pellet & Large ISV though to scratch both itches.

    Great info!
    I'd just like to add one little thing. Running a magnet across stainless steel means nothing. 304 and 316 stainless steels are both nonferrous but are arguably not the highest quality steels out there both for corrosion resistance and especially for strength. For $10k I'd prefer to see a 400 series stainless steel in that grill. 409 would be perfect. The magnet test is a common misnomer for quality. As an example you can get 304ss to hold a magnet if it has been work hardened.
    I'd go on and on and on but I don't want to be a pest. This plays heavy in my work and something I am constantly pointing out.

    Helpful summary. I bought a Smokefire in November and have had a lot of problems with it. Failure to ignite, inability to reach temperatures above 480 degrees, that type of thing. Weber customer service was phenomenol, but ultimately, their answer was "I dunno." I'm taking advantage of their generous 100-day return policy and I'll get something else. I like the Traeger Timberline but I'm not sure why it's priced $1,000 more than the Ironwood. We'll see . . .

For some reason smoker was not listed as a go by many reviewers maybe cause not in a average category. Seems reviewers mainly test among the average not really the best best.

      I’ve seen both pitts and spitts and Yoder side by side in a nearby store. Both have great build quality. In the end, I preferred the pitts. If nothing else, just for the way the Pit door opens. It’s heavy, doesn’t but doesn’t need a counter weight. It literally glides over the cooking barrel. It’s not going to get blown shut.
      The Pitts basic cart wheels are another big plus over the Yoder. Don’t need a competition cart to easily roll it out the garage/shed.
      Every pellet grill can make a damn good Neapolitan pizza without a special insert. Only it will take a bit longer than 2 minutes. Not a big deal. That Yoder pizza insert is literally a $500 cash grab from Yoder. Looks cool. But so unnecessary. If you get the Yoder (congrats on a great purchase), don’t waste $500 on the pizza insert. Search for “Vito Pellet Grill Pizza” on YT.
      When I talked with the store owner about both grills, he said you can’t go wrong with either. Both controllers are stellar. He said the Pitts and Spitts is the most steady temp in the industry. Good or bad.
      I know the Lone Star is getting rave reviews, and their fireboard controller temps fluctuate to get a good smoke rolling. Does Yoder share the same controller settings as the LSG? No idea. If so, awesome.
      Pitts also gets a good blue smoke rolling, maybe not 100% to the level of LSG, but….
      Pitts also has a smoke cage insert I’m most interested in. That’ll be my second accessory purchase, after the cover.

    This is stupid!!! What don’t you rack them is a certain price range??? Of course a $10,000 smoker is going to be #1.

    The No.1 spot is a joke. As if "American Made" makes it better or something? I like the videos but putting at £10k machine that just ridiculously pointlessly overengineered versus $1-$2k machines is a bit stupid. If it was $2k yeah it looks good, $3-$4k it would need to be the greatest machine ever ... over $4k you just have too much money in your pocket

      @@embersliving yeah that’s fair enough for American market to like American made but it doesn’t usually correspond to better quality. The car market is a great example of that. I don’t think even at half the price the 1st place one would be a good choice.
