    Great tips, been using yoder pellet grill for about two years now and real happy with it, before I used charbroil from lowes for about five years and it worked pretty good but eventually area around fire pot burned out and rusted through. I also picked up a used egg and between the yoder and green egg its been going pretty well

    Started with a hand me down propane cabinet...last year I jumped up to a pit boss 1150 pro. I targeted the 36 inch size, cause like a truck, you will regret too small... I got 4 racks of baby back ribs on it, and fed everyone. The pork belly burnt ends are always a hit. My next door neighbor also has a grill, and some days, it seems like there's a bbq comp going on.

      one of the things I wish would have been covered is the noise. These things are so noisy. Its definitely not relaxing to have on your porch unless you have a stereo so loud the neighbors will hate you. I was so close to getting a Camp Chef but after hearing one run, that was it for me. I'll stick with my WSM for smoking and gas grill for grilling.

    • @AshKickinBBQ
      @AshKickinBBQ Рік тому

      @@bobf5360 they’re not that loud. I can’t speak for camp chef, but others I’ve cooked on aren’t bad.

    • @bobf5360
      @bobf5360 Рік тому

      @@AshKickinBBQ I guess its all relative. If you live in more remote areas or have music on in the background, maybe it's not noticeable. For me, stick/offset smokers and WSMs make no noise, so anything more is noticeable, especially if you're going to go all night and you have neighbors closer. Maybe it would be helpful for them to post noise levels during operation in dB?

    My first pellet grill was a Traeger, BBQ-075, was purchased in 2010 for $1200. The Traeger is now in semi retirement. I picked up a Pit Boss Austin XL at the end of season last year, for $300. Theb initial build quality of the PB was far superior to that of the Traeger. Of course, the Traeger has been modded over the years and it's still runs like a champ. Inexpensive mods were a Savannah Stoker PID controller, higher RPM auger motor, brushless induction fan, and a front shelf.
    Depending on pricing and the space you have available for storage, you might want to consider buying two smaller units instead of a large one. Foods like brisket and pulled pork cook at completely different temperatures than foods like turkey or chicken.

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 роки тому +5

      Great tip Jeremy!! I agree I will always need to pellet grills and not because I cook so much food but I like some of the pellet grills I have ran better for cooking poultry. My Smoke Daddy 1190 made some of the best turkey and chicken I have ever smoked on a pellet grill no reason why but it just does??!!! Plus filling up one pit and cooking with it full takes forever so 2 you can crank out the protein even faster!! I appreciate you leaving the comment brother and thanks for watching!!

    Another great video and very informative. When people ask me about my pellet smoker now I have a go to video to send them. My issue is I’ve ordered a 20X36 LSG and my build email should be coming sometime in Mid December and I could go bigger then. The 42 is only a few bucks more and it’s not the money but the space on my smaller backyard.
    The 36 will already be more than 2 times my current grill. Decisions decisions??

    • @DeadBrokeBBQ
      @DeadBrokeBBQ  2 роки тому +2

      Ya Jerry bigger is good but not always the answer!! I say you are taking a big step up and you will have plenty of room in the 36" but that jump up to the 42" certainly is not a lot of extra money!! I was looking at a pit boss 850, but I went with the 1150 for the easy ash clean out. Don't have any complaints other than than the front shelf can collect more trash if the inlaid logo. It collectos more than I would like it to, and it's kind of a pain to clean out. Other than that I love it. I've smoked many a pork butt and brisket on it. I'm gonna smoke a couple of turkeys for Thanksgiving on it.

    I have the Recteq Bullseye. It's basically a pellet fired Weber Kettle. 200-749 degrees for $400. It's just me here, so I didn't need a big smoker and I do more burgers and chicken than I do smoking big cuts of meat. It smokes just fine and will sear a ribeye perfectly. I have the Grillgrates and the griddle addons for it. Pulled pork, steaks, chicken, bacon, eggs, pancakes all turn out great in the Bullseye.

    Ricer, well done. I liked how you presented this information. And it's a tricky question to answer. Especially if the viewer is new to outdoor cooking. I believe the most common misconception for folks who are new to outdoor cooking is the thought that if they spend a ton of money on a cooker that they will be making the best bbq there is ( wow,was that a long sentence, I need to work on that 🙃) . And unfortunately I believe this turns some folks off to getting started in outdoor cooking. Harry Soo is correct, it's not the pit,it's the pitmaster. A person can cook great food on a cheaper cooker. But boy howdy, a better built ( more expensive) cooker sure makes the cook easier and more enjoyable. That's why I like the idea of having some sort of experience level classifications. Beginners, experienced, pro or compat

      It smokes but no the food is the best pellet grill BBQ flavor I have ever made hands down. I have fed my friends that also have pellet grills and they have all said it beats the bbq they have made on their pits. My good friend Tommy from Backyard BBQ is cooking on a LSg tomorrow and filming it. It is a subscriber of his so that is a good test to see what Tommy thinks of the pit. Plus my other good friend Rus Jones from Smoky Ribs and I talk everyday and we both agree that the LSG is the closest thing you can get to an offset. Plus the airflow in this pit runs way faster than my old offset did so the smoke doesn't hang in the chamber long at all. Just kisses and blasts out to the neighbors house so they get hungry too!! Join the Lone Star Grillz Facebook group. Lots of people posting in there. FYI the LSG pellet grill will never leave my house until I am dead and then my boys can fight over it!! hahaha Thanks for watching and the LSG is the real deal.
