Great video! I bought a viper-401 just like that back in 2010, and still have it today. I remember getting it on a warehouse closeout deal from Musician's Friend for $199! The only mistake I made was not buying two!
Nice. Yes those are excellent guitars, if I see any used ones I’ll probably buy it. I just got 2 Kramers but the quality is not what it should be unless you buy the ones that are at least in the 1000.00 ball park area.
Ok, I've had a 400 series for about 14 years. Here's my review. The only difference between mine & Lounge's guitar is mine has a see-thru red paint job & the top is just plain wood. I bought this guitar because I like the more modern take on the SG, the EMG's & the simplicity of a TOM bridge set-up. The tuners are non-locking and work fine, nothing great there. The Earvana compensating nut does not compensate enough, the notes still get pulled sharp at the 3rd fret so a little more set up was required. After 15 years the strings have started to cut into the nut so some of the open notes buzz against the 1st fret, I'm planning on replacing it with a brass compensating nut, they've worked great for on other guitars I've repaired. Frets are great, they're meaty and smooth. The action was horrible on this guitar until I finally figured out how to set the tension on the truss rod. I made the mistake of using my straight edge down the center between the 3rd & 4th strings. That area of the neck played fine. It was the 6th string that would buzz from the 1st fret to around the 9th when I play hard & I get carried away and play hard often. Then, I got the idea of using the straight edge between the 5th & 6th strings, tightened the truss rod until it was perfectly straight, now the action is low with minimal buzz that doesn't come through the amp, we're talking 1.5mm on the bass side & 1mm on the treble side at the 12th fret. The scale length of the guitar is a bit shorter, I believe it's 24.75" with 24 jumbo frets so the higher frets start to become a little crowded for me & I'm a small guy. The TOM bridge makes it easy to set the intonation. It does play in tune throughout the neck. The bridge did collapse down the middle because I had the stop tail piece too low. I straightened out the bridge & raised the tail to minimize the tension & the issue hasn't returned. The body is contoured in a way that is comfortable to play whether you are sitting or standing but is a little on the heavy side. Knob placement is ok. I did however swap locations with the pickup selector & the volume know closest to the strings & I rewired the knobs to control the volume of each pickup. I never used the tone knob, ever. I enjoy playing this guitar because even though it sounds a little thinner & more nasal than my other guitars it still has it's own aggressive tone all it's own, stays in tune, is comfortable to play & easy to drop tune on the fly. Edited: I incorrectly stated mine was an 800 Series, but I just looked at it 5 minutes ago & noticed it says VIPER-400 at the 12th fret. My mistake. Everything else is still accurate though.
I have an LTD Viper-100, it's the guitar I've used every time I've been on stage. I did this crazy thing when I was younger though, for each show I wanted it painted a different color! So when I joined Dying Thought it was painted red, I covered the neck & pickups with masking tape and spray painted it green! Then after that show I masked it off again and sprayed it brown in preparation for the next show. I still have the guitar, it's in pieces, all the layers of paint mostly sanded off, waiting for me to decide its final finish. I need to make a video about it one of these days
I have the same guitar as in the video and originally I wanted a les paul epiphone but I gotta say now that I’ve been playing with it for a while I really like it. Great vid man! And I almost forgot to say, thanks for playing some sabbath 🤘🏼
What's your opinion about the fact many people say ESP guitars and the EMGs are specially for metal? Do you think this is a better choice than the Epiphone if you wanna play Hard Rock or more bluesy stuff?
@@adrianarias6418 Well if you want to play metal, esp with emgs is the way to go for sure, hard rock bluesy stuff epiphone is fine, the esps have great fast necks for speed! there are a lot of guitarist's that play les pauls like zak wylde, so many so its your choice. I bought mine in 2006 I think it was, korean made. Sunburst. It's got dings here and there but nothing really bad. All the hardware has held up very well. The jack is giving me some issues, but after 17 years of medium use it's expected.
Its not super heavy at all it does have a little bit of neck dive but i use a leather strap and that takes care of it. Its a great guitar! i have played with it in band practice for hours and it doesn't get me tired. Thanks for watching!
Looks like you don’t rest it in your kneee when sitting but shorten your strap up? I have the viper-cz and I love it sounds but find it isn’t as comfortable as a strat style
Yes you are correct when it sit and play it shorten the strap up just for that moment of practice. That is the only problem with these guitars, Strats are super comfortable to play for sure or even les pauls are great . . Thanks for watching.. ✌️
Black Magic by Slayer is standard tuning. Show No Mercy was all 440. Give me 1/2 down forever! Slayer, Kiss, Budgie. 1/2 step is the best. Sweet guitar. I have one, plays so well. Mine was Made in Korea. Had for like 20 years.
www.earvana.com/ Hi there friend thanks for checking the video out.. I have never played the Viper 10 to tell you for sure but i really like LTD guitars and for a beginner guitar it probably would be good.
I got this guitar just to experiment and see how 24 frets would feel like in a shorter 24.75" scale. I think it's going to feel really comfortable to people with short hands. Mine is in a red satin type of finish. The pinch harmonics in this thing are unreal. They come out so easily and scream. Most of the red ones I saw back then used to be all made in China. I guess now they make it in Korea or Indonesia and might have increased the price a little
@@therocknrollguitarlounge7057 I think it just depends on the year. Probably started with 81/81 and then switched over to 81/85. Mine's also made in Korea...I can't tell for sure from the angle you had it at, but does your serial number start with R? Mine starts with W, which stands for WMI. If so, I think it would mean it's made in a different Korean factory which would explain the slight differences. Either way, looks and sounds killer. Btw. I also have a Valveking 112 :D
@@SymbolicSplenetic oh I see I didn't know that about the serial numbers mine has an R .
