- Folks, this was the guitar used in 30 Pedals in 30 Days. Tomorrow, one person will be the proud owner of this fine axe. But, before I shipped it away, I figured I'd give it a proper review & goodbye! And, don't worry - note to winner : I will polish it up, so it looks brand new!
Here's TheToneKing.com official writeup on the Viper:

I love how every guitarists get their own little lick or scale to play with on every guitar. Its like something that you get when you start playin, you play that open notes its just so awesome. I look on all you videos and the chord is there haha, I have mine too, I don't know shit about scales but I do a little blue scale solo on all the things I play haha.
Hey Tone king What did tou use to make the intro guitar and amp wise that is some sick tone? Plus you seem to be getting better at playing guitar. You still use that one little cheesy pentatonic lick to much but i love the reviews you are very thorough in you descriptions. I have been a long time subscriber. Keep up the good work.
These pickups aren't too high output. They're more like a really clean passive pickup really with a little different EQ.
Beautiful guitar, definately sounded great through all the pedals that were used with it, great job TK!
Thanks for the 30 pedals in 30 days TK!!! Fun as always :)
Rock on Tone King!!! Is that a V3 right behind ya? Hot bronco white! Nice!!
I don't mind ESP bolt ons because they have that cutaway, what I was curious about though was the sound of those ALH-200 pickups. They don't sound very good in the video compared to some of your other reviews of guitars with EMGs and Blackouts... What is your opinion of them?
aww man, 30 in 30 always flies by so fast :(
Thanks for doing what you do, TK!
I think set or bolt-on neck is all about preferences, not about crap or not
I'm really tired of bolt on and rosewood so I left Ibanez for Carvin and am all about neck through and ebony now.
I have the G400 myself, and I have to say it's incredibly good for metal and grunge music, if you've got a decent amp, but even I'd have to say the LTD Viper, due to it having active pickups, which are guaranteed to be higher output than the stock pickups in the Epi
I had bought my daughter an LTD Viper, I think it was a 200, several years ago. I recently picked the guitar up and played a couple of chords. It was one solid cool guitar. I really liked it, but I wish they would make them with better pick ups/ or qualti passive humbuckers. I would also like to see the option of getting moon inlays rather than the flags. I am just not a fan of the flags.
Would you recommend it over a squier jim root tele? tanks man, great review!
How do the pick up compare with the 81/85 on the viper 400. Or the 300. I am considering buying one of these and would love to know.
Reminds me of the neck plate used on the 1990s bolt on esp standard eclipse.
Nothing wrong with bolt-ons :-) I still remember your phone call during the live show and he states the bolt-ons give you better sustain and a better neck to body contact. He's not a newcomer to guitars either. LOL I would be proud to win this guitar. Good review TK. I like where the input is placed jack better in this LTD than the Gibson SG.
I think I would like this LTD Viper much more than a Gibson. As I could see, the Viper has a very thick body, and that draw my attention! =) I think that Fender guitars explain pretty well why bolt-on guitars rocks! We have a lot of heavy metal/ hard rock strat players out there, like Malmsteen or Blackmore. Also, I think bolt-on guitars are cooler because it's possible to do more neck fine-adjustments, like changing neck angle at the neck pocket.
apart from active pick ups and the fret inlays what is the difernce between this viper and the viper 50
hey tone king, I as well as many others would absolutely love to see a review of an Agile Interceptor
good review, as for the bolt ons :) unless you shred down there it doesnt really make a big difference to me
The viper is amazing, I've played the Gibson shape SG and it is lacking room to play the higher frets for me. Love how they did the cut away deeper on the LTD...ESP ftw \m/
hi tk yes awsum man, I agree, i have 25 guitars in my collection, set necks neck thru....and bolts. Its funny to me that some people think that a "bolt on is crap"...I love bolts they are snappy !!!,and add life to a guitar.. The neck wood is touching wood body....If its done right.....No Glue to hamper sustain. Dont get me wrong its just one way to build a guitar. I love the Ltd series they are the best playing imports around....Thanks again tk I really enjoyed the 30 pedal series....Pete
almost every guitar i own is bolt on it really never made a diference to me i can still acsess the high frets. there is also safety in bolt on if your neck breaks from the guitar falling (knock on wood) you can simply buy a new neck an shove it on can to that with a neck through!
a local shop of here has one of these in gunmetal-blue and I'm struggeling so hard to get either these or the ltd ec256 with the black cherry sunburst
are you gonna review that snakebyte hanging in the background.
That is a given, that neck thru designs are the best you can get in regards to tone transfer and sustain. When everything is on the same piece of wood, you can't beat that. I was primarily refering to set necks that are glued in. Now, that being said, many are going to point out that PRS guitars, which are one of the top quality mfgs, are exclusively set necks as well as some Gibsons. Just think how good they COULD be if they adopted that design :)
Nice guitar!!! Love the Vipers!
I like the guitar :) Feels like its a very strong body.
Tho if you are used to glued necks you would probably think it is heavy.
I modified my own to give it my own looks but its quite good.
@0Heavy0Metal0 that's actually an interesting theory and I can sort of see his point. My favorite guitars by far ar G&L and they are bolt on so I don't see bolt on as low quality at all.
i cant decide on the ESP LTD Viper 330Fm or the epiphone sg g400. I lay metal, grunge and punk and prefer a guitar that isnt to heavy. which one would you recommend?
which one did you go with?
How do we enter for the guitar giveaway TTK?
@0Heavy0Metal0 What about neck-through guitars that are all one piece? I'd think with the guitar being all from one piece of wood would make the best tone. (Just an opinion. I still like bolt-ons, but prefer neck through guitars
i just want to know and ask..
This guitar is heavy or not?
please somebody answer my question. thanks.:)
How's the weight on this? Is it heavy or light?
is this one identical to the Viper-330Fm?
sick guitar man love it
Thats awesome keep up the great vids
u have a very clean tone based style even when u play heavey but i can tell its u playing when i hear u
basically but this one is all mahogany while the 330fm is flame maple
What model of ibanez do you have?
what's the guitar on the back?
My brother is a very good luthier. He's a graduate of MI and is as big of guitar freak as TTK. And he will ONLY own and play bolt on necks. Why, do you ask? Glue kills tone. Period. Wood-to-wood contact is the best tone transfer. Ed Roman is his hero. The bolt-in (not bolt on) design is one of the best guitar developements of this century. I don't know if I wholly agree with it, but that's his stand. Comments?
This was a real good review TTK.
Its a really nice guitar, I hope I win. :)
Bolt ins are do good. So bolt ins I've played over the years play better than neck through. Bolt ons
Id like that one,i honestly need a guitar cause i can't get one myself :s and i want to play guitar so bad
I'll miss the 30P30D into :)
