Exactly!! Ever since the album release, all I could listen to is this album only 😭 it's only his voice that has been on my mind and even when I try to listen to other songs, I couldn't. I end up coming back to the Circle😭
The slightly ominous part in No Parachute might have something to do with the lyrics, the lyrics are talking about coming out of your comfort zone/safe place to do what you've always wanted to do despite the risks and fears. Walk with You's vibe reminds me a bit of SHINee's "Days and Years". The korean title for Always means "ordinary night", the lyrics have a similar comforting vibe to Circle. "Good days are always regrettably short and darkness seems longer than day. On an ordinary day, on your ordinary night, I'll stay by your side, unchanging. Sleep deeply now, your long day will turn into yesterday. You won't have any bad dreams, I'll stay right here. As time passes and anxiety swallows you, on whatever day, I'll protect your night unwaveringly. I'll always be by your side. Always." The last song some how loops back to Circle seamlessly, like a circle... Onew directed every aspect of his album including picking the tracks, the mixing and the order of the tracks.
I'll put it this way Onew when he sings it touches your soul in a wonderful way and you can just enjoy the beautiful performance. Personally every song is really well thought out but I can't choose 1
Onew took us to different seasons thru this album. The way he is so much involved with everything about the album says so much about this man's artistry. People are expecting him to go off with big high notes but like u said, he no longer have to prove anything, we already know that man got lungs of steel. This album really showcases his vocal techniques. He said his objective on this album is for people to find happiness and healing and he delivered it very well. AOTY for me.
I’ve been listening to this album on repeat and I just can’t bring myself to put it on shuffle because the track order has so much purpose and meaning. Onew’s voice and this entire album is perfection. The only other Kpop artists I’ve seen put out such cohesive albums are 1st gen artists (and some 2nd gen) because full albums were the norm back then. And of course the other Shinee members. There was an article recently counting how many solo full length albums SM artists have released and 75% of them were from Shinee members (Taemin with the most with 5 full length albums). I can’t wait until you get to Taemin and Jonghyun’s solo albums because this group’s passion for music shows in everything they do. Onew came close but Taemin’s NGDA Act 2 album is still my favorite full album by a solo Kpop artist.
Yeah, that makes sense that they thought more about albums as a whole since they released more full albums back then. And yes, I can't wait to hear their solo work. Thanks for your insight.
If you have a chance, check out his performance of No Parachute from his recent concerts: ua-cam.com/video/aMhavZg6ZNo/v-deo.html It spotlights that ominous part very well. 👀 And yeah, the performances for No Parachute, Expectations, and Beauty (one of Onew's Japanese songs, which he included in the concerts) were definitely the most popular.
Your insight into this album is amazing. Billboard chose this album, the best Kpop album of the year 2023. Onew is not only a K-pop idol but also a singer as a talented artist.
Always reminded me of sam smith's stay. I also expected to it to get bigger but I'm okay with how it is too Jonghyun's She Is is also a great album with an arc

Oh, thanks for the lyric translation.

I agree. All the songs on this album are great.
Always has such simple but beautiful lyrics I guess it is something most of us need to hear
Yes we do. I was talking about how I wish there were more sad songs in k-pop, too. We all go through things and music helps us through it.

I agree. He has nothing left to prove. This album was just him doing what he wanted to do.
*This album is incredible.*
