I wonder what you can do with this tool if it's a flange bolt meaning it's located pretty close to the exhaust pipe? I see all of the inserts are straight assuming you have a good access to the bolt like in your video. I wish it came with some angled inserts for those cases where everything is sitting pretty tight...
You want to try not to touch it, the fiberglass cover you want to try not to destroy. The kit does have one very flexible piece that I have wrapped around pitman arms to get them off. Pretty much can't avoid ot at that point.

The inserts are flexible. And there’s one you can get that’s straight you can bend around stuff then plug in.

is it ok to rest the ring on the bolt or do you have to be carful to surround it but not touch it?

It should, as long as you can get around it.
