  • Today's video is not the happiest, but we hope to help others learn from us and to hopefully help keep other's flocks from the same kind of attack.
Sorry for the editing blip. There is a small gap in the video before we show the coop.

You handled this with so much maturity and grace, as did the dogs owners. Thankful for your example

I'm so sorry to hear this...that's amazing how the owner re-homed the dogs...good to hear and rightfully so. And you're right, it's a teaching moment on how you'll navigate going forward - it will be ok and yes, part of life. We lost what we called our Queen chicken and I was overwhelmed with emotion, but knew it was a teaching moment as we build our new homestead. Been thinking of you two and hope the house renovations are coming along. We break ground in June after I get the garden in the ground here in SW MI. Blessings to you both, will be praying for you and the soon little ones. Hope your kids are doing ok with all this...Hugs.

Thank you so much, definitely been a teaching moment for the kids as well. I think they're more resilient than we are.

24 acres in Wolfe County. We've surprisingly not dealt with mice/rats (in with the birds anyway), possum nor racoon. We've had dogs running wild/free but as of yet they haven't messed with our birds. We dealt with coyotes getting more and more bold around the house. I suited up and grabbed my AM-15 and literally chased them off. Popped a round off that missed but we haven't seen tracks or heard a peep from coyotes since. That was a little over a year ago.
We're really sorry to hear y'all had to endure this sadness. Glad you were able to resolve the dog issue how you were. It's definitely a tough call when it comes to people's dogs coming in causing destruction. Sounds like in the situation you made the right call. That's not easy sometimes with the time constraints those situations create. God bless y'all!

Rhode Island Reds are great! We like buff orpington, comets and Easter eggers. The wife wants to check out barred rock now.
