Starts from picking a server and creating a character all the way to tips for questing and companion. These tips are specifically for players starting in 2017 and 2018.

#1 Before you make your SWTOR account, you can use a subscribed friend's referral link so you can get some free goodies ingame. If you are returning to the game after a break and have subscribed in the past but aren’t subscribed right now, you can also use a referral link to get a free 7 days of subscription - use them well! See the description of this video for a link to more info about referral codes. I’ve included more info about referral links in the description of this video if you want to use one.

#2 Be aware of what’s available when choosing a server. At the time of making this video the developers are getting ready to merge the servers to make it easier for players to play together. If you are in North America and live towards the east, you'll want to choose the Star Forge Server. If you live near the west you'll want to choose the Satele Shan Server. If you live in Europe and speak English, you'll want to choose Darth Malgus, si vous parlez français (if you speak French choose The Leviathan), and Wenn Sie Deutsch sprechen, bitte wählen Sie das Tulak Hord (if you speak German choose Tulak Hord). All east coast servers will now be merged into Star Forge, all west coast servers are being merged into Satele Shan, the European language servers are being merged into one server each respectively.
#3 Choose a class that seems interesting to you - there is no "best class" and they are fairly well balanced. The most commonly chosen classes are the Jedi Knight followed by the Sith Warrior. If you need more help choosing a class, I’ve made a video called “Which class should I choose?” you can watch.

#4 Be aware that only certain advanced classes can heal or tank... So if you want to play those roles, make sure to pick a class and advanced class that allows you to choose those roles. All classes can be DPS, which means they focus on dealing damage, but only Smuggler Scoundrels, imperial operatives, Jedi consular sages, sith Inquisitor sorcerers, trooper commandos and bounty Hunter mercenaries have the ability to heal, and only Jedi consular shadows, sith Inquisitor assassins, Jedi Knight guardians, sith warrior juggernauts, trooper vanguard and bounty Hunter powertechs have the ability to tank. Ooof that’s a lot of info, just look at the chart instead. That doesn't mean it's the only thing those advanced classes can do - you can switch between being a healer and DPS or tank and DPs on those advanced classes.
#5 You can NOT change your character's class or advanced class after you choose it. You will only be able to change your specialization within that advanced class, for example from DPS to healer. This specialization is called your combat proficiency and each advanced class has three to choose from. Players often swap between them for fun or to help fill the needs of their group when playing together.
#6 On a free to play account, you will only have access to playing three races - humans, cyborgs and zabraks. There's a variety of ways to unlock the other races - but all of them are difficult to do on a free to play account. Your species does not have a major affect on the game, so pick the one that interests you the most. Subscribing unlocks more options, others can be unlocked through playing the game, and others like the Cathar and Togruta can only be purchased on the cartel market or from other players with credits. If you want to know more about unlocking races and your character’s appearance, I’ve got a video called “Character Creation & Appearance”, you might want to watch.

Thats a dedication you rarely see on this plattform. So, keep up the great work!
Cheers! Really love the game and talking with people about it :)

I firmly believe without Vulkk, Swtorista etc the game would be dead.
Never heard of this game until it was added to Steam recently. Crazy cool they added your tip video to their launcher!
Can you play this on a Mac??

@@wichiewamirez5599 yea but it’s kinda difficult to figure out how to unless you know your shit pretty well
Really? It was very popular when it came out. Welcome to the game

"Heroic quests are designed for groups of 2-4 players."
Well, that explains my constant solo death.
This might have been true when this video was made, but not anymore. If you have a companion and they are set to heal then it should be very easy, if not for a few of them time consuming, to do heroics. If you are dying then make sure you have a companion that is set to heal (it's the default option). You could still die if you are very new to MMO's, but then just make sure you only engage 1 group at a time in that case and you will be fine.
Zektor thanks I didn’t even know that ✊
Well you can die, revive then use the time you got from 12 sec invicibility to advance to your objective. Hella useful when you have to interact with things. Stupid and inneficient yes but works for me
Congrats on getting a link directly on the SWTOR Launcher! You deserve it for all the hard work you put into your channel.
Thanks! That was very cool to see!
"You can press Esc if you didn't like your dialogue choices"
Ffffff....
WAIT YOU CAN
I pressed esc in the first cutscene on my sith inquisitor several times because I thought it was to skip :(
No, not F, Esc.
"Except when it doesn't work, and you then ponder if it's worth re-rolling the toon again or not..."
Now you can shock Vette and not technically hurt her lol
Some of the dialogue changes if you pick an alien species depending on class, etc, Just small little things but just thought I'd put it out there
Yes, they're fun! They just don't have as huge as an affect as say in WoW with the starting areas.
like the zabrak being an invention of the rakata in their quest to get back in touch with the force
Sometimes it glitches. Like how Pureblood Sith are considered "human" in the Republic, even though they're anything but. :)
Being a Twilek Sith Warrior is weird. You get dialogue options treating Vette like crap for being a Twi'lek, and NPCs will do the same to her and not to you etc.

New to TOR with the Steam release just 2 days ago, and this series has been ENORMOUSLY helpful. Thanks so much for creating such an in-depth and useful guide series!
welcome to the game!!!
Hello Rista, just wanted to say you are Amazing! Just started playing SWTOR about 2 weeks ago. still on my first Character a "Scoundrel Sawbones". the Information on this video alone will be of great benefit to me. can't wait to learn more. Thank you for all your effort!
Excellent video! The SWTOR community is alive and thriving! Can't wait to finish exams to jump right back into this immersive world :))
It's not, it lost 60% of playerbase since 5.0 :)
And Destiny 2 lost 80% of it's player base within a month...
I haven't seen much of a community in my return to SWTOR. I tried to farm some social points by teaming up for heroics on Dromund Kaas only to find out I got TWO social points for doing four heroics with a partner. General chat told me to queue for flashpoints, which does get them. But people are so worried about rushing through them that there's no community building.
I'm curious as to where Ezechiel got his statistics.
Jacob TOR servers status.
Fantastic video. Just coming back to the game and I was lost...this was a great refresher!
+Beau Mains cheers welcome back!
Just coming back after a while away old account is unretrievable so starting fresh glad to see content is still being put on youtube for new players thanks i look forward to playing and using your videos as guides
Cheers and welcome back!
I'm jumping back in and love that these videos are out there.
welcome back to the game!
I haven't played this in almost 5 years. Decided to get back into it yesterday. Seems there is a lot of helpful info here, delivered systematically by a soothing voice rather that some erratic sugar hyped obnoxious teenager. Thanks. Subscribing.
Cheers!
I did the same, my wife finally agreed to play with me. But I'd not been on since 2016 so I have to relearn everything.
I get a few extra bonuses as I was a day 1 expensive preorder subscriber.
The videos have really helped as I can better teach my wife not having to learn on the fly.
Subbed too .
Just started playing swtor and i love it even if its pretty old. Amazon game und your videos are so incredible helpful! Nice quality and very good kontent. Thank you!!! Greetings from germany
Thanks Meik and greetings from California!
Never really knew what I was doing when I started out. Been playing for around three days now.
Using your tips to help me along my way. Thanks for these vids, even if it's 3 years old these tips have still helped.
Thanks so much for putting this together! Well produced and incredibly helpful.
I had just returned recently after a forced-hiatus due to my last PC crashing. These vids are a good refresher and reintroduction to the game.
Welcome back to the game!
Building my first ever PC next week and as a huge Star Wars fan, I really feel like I should try this out. Great video, I dropped a sub.
Cheers have fun!
I'm finally able to play SWTOR. Since it is my first MMO, I had so many questions and you have no idea how many you have answered. Thank you!
Played this game when it first came out back in 2011/2012. Recently started playing again to finish leftover character stories and I'm amazed how much has changed! Your videos have been very helpful so just wanted to say thanks - a lot!! Man, my lvl 55 chars have dated...
im a diehard player but i still love even these videos :D. you make everything so clear and easy.
The datacron sound reminds me of the Nirnroot sound from Elder Scrolls!
I just found this youtuber while looking for a game for me and my GF to play together shes a huge Bioware fan. So glad your still going on strong and making videos for old and new players alike.

Also heroics are daily, lol.
Heroics once per week? Don't you mean once per day? Lol
Yes. Derp. lol.
Hehe, it's fine
some heroics are weekly though, namely the starter planets, and an odd couple here and there from certain planets while the rest on the same planet are daily. also, bonus objectives are weekly only.
Swortista, is there a way to email you, I was a sub a few years ago. I subbed as soon as I saw the intro this is just what I needed to make my decision to jump back into the game but I have a questions about the game and what not...thanks Thomas
Recently got into this game I've started out as a bounty hunter and your videos have answered most of my questions before I even thought of them myself and so far im really enjoying this game
I started as an Imperial Agent myself :3 Love me some good ol Spies
Just started playing this week and I'm really enjoying it. I was so happy to see the PC is voiced. Also your xbox controller video is so helpful. I almost gave up playing the game because I couldn't get the keybinds right until I found your video.
glad to hear you got your controller working via the guide!
Wow thanks for the tip at 1:30. I didn't know I could get a free 7 day subscription. I am returning to the game after several months when I get my new pc in 10 days. My brother in law still plays this game so I'll be able to get the free 7 day subscription! Can't wait to get back into PvP!
Cheers! Especially nice part is if you use his code, and then decide to subscribe I think within 14 days (I'm not sure the specifics) your brother in law gets so cartel coins too.
you earned a new sub! came from your reddit post about the bounties...been playin for 5 years now happy to see others enjoy swtor also :) ill be watchin!

Finally, I thank you for making this videos. Your the only channel out there that actually explains things to me so I understand. Keep up your good work!
Cheers! Looking forward to eventually making part 2 :D
Great production value, all set to Star Wars music! Subbed!
The other way to play Heroics solo is to have a natural tank companion like Khem Val or Quizen Fez.
I haven’t played this game in a long time and I really want to get back into it because I love it. I started with a smuggler gunslinger (which has a really fun story) and I’m currently playing as an imperial agent (currently being last time I played).
Fantastic video and still relevant. New player after many years in Wow and loving it. Can't wait to see the other ones of yours ;)
Your swtor academy videos are so useful! Thanks!
I play since 2012, this game is awesome!
Decisions, decision getting reared up and play again. I already have a 50 level Jedi but haven't played him in forever. I forgot all the story line quests, which sucks kinda. I guess I have to start anew, to emerge myself in the story again. Wonder if anything changed in the story from the past three years. As always thanks for the videos, they always bring more to SWTOR.
+Max Leverage not much will have changed in the main storyline, but lots in the expansion. You might notice an improved intro scene though :)
I look forward to that.
This is a very well organized and concise video. I appreciate the work you put into this
Cheers, thank you!
I've always wanted to play this game, I'm just happy to see the community alive and well
The only thing I could add to any list is don't feel like you need to get married to your first character in any given class. You're going to make build and gearing mistakes, so don't do things like spending cartel coins and getting artifact unlocks until you know you're going to keep your character.
Great tip!
Assassin's Den yup, went through countless classes and specs before i settled with my nigh-immortal sith jugg, havent looked back since.
@@0rph33 ... how is that built because anytime I hear immortal I must know how it's made
I played this game when it first came out 7 years ago. At the time I had a potato computer and never really got to enjoy the graphics or multiplayer aspects of the game. Now that I have a better laptop, Im jumping back into the game tonight. I only ever played imperial agent and only made it to around level 40ish. Since I dont remember the story or even where I left off I am going to start a new character and start the journey all over again. I Will say I am a little intimidated though. I do not have any friends to play with and will be doing this solo. I hope that it is streamlined enough for me to figure it out and progress through the game. I have never played MMO's besides the little time in this game. I mainly want to experience the story modes and make some memories with this game before its taken down someday. I will never forget when I saw the trailers for this game 8 years ago. I was blown away and so excited! Anyways I just thought I would share my thoughts!
I played the crap out of KOTOR 1 and KOTOR 2. Sadly, I never got to play SWTOR. Why? I had a Mac lmao. But now, I will have a Windows sometime next week so I can finally continue the storyline. Would you want to play?
@@DapperSapper515 hey cool. I'm getting a new PC after four long years of SWTOR less Mac. I'm starting from scratch tho cause I lost the account

Well I've always been on and off with this game. So im not really new but never rly understood crafting and it's use, ive seen some tutorials from this channel. Not only was it great information, it was compact and gotta admit your voice is very nice to hear. Keep it up.
I've been planning on playing this game, the Star Wars the Old Republic Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to the Epic Conflict was too difficult for me to understand that I got lost easily, your videos have been helpful. I wish I knew about you when I first started playing - =) I would like to know about command coins and improving armour lvl 70 and above. There are no more mods for me
I never really played SWTOR seriously(just here and there, off and on subscriber) but this was a nice refresher course for me. Thanks! :D
Can I just say thank you so much! I just found your video a month ago and they helped out so much! I am glad i subscribed and watching your video convince me to do it. Enjoy the game so much! Keep up the amazing work! Looking forward to your next video.

im trying to get some cartel coins in the archivements but i can't seem to complete them im doing my class story missions idk what im doing wrong
Watched a few of your videos off and on for a while now, but i finally returned to the game after a break of almost 9 years after buying the CE in 2011 after the beta and not feeling the game (was a WOW evacuee) but after many years and finding the game is much more solo player friendly, i have come back.

xDDDDDD its fucking shite mate. Controls are fucking clunky, slow and broken animation fucking sucks. Quest are god damn boring, amd the game is just one big low end shit.
I don’t know if you can still call it a game because their really is no challenge or point to anything in it any more. You can’t really accomplish anything.
Quick question: is this video still relevant to SWTOR in late 2019? Like, has much of the information changed, etc.
Thanks for all the great work you do, I'm thinking about coming back from a very long break so trying to find out all that I can.

I have always wanted to play this game since 2012, but I never did 😪 I am afraid that I will never be able to 😭
@MazinSami ~ You can play, as a FREE-To-Play Player?
I’m here just to play the story with F2P because there’ll never be a KOTOR 3 thanks to EA and Disney. What books/comics should I read after I complete a class story?
Hey! There are some SWTOR books people really like - first one is called REVAN and is set inbetween KOTOR 2 and SWTOR I think. There's another really good one with Satele and Theron Shan.
Swtorista is correct - there are multiple books based on the game:
#1: REVAN: The story of Revan after his return to the Jedi Order and his quest to defeat the Emperor once and for all.
#2: FATAL ALLIANCE: The Hutt Cartel brings together a number of unlikely representatives from both the Republic and the Empire, all with their own personal goals, for an auction. After discovering that the item in question may be the key to more wealth than any of them could ever have dreamed of, all eight characters band together in order to steal it for themselves. But the search leads to not only the treasure, but to dark forces that may destroy the entire galaxy, forcing the Republic and the Empire to grudgingly form an alliance to fight, or be destroyed.
(All of the main characters are based on the 8 character classes from the game)
#3: DECEIVED: The story of Darth Malgus before, during, and after the events of the SWTOR cinematic trailer of the same name, as well as his fight against a rogue Jedi named Aryn Leneer, who is the padawan of the Jedi Master Malgus slew in the trailer.
#4: THREAT OF PEACE: A series of comics detailing the individual actions of both Jedi and Sith after the Treaty of Coruscant.
#5: ANNIHILATION: The story of Theron Shan, the son of Satele Shan and Jace Malcolm (both in the "Hope" cinematic trailer) and how he must team up with a Twi'lek smuggler called Teff'ith and the Kel Dor Jedi Master Gnost-Dural (the same Jedi who narrates the Galactic History segments on the official SWTOR website) to infiltrate the Empire and destroy the Ascendant Spear, an Imperial super-weapon battle cruiser that is commanded by the cybernetic Darth Karrid, the former apprentice of Darth Malgus.
There are also two books describing the game itself, rather than the stories of individuals in it, those being:
Star Wars the Old Republic Encyclopedia: The Definitive Guide to the Epic Conflict
And
The Art and Making of Star Wars: The Old Republic
If you managed to finish every class' story, then I'd suggest getting a one-time sub and do the expansions. They are very interesting in my opinion.
@@Aizec300 That's my plan. Just started yesterday and will sub for one month once i've completed the F2P class stories. Not interested in the MMO part of the game...just want a good Star Wars RPG.
KotOR 3 ever happened?
I found that logging in every day, even if just for 30 seconds, gave me some nice rewards. This is where I got some Jawa stuff that is talked about in the Companions guide. So THANKS! Swtorista.
Also, I try and get the weekly Conquest points. Under Log there is a Conquest option and this tells you what you need to rack up for some nice rewards. You'll probably just get the points from a pretty normal week. I'm a n00b [one toon level 38] and my mates get together once a week to do Heroics for a few hours and the rest of the week is maybe two or three hours and I am getting the points. This week I spent an hour exploring a planet and got the roll over point for Conquest and the rewards were nice.
I have been playing this game on and off for 2 years, and have only one max level character, and many sub-30 characters. And your video taught me that not only that I can change my combat spec, but how/where to do that. thanks.
I literally just bought a laptop so I can play this haha
I love ur accent
These videos are so helpful and nice to listen to, which is amazing.
Thank you for the video!
I just started playing today and you really jump started me into the experience.
Hey welcome to the game!
Hey there, newly created Sith Juggernaut here, is this games community still alive and thriving? Always wanted a Start Wars game that's alive and the ability to play as more than just a Jedi. Thankyou in advance! :)
Yes it is especially with the new movie and show and the fact that there's more to come I don't think it'll be dying soon.
Hey! Between the expansion and all the new Star wars stuff the game is doing well right now.
Glad to hear that. I bought subscriber access just to gain access to the DLC and the level cap, took that from your advice in one of your vids. Thankyou for your anwer too, HaiCy.
@@Connor.97 keep in mind many players are hanging on their alliance base so the fleet is less populated
Is this video still applicable in 2019? I'm a brand new player.
Yep! Only a very small amount of things have changed, mostly where they are in the interface.
Swtorista wow you’re still replying that’s crazy. I’ll be starting the game up soon so I’m just gonna watch some of your videos.

it's so nice to have a video on a game that doesn't have someone randumbly yelling at me, Or just overly crude or annoying or what have you. it's refreshing.
