What to do While Subscribed to SWTOR

- One of the great things about Star Wars: The Old Republic is that players can subscribe for one month, and then unsubscribe afterwards and retain access to the latest expansions and the ability to level to level 70. Here are SWTOR Subscriber Tips for players who will only be subscribing for a short time, what to do while subscribed, and how to easy the transition of going from Subscriber back to F2P when your sub expires!

Going from subscription to preferred isn't too bad of a transition if you prepare beforehand - here's some tips and tricks for players going from sub to F2P in SWTOR.
*** Create Characters
Subscribing unlocks many more races, with each class gaining new default races you can choose from. After a player unsubscribes, these new options become unavailable again unless the player unlocks them through other means.
Additional races that become unlocked for subscribers:
Chiss: Bounty Hunters and Imperial Agents
Miraluka: Jedi Knights and Jedi Consulars
Mirialan: All Republic classes
Rattataki: Bounty Hunters, Imperial Agents, and Sith Inquisitors
Sith Pureblood: Sith Warriors and Inquisitors
Twi’lek: Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Smuggler, and Sith Inquisitor

*** Buy Expensive Things
Free-to-Play players have a credit cap of 200,000 credits. Preferred players have a credit cap of 350,000 credits.
Players may want to look into buying:
Cosmetic Armor from the GTN
Cosmetic Mounts from the GTN
Character and Legacy Unlocks from the Legacy Panel
Strongholds (expensive strongholds like Tatooine, Yavin 4, Manaan)
Stronghold Room Unlocks
Decorations for your Stronghold
Inventory, Bank and Legacy Bank Slots
Account & Character Unlocks from the GTN (availability is limited)
Put Excess Credits in your Legacy Bank
*** Rush or Take Your Time
If you aren’t already max-level, you’ll have two options. Subscribed players gain the ability to earn gear at level 70 through the Galactic Command system, which becomes deactivated once you unsub. If you are very interested in gearing up, you can rush to level 70 and then spend your one month doing activities that gain you gear like operations or pvp, or by doing activities that gain you CXP like heroics, story chapters or flashpoints.
If you’re still a low level, you may also just want to take your time. The good news is that you will gain the ability to reach level 70 and play the expansions even after you unsubscribe. Some players misunderstand the way the expansion unlocks work - you do not have to stay subscribe to level up and play the stories, you only have to have subscribed at least once to unlock them in the first place.
*** Section X
Section X is one of the areas that become unavailable after you unsubscribe, so players at level 50 or higher will want to complete this area and the HK-51 quest started in this area before they unsub.
*** Operations
Operations, the 8-man level 50+ group content, are one of the few activities that you can not do once you unsub. If you want to try operations, make sure to get into a group before your subscription expires.
*** Redistribute Your Goods Before Unsubbing
Preferred players have a default limit of 12 active characters per server. If you have many characters, you won’t be able to play them all while unsubscribed, so make sure to redistribute any credits or unbound items to characters you’ll be playing actively.
*** After you Unsub
Once you unsubscribe, don’t forget after 90 days you can use a friend’s referral code for 7 days of free subscription. You can use these free 7 days to earn high level gear, buy expensive things with your escrowed credits, and take advantage of any of the other subscriber-only perks like being able to gear up though galactic command or join operations.

You only got to 69 once then

To make sure that you will be able to get all the races make a bunch of characters but don't level them up, I recommend that you get multiple different classes as well so you can enjoy different stories.
Why haven't they made any new playable races in so many years... The last one I can think of was either cathar or togrutta... I've been waiting for years for them to make a new and awesome playable race from the Star Wars universe... Just saying
Actually, the upcoming Onslaught expansion is gonna include a new race. Kit Fisto's race, Nautolan
Indeed why i wonder . maybe because we also have EA shareholders to satisfy ? id bet the dev team at this time for this game is just a bare bones crew . and all theese fat sub payments just go straight in to EA's greedy Maw
One thing I do when I'm preferred is to keep a watch out for sub rewards. They sometimes only require you to be a sub on a particular date to qualify and the sub via the 7day referral link counts. I recently got the armour and Chiss speeder by using the code a few days before the deadline date.
Good tip Trig!
im not going to lie i would love to take advantage of alot of these things but i dont even know how to do half these things :(
Although its understandable since I am on my first playthrough
this is me, and i can’t even experiment because my pc can’t run swtor
@@nakseyyy have you tried minimum graphics? I have a cheap HP laptop that runs the game really well at min, its a small sacrifice imo.
For new characters: Only if you are subscribed, you can learn Speeder Riding Rank 1 while below lvl 20 (at the class trainer).
I am taking my SWEET TIME with playing the main class storyline for my characters, but I haven't playing it for so long now.
Looking for HK parts is pain
Where were u five years ago when I first played this game blindly

Nice vid Swtorista! Will consider these tips next time I sub. I am very grateful for the Legacy Bank, very handy. You are my favorite SWTOR Influencer.
I'm just subscribed to support the devs. Good game!
same :)
lol the same dev's that won't give us twi'lek and togruta hoods.
id bet if the devs had theyr way they would have most of the game features unlocked for theyr players after the first subscription rather than trying to Milk them by restricting basic features like credits . the ability to trade . quality of life features . and the ability to gear up at the end game ...... all that money most of it anyhow goes to EA .They have a greed that can only bee described as a plague
I really like the game but some of these restrictions are weird. I can't even hide my helmet lol
I mean it's EA sooo...
some of the 'knights of the fallen empire cutscenes' froze on me, had to set my settings to low. And i have a decent pc
That can happen, it's a big and old game so glitches are prone
this video was exactly what i was looking for....i would like to say as a current player that the lowest subscribe time is now 60 days instead of one month
Cheers!
On Steam you can subscribe for one month at a time.
For the credit cap, you can bypass it using the cartel coins gained with the security key app on phone
Good tip, thanks silver!
Pls elaborate
@@sayednaser7739 explain please?
@@sayednaser7739 If you get the security key app on the phone for SWTOR (like a second password that changes each time) you get 100 CC each month.

Is that an exploit or working as intended?
shame there is no trandoshan race to choose to play as :(
Norbiee I wouldn’t leave the game if that was an option. Same goes for Kaleesh(?), the race of General Grievous
This isn't Star Wars Galaxies lol
Yes. And all Trandoshans are ranked so you can see if your adventures please the Scorekeeper or not.
@@starkillermatt91 And that really sucks. Fuck whoever said that running two MMOs at once was bad.
Neither Trandoshan nor Kaleesh would sound particularly good with the existing character voices.
They should remove the cxp restriction for preferred, as things are now preferred players cant get xp or spend credits and if they already did all the content there is no reason to grind
I was at the NYC launch for this game, met the Bioware founders. I just haven't played this game in a few years, more so after they honestly made the companions freaking OP.
They definitely are OP. If you did ever return, check out the Master Mode KOTFE/KOTET chapters... they don't care about OP companions haha.
For sure I'll get at least one month, but it's possible I'll maintain a subscription to support the game and keep the full benefits unless I can't afford it one month.
Wow, Swtorista, you must have some sort of Force precognition, because I just got a 30-day subscription (first time I've subscribed!) that I am not planning to renew. I thought your video was very informative and helpful--thank you very much! I just have one question: So Section X allows you to gain access to a new companion. Will I have to fully complete the missions needed to get the companion while I am a subscriber, or will I just be able to start the mission as a subscriber and finish it later when I am only preferred? Additionally, is the companion (once unlocked) account/server wide, or do I have to get the companion for every character that I want him on?
Thanks again!
Cheers great timing!
I haven't done it recently, so my memory is a bit hazy. dulfy.net/2012/10/11/swtor-patch-1-5the-hunt-for-hk-51companion-droid/ and this video guide shows you need to find all the parts and return to Section X ua-cam.com/video/LEGL79VfO7I/v-deo.html and I believe you pick up HK-51 on Section X itself on the Fatality crashed ship. If you aren't subbed you won't be able to get back to Sec X I believe. Once you complete the quest line on any character, you can get a legacy unlock for any character for 1,000,000 credits.
So i still don't understand the whole refferal code thing?
1: Does it do anything else than 7 days free subscription?
2: What does the guy with the code you click get? / Why is everyone trying to promote their code?
3: I am currently a F2P and i'm wondering if a F2P can get those sweet 7 days of subscription?
4: If it really is that good to have a refferal code, how do you get one?
5: Is there a differnece on peoples refferal codes? / Can they offer different stuff?
That's pretty much it..
Haue 1- yeah you get a couple of extras aswell, little convenience items and that
2-the person who’s link you click gets cartel coins
3- yeah, you can
4- yeah, it’s worth it- everyone gets a their own referral code, you check it on the SWTOR page
5- nah
Great tips.
I bought Account Unlock Inventory, to full, back in the day on the gtn, best investment I ever made. Not having to blow through credits for no reason on any character, for inventory, ever again. Not sure what the prices are now and if it's still worth it (or worth it on cartel), but it's really nice to have.
I love your detailed video description. Incredibly handy and far superior to most UA-cam videos.
Thanks!
It's a shame that you can't buy legacy and stronghold room unlocks with credits you have in your legacy bank. My friend (f2p with credit cap) has 600k credits in his legacy back but can't spend it. A real shame...
Wora wtf you call it a shame? Keep in mind that f2p was involved to test the game and not to "play it" although you can do every class story as f2p which is very very fair
Well, ask yourself the question why that is. Clearly BioWare wants to push people into subbing or spending money (escrow) where they can. In the end I can't blame a company for wanting to make money but there's a lot about the how where BioWare could do a lot better.
I think how it is it's good. You're not buying what is, but future. Do you want swtor to stop exist? Do you want to just live knowing that old is dying while Diney is creating new ugly mutants?
I played this game from the beta. I was there when it went live with early access. I was there when about 80% of the players left in less than 6 months after release. I was there for the server merges in that year as well (two rounds there were) and the introduction of F2P and the cartel market.
I wasn't happy about F2P and the CM but I knew that the game was almost dead and they had to do something to give the game a future. So I bought cartel packs to support a brighter future for SWTOR.
Then RotHC came out and the abandoned the class stories. We just got a planetary story arc for each faction.
Then SoR came out and reduced everything to one story. Also this expansion was smaller than the previous one.
Then KoTFE came out. A single story again but no new group content. They just made everything easier and bumped existing group content to max level. Instead of new content we got the same content that we already beat many times.
Then KoTET came out and we got yet a smaller expansion and they did the same trick with endgame and added a terrible endgame reward system that drove many people away. This ultimately led to another round of server merges.
Now I've stopped playing the game. Now I spent easily 150 bucks per month on this game for quite some time and what I got in return was smaller and smaller expansions, rehashed content and bad progression systems.
So please, don't give me this bs about paying for the future. They put that money in EA's pockets and they'll do the minimum they can get away with. This game has no future. It's just going to be kept alive for those who are still willing to throw their money at it. This game isn't even a shadow of what it used to be.
I don't need it die, but it's fine by me if it does. I'd rather have no SWTOR than what it is today myself...but I don't mind if other people want to keep it alive. Good luck with it. I can't wait to see how disappointing 6.0 will be.
Hristos of Bosnia This is how haters see it. Fans of star wars, those with knowledge of economy, wow players.. For those it's normal. Look at wow and how it works there. Swtor has much better f2p

Man this game is aggressive with what non-subscribed players get.... no hide helmet, no friggin BANK, XP gain reduction... it's wild.
yeah well its ea after all
It has good sides (like getting access to all content with a single subscription and the ability to use that subscription to get a huge advantage and almost feel like a paying player), but it has a lot of bad sides too. As someone who had played the game before it went F2P, I was kind of disgusted at the restrictions of races that I could previously create character as. I wasn't aware of it so when I deleted an old character to restart the story, I found myself without way to create it.
F2P also used to heavily restrict action bars (to two I think which was unplayable) but they walked back on that one cause it was outrageous.
Swtorista does this still apply in 2024, please please please update this
Such a mindboggling amount of hoop jumping (your explanations were spot on, and well structured, my gripe is with the messy SWTOR business model) Also, maybe it was because of when I unsubbed initially (between the Hutt Cartel expack and the next one...shadow of Revan?) but I never got back around 4M credits that went into escrow. That, and then losing names due to numerous server merges, just kinda sealed the deal for me on ever coming back to SWTOR.
I heard... "your subscription time before going pervert" @0:35 .. and I was like... whaaa???.. then I remembered that she was talking about "preferred".. my brain betrayed me
Wow you have $732 million?? If you could only translate that to US$ :)
I wonder if I unsub Premium do I keep all empty charater slots after premium time has ended?
Do i have to manually unsubscribe or does it ends if i don't renew it or something?
Amass cartel coins for them sick outfits to then style one people in game and RP
Unlock a legacy warehouse on both side, this way, you can stock all your credits for when you're unsubscribed, your whole pile of cash will be available on the account. Only the money which is in your bag is limited.
Sadly Referrals don't work anymore..thks EA :(
I don't think there should be a subscription for this game anymore in my opinion :p
They gotta make consistent money some how :) I think Cartel Market makes them quite a bit, but I would be it has lots of spikes and dips.
Swtorista fair enough but like atleast make the price a bit cheap so more ppl can actually afford to play with subscription xd
it's about what? 12$ a month? for a $/hour rate, it's not that expensive tbh, and the fact that you can play pretty much most content after subbing once is a plus.
Many AAA games are priced at 60$ to 80$ and they don't give you even 40 hours worth of gameplay.
Darth Calanil fair enough :/

Hey swtorista I sen this video and tried to subscribe but keep getting errors are the severs having problems?????
No idea sorry dude. I don't think the servers are having issues. Try googling the exact error words it gave you.
So a preferred player is a free to play player with benefits ...and all I gotta do is pay for one month and then let it expire ...ok I’m listening
Yup, pretty much, if all you want to do is play the story :) Make sure to not "let it expire" but instead actively cancel it afterwards if you only want to sub for a month.
Swtorista ok so I have to turn the subscription off on the last day or ?
You can turn it off a few days after it "clears" in your bank/credit card. And you will keep all the days you paid for :)
I'll subscribe again. Someday. Maybe. I don't know..
But I always enjoy your video!
Credit Cap as non subscriber is ok but 350k isn't enough for anything in the endgame. Especially today where the prices in the GTN are much higher than 2 years ago. A single modification for a weapon or armor piece costs a few million nowdays. Equipping is impossible when you have not subscribed.
Guess what they are upping it to one million in July!
Prefered status. Isn't the limit 14 toons per server? I have 6/14 on Star forge server...
You might have more from outlander tokens or free promos along the way.
What if you just buy the game and it’s expansions, can you get all the other races if you do that??? Cuz that’s what I’ve been thinking of doing
Nope! You get access to more races but not all even if you sub.

The thing that always confused me is how the active characters work. Unactive characters can't be used, so what is the point of having them unless you sub again? How do characters become deactivated? Bioware why you do this
From what I remember when I went preferred. I had a bunch of characters while subbed. I unsubbed. All my characters became "deactivated" - I then got to pick which ones I wanted to play based on the number of slots I had (which is now roughly 12). I activated one, then activated another a different day, etc, and then when I ran out of slots I couldn't play the ones that were deactivated until I resubbed. The why is easy - because they want to you to resub :P
@@Swtorista or buy new character slots or get them from promotions. I left the game for two years and as a preeferred I have 24 character slots and only 14 characters. lol not really sure how I did that
Overall as a relatively new player to SWTOR, the only issue I really see with their business model is the credit cap. It's mind-boggling to me how FTP and Preferred players can only hold a million credits, it only takes a quick glance at the GTN right now and you can see that is way too low.
They've actually upped it! It used to be 250k.

This looks like something that might want to be updated with the new Sith expansion dropping in Dec.
So when you are subscribed and then your subscription runs out would your level 60 character revert to level 50 or do the levels stay the same? Can you still level up being a preferred player past level 50?
Nope your character's level would not revert. You keep the ability to get to max level and you keep access to the stories on any current or new characters :)
Just a small question, if I unsubscribe the month after can I still lvl up my characters to 70? Or will they get stuck on 50? Also if I have like lets say 61 lvl character will I be able to get them to 70 as preffered player?
Zeen The Guy with No Profile Picture Yea you will be able to level to 70.
Just wanted to triple confirm, yes, you retain the ability to get to level 70 on any or all characters, and the expansion stories.
this game has some of the most restrictive f2p things i have ever seen. can only obtain loot from flashpoints x amount of times, can only use xx loot. thats why i can never bother to get back into this game. i would still be playing if it wasnt f2p.

True thats just too much money for a game no matter which its even ok to pay 50€ for such a game but not subscribing 13€ every month
Is it still true that the races that become unlocked when you're subscribed get locked again when you become preferred? I was hoping I wouldn't have to worry about being unable to play as those races same as how subscribing for one month unlocks the already released expansions for good?
Yes, they get locked, BUT any characters you make during your subscription you can continue playing!

I wouldn't worry about subscribing too much until level 50+. All expansions are locked behind subscribing for one month. The quest I mentioned that can only be done while subbed happens around level 50, you can see it in the order here: www.reddit.com/r/swtor/wiki/story "Section X (Belsavis)"
Swtorista Alright, thank you.
Hello my dear, glad to see you uploaded again, I always enjoy watching your videos.
How do I unlocked for collections? zlike it says locked in collections.
If it's a cool armor or mount or something like that, once you use the item (wear it, use it, equip it, etc) it will become unlocked in collections for that character. You then have the option to pay cartel coins to unlock it for all characters in collections. To get to collections go in your inventory and there is a button for it.
Mk thanks it really helps, I just bought the amazon pack and I got 3K cartel coins (from the ones i had before and the new ones), so y'know i'm trying to use them wisely. Thanks.
So two things i want to sub for one month so should i make one of each species so i have them after i sub and they dont delete it or lock you out of that character do they? and two should i wait till December to sub since i get all the DLC forever and the new one is coming out right?
Absolutely you should make them during your month of sub. Here's the list if you need it: swtorista.com/articles/what-to-do-during-one-month-of-subscription-in-swtor/
We don't know how subscribing willl work for the new one yet, so I'd say sub now so you can start playing the previous expansions.
@@Swtorista ok cool thank you I was just afraid they lock out the character after I unsubscribed and I didn't know about the personal bank that I keep that when unsubscribing is it a free peice you get just like the legacy bank in the stronghold?
I ALWAYS recommed to anyone who cant stay subscribed the following:
if u just want to have THE character (only want to play 1 story) - subscribe right away. Ull level up soo fast and adquire so many bonuses that your month playing will be amazing. And, if you ever decide to play any other story, u are already preferr player.
If u want to get the BEST MAX of the SWTOR experience - subscribe after playing all the classes. U will get a huge amount of new content so it will fell like a whole new game.
I subscribed for the first time when LoS got released, then a great friend of mine gave me a 2month subs gift.
Sorry for the bad English (en español podrìa haberlo parafraseado mejor)
lol this vid is almost 2 years old... still very useful since not much has changed (I hope at least)
and if there's still people answering comments: I know subs have access to stuff such as artifact equipment that'd you'd normally buy with cartel coins, when my subscription ends do I get to keep all of those too?
You lose artifact authorization when you unsub. But you can keep any gear you're already wearing
how to unlock Korriban Temple Stronghold
There is no Korriban stronghold sorry. If you go to the crafting and supplies section of the fleet look for a hologram man and it will help you get your first stronghold
Thank you for your help how to unlock dromund kaas stronghold
Is there any new things that we should know if we were to end our subscription? I just bought the 3 months reoccurring one and relog onto my account. Saw that I had like 6 million credits still on my character and I haven't played for over 3 years.
Nope, everything is the same, good luck going preferred! :D
Yay been waiting for a vid like this
i paid for both recurring and subscription at the same time. do you know if they are charged one after the other or at the same time?
I'm not sure sorry, but they will stack up (you didn't waste money)
@@Swtorista thanks for that. im a new player. coming from ESO :)
@@MrHarindrakvidya so you bought a 60 day non recurring and a 30 day recurring ? just trying to understand.
Can we get all the dlcs through the referral code?
Thanks for the video. I'm preferred until Friday when I get my check, so I take it I'd have to sub in order to send credits or is there an unlock you can buy? I stacked cartel coins and have around 5k atm. Btw, what armor is your vanguard wearing? The blue / white one, think I've seen it before but unsure as it looks cool :) *edit* I saw the part about the legacy storage, my bad.
Perfect video for you! That armor is similar to this one: torf.mmo-fashion.com/vandinite-asylum-pub/
becasue I was here on launch, and open beta. Im a prefered player. I had no idea about this coming back. Thanks for the videos
Cheers! :)
