As a white kid from Wisconsin, I remember seeing my first low rider and falling in love. I later learned how rooted it is to Chicano culture, and how prideful they are of that. I got to go to my first low rider meet last year out in Denver, and I felt like a kid in a candy shop. You'll never meet a friendlier group of people, and that's coming from someone who apologizes for apologizing. Good people who know how to have good fun.

There is some money involved, but there is a lot of blood, sweat and tears--- sweat equity. Building a lowrider usually brings friends and family who do different parts of the car--chassis, body work, paint, electrics, sounds/hydraulics -- they work until it's done. Just like a vision board -- starts off with a theme (or themes) where the owner or family or friends, the artwork, paint, lights and interior are formed to express a very passionate idea or memories of different events and/or racial pride. Completed, it's like a rolling statement on wheels, all there and in your face--take it or leave. It'll about love and passion within a lifestyle. Inseparable.

this made me emotional and its hard to pin down why. My wife and family is Mexican and has always been the most accepting and family oriented people I've ever met. They took me in and made me apart of their family from day one no questions asked even when my family had cast me out. If you are open to other peoples culture and willing to step out of your comfort zone its amazing what you will find.

Sorry if it confuses you, but I'm from LA, grew up in Seattle, half Spaniard, half Northern Germanic, some Native, and currently live in the Midwest. I've got Norse ink on one arm, and my Abuela as a flamenco on the other. Also gay and a cop. If that confuses you that's your problem, not ours. Wow what an incredible opportunity to experience the lowrider culture. I always liked the style of low riding that i saw about a doz parked in a dark parking lot so I walked over and asked if i could checkout their cars and they were so friendly and said i could.

I found the same kind of community in the car audio scene for subwoofers, there so much you can do from little stuff to full DONK builds. The people are amazing and its a mad science so it really brings the community together. If your in Texas I know Dallas has one of the biggest DONK car scenes around and might be work tracking down.

Great video I really can tell you had a very nice time exploring the lowrider culture. I live in Dallas Texas and have been here for 6 or 7 years now. I've always liked lowriders since I was a little boy, I think I will look into finding out about the Dallas lowrider club and make me some new friends out here thanks to you and your video. 👍🏾

I've got a lot of lowriders working in my Vegas resort kitchen. My passion is cooking. But there's is their car's.
It's a lot of fun being the 50yo white guy hanging out with them. They all look so different outside of our chef's uniforms.

I loved this video. Even though I don't know anything about lowriders, I admire the fact that this is more than someone's hobby, it's a lifestyle. Also, it's sad that Mexicans don't consider the Chicanos as Mexican, when have me a black person considering them as Mexican.

Its definitely not my thing with the colors or pin striping.. but they are still amazing. The amount and quality of work put in to each of those vehicles transcends a job. It's an art, a lifestyle, and truly a love made with their hands and hearts. My hats are off to you folks for sure.

I remember cruising Whittler Blvd around the same year. (1978-79’). It was WONDERFUL. There was hardly any hostility. (You always get a ‘drunk fool’ from somewhere.). But, It was mostly chill.

I didn't hear any mention of the amount of money and love put into these fine rides.
And every car, especially 1 with juice should have a fire extinguisher or 2 in it
