Since they haven't yet been humiliated like ussr and Germany so no. Then there are some nutjobs like pakistan, japan and turkey. Who despite being defeated claims they committed nothing wrong. Atleast Japan's action are positive nowdays, hope they own their past too. Unlike pakistan and turkey who behind doors take pride in their inhumane behaviour upon others.

True, they should also showcase Stalin's atrocities, BUT, Britain should also have the courage to build a museum to showcase it's own past colonial atrocities.

The British didn't kill between 40 and 62 million people, they killed and enslaved a lot, but that gent on the screen hasn't killed a single person. Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Pol Pot were all sadists and psychopaths. They are all personally responsible for the deaths of millions! The number of people they killed is so large, it's practically impossible to comprehend. Stalin killed between two and three times the entire population of Australia (my home). Mao was the worst, slaughtering between 45 and 75 million. And the most depressing part, is that in Russia and China, Stalin (Lenin too) and Mao are still respected! History will repeat itself, if we fail to learn from our mistakes...

    • @skullsaintdead

My point is, to blame an ordinary Russian for Stalin's actions is ridiculous, as is blaming an English actor for the crimes committed by the British Empire/Government of decades and centuries past.

Skulls Ain't Dead those are modern dictators not empires. British Empire was up there, but id say Spanish Empire tops the cruelity list. The french are there next to the spanish. the british were very cruel like many empires but not sadistic imo. cant say the same about spaniards in the american continent

Yeah, but the show was about Stalin, hence the reference. Perhaps not, but I doubt some Indians would agree. I can't remember the exact figure, but before the English came to India, it contributed something like 25% of the worlds economy, when they left, it had about 4% or something. The stat was pretty incredible, though I generally agree, the Spanish seemed to be especially cruel.

If Hugh Bonneville would've talked to local Georgians, he would've learned that many Georgians don't like Stalin and don't like that museum. The Georgians who protest against Putin and the Georgians who declare their admiration for Putin are two distinct groups with very little overlap. There are conflicting views within Georgian society, and the BBC made no effort to learn about this.

GEORGIAN : Just like you have no courage to judge Winston churchill (killing millions of people in bengal in colonial India etc) and Harry Truman ( dropping atomic bombs when the Japan was alone on the verge of defeat )
ME : If that was the case why did UK and USA joined forces with USSR, you cannot categorically come to a conclusion that this is right and this is wrong UK still has monarchy who has blood in their hands over their course of history which you don't atone ,

Still in 1992, the British erected a monument to the killer "Bomber Harris" who, in association with the criminal Churchill, razed Germany to the ground - completely unnecessarily from a military point of view - with countless civilian victims and the destruction of centuries-old buildings and works of art. (Sir Arthur Harris (1892-1984) | Statue by Faith Winter, 1992)

“Gori’s favourite son”? And the statement at the end? Has BBC completely abandoned any and all forms of actual research or journalism and turned to baseless slander? I’m Georgian and I personally had no idea that Stalin was born in Gori and that there was even a museum. The museum is only acknowledging Stalin’s birthplace and his efforts to defeat the nazis. That, however does not mean that anyone, especially us Georgians have forgotten the atrocities he committed. Georgia suffered under the soviet union and under his rule, he isn’t idolized and many people hate to be associated with him, much like germans nowadays with hitler. Expected better from BBC
