- Hugh Bonneville and Jessica Hynes find a decent road as they travel to Stalin's birthplace, but the museum dedicated to the man leaves a sour taste in Hugh's mouth.

Can Britain and America look at their own histories objectively and truthfully?
Since they haven't yet been humiliated like ussr and Germany so no. Then there are some nutjobs like pakistan, japan and turkey. Who despite being defeated claims they committed nothing wrong. Atleast Japan's action are positive nowdays, hope they own their past too. Unlike pakistan and turkey who behind doors take pride in their inhumane behaviour upon others.
"I've broken Stalin's house."
his parents told young stalin that there is a an austrian boy who wants to be an even badder guy but they think stalin can be the worst
True, they should also showcase Stalin's atrocities, BUT, Britain should also have the courage to build a museum to showcase it's own past colonial atrocities.
Lmao
So said the hypocrite.
Look at the atrocities of your own country you coward...
🤣
What hypocrites the Brits!!
says he who comes from the most cruel colonial empire...
Mammon Cerberus which fell before he was born and which he had nothing to do with... Most Brits frown upon what the empire did, but there are always a few arses. Think before you type
The British didn't kill between 40 and 62 million people, they killed and enslaved a lot, but that gent on the screen hasn't killed a single person. Stalin, Hitler, Mao and Pol Pot were all sadists and psychopaths. They are all personally responsible for the deaths of millions! The number of people they killed is so large, it's practically impossible to comprehend. Stalin killed between two and three times the entire population of Australia (my home). Mao was the worst, slaughtering between 45 and 75 million. And the most depressing part, is that in Russia and China, Stalin (Lenin too) and Mao are still respected! History will repeat itself, if we fail to learn from our mistakes...
My point is, to blame an ordinary Russian for Stalin's actions is ridiculous, as is blaming an English actor for the crimes committed by the British Empire/Government of decades and centuries past.
Skulls Ain't Dead those are modern dictators not empires. British Empire was up there, but id say Spanish Empire tops the cruelity list. The french are there next to the spanish. the british were very cruel like many empires but not sadistic imo. cant say the same about spaniards in the american continent
Yeah, but the show was about Stalin, hence the reference. Perhaps not, but I doubt some Indians would agree. I can't remember the exact figure, but before the English came to India, it contributed something like 25% of the worlds economy, when they left, it had about 4% or something. The stat was pretty incredible, though I generally agree, the Spanish seemed to be especially cruel.
Before I heard Georgia I heard JOSEPH STALIN
They've done a lot of work on the museum since this was filmed. I went there in the summer and it was lovely!
If Hugh Bonneville would've talked to local Georgians, he would've learned that many Georgians don't like Stalin and don't like that museum. The Georgians who protest against Putin and the Georgians who declare their admiration for Putin are two distinct groups with very little overlap. There are conflicting views within Georgian society, and the BBC made no effort to learn about this.
Liberal got spooked by Stalin lel
The British people have no right to criticize the people of gori.😏the hypocrisy on the their journalism is obvious.
BBC, how about showing Britain's atrocities??????
actually the main reason why that museum is still in the city Gori because since the independence from soviet union, that museum was basically the only tourist attraction of the city (still is) and it was only way of income for many people of that city. that doesn't mean that in Georgia he is liked or loved, we don't like him either.
fake information!!! in Georgia Gori, 80% people love stalin, in every houses there are photo of Stalin! Stalin is Legend From Georgia!!! Stalin won biggest war in history and he was Georgian man... 20% people (liberalism ideology) hate Stalin... but 80% is grateful what Stalin did ;) so bro don't write fake information and don't write information that u don't know ;)

ENGLISH MAN ALONG WITH AMERICAN : How can u expect the world to support your just struggle against if you have no courage to judge stalin and his crimes against humanity
GEORGIAN : Just like you have no courage to judge Winston churchill (killing millions of people in bengal in colonial India etc) and Harry Truman ( dropping atomic bombs when the Japan was alone on the verge of defeat )
ME : If that was the case why did UK and USA joined forces with USSR, you cannot categorically come to a conclusion that this is right and this is wrong UK still has monarchy who has blood in their hands over their course of history which you don't atone ,
So aptly put!!
Still in 1992, the British erected a monument to the killer "Bomber Harris" who, in association with the criminal Churchill, razed Germany to the ground - completely unnecessarily from a military point of view - with countless civilian victims and the destruction of centuries-old buildings and works of art. (Sir Arthur Harris (1892-1984) | Statue by Faith Winter, 1992)
They deserved it

@Mugen Infinite I mean I like it I'm a georgian lol
What was the point of that statement in the end? Modern Georgia does not idolize Stalin, i hope not. Either way, no one can be blamed for the crimes other than the man himself
I don't get why he did'not help georgia to leave soviet union? Maybe he was sceard of someone maybe there was Secret human behind everything and he was controlling evrything
He was a cycopath and paranoid no one besides the commies idolize him
thanks to that Stalin Georgia was conquered by Red army (and killed all the intellectuals), so no, only traitors (Russia's agents) or brainless old people like Stalin in Georgia.
2:50 that's bloody rich coming from an american, lets not forget that the US have invaded over 50 foreign goverments since 1945

Vinnie J. hey dude stalin isnt russian hes georgian
D7O no he’s technically not, My family is Russian and some of my relatives where born in Georgia... Georgia was part of the ussr and both countries still speak Russian. So he is Georgian, but they spoke and wrote in Russian

Lemonfridge so if you are American and speak English you are English? fu#ked up logic lol
@The Busy Pangolin Stalin was a great man)) I speak Russian Georgian and English)) where are you from?
“Gori’s favourite son”? And the statement at the end? Has BBC completely abandoned any and all forms of actual research or journalism and turned to baseless slander? I’m Georgian and I personally had no idea that Stalin was born in Gori and that there was even a museum. The museum is only acknowledging Stalin’s birthplace and his efforts to defeat the nazis. That, however does not mean that anyone, especially us Georgians have forgotten the atrocities he committed. Georgia suffered under the soviet union and under his rule, he isn’t idolized and many people hate to be associated with him, much like germans nowadays with hitler. Expected better from BBC
So, i guess you like lying on your bed and doing mostly nothing?
why is everyone's country suffered the worst under soviet "oppression"? is this trendy nowadays?
Stalin was evil, Churchill wasn’t angel though,
Imagine little Stalin sitting there one quiet morning, and he said "When I grow up I want to be the nastiest piece of work the world has ever seen" and the parents would say "There's a little boy in Austria and he wants to be the nastiest, but son we believe you can be even nastier" and then he was!
Its literally the best line ever
Copycat. You watched Grand Tour with Jeremy Clarkson who said this.

The fact that this museum appears run-down, in a state of dis-repair is quite appropriate......whether it will stay un-attended or maintained....or God forbid restored......time & events will tell.
Was just there last week, it's not in a state of disrepair. Actually looks quite nice compared to what is shown in this video.
"Disrepair" is one word, which is worth noting for future use.
Liars!!!!
Maria Frade you know it feel weird when you said liars for no reason
3:07 that couple from New York will be sent to the gulag!
I want to know about his crimes against humanity, but if there are any serious stories. It seems they are under propaganda.
Its a Russian propaganda who still mad GAZILLIONS of Russians supposedly dies under him instead of the traditional white Russians
He wasn't a dictator. He didn't had absolute power. Soviet union was authoritarian oligarchy. Blaming Stalin only is purely dumb. There were many high ranking officer's who were responsible for the death of many many people.
