I had this disease, and my own primary care doctor refused to diagnose it, because he said that I was "too young" to have the disease! My symptoms were very evident. I had to seek medical help from someone else, and boom, my diagnosis was made and I had to undergo surgery. The surgeon told me that I also had hypothyroidism due to the adenoma pushing on my thyroid! I had all the classic symptoms of that disease as well. The minute I awoke from the procedure, my levels were all normal again. I had been ill for years and was headed towards damage to my kidneys, heart, bones. I've undergone PTH testing for years since and it's been normal.
Alcyone I’m suffering with this disease, doctor said I have the secondary she put me on Vit d and asked me to increase my calcium intake but still experiencing bad symptoms like frequent urination, palpitations with the arrhythmia sometimes, depression and loss of appetite, I told my doctor may be I have the primary and need to be removed she said no ,
@@Layla03778 if you have this disease, it will NOT go away by itself nor with vit D and calcium. You must see a specialist (endocrinologist) and have your levels tested, Vit D, D-125, and PTH to determine how far along you are with this disease. If your PTH is high then you will require a sestimibi scan of your parathyroid. There are 4 nodes there. It is possible one or more than one will "light up" with the scan, in which case, you WILL require removal of the adenoma or adenomas. Once removed, you must go for PTH level testing, Vit D and Vit D-125, etc to ensure your disease doesn't return, which it can.
Alcyone I am seeing by the endocrinologist, my D,125 was high, Vit D low, PTH high, Calcium Normal , she said since my Calcium level is normal I have secondary not primary she put me on 1000 Vit D and increase my intake of calcium but still I feel awful sick wit many symptoms like frequent urination, loss of appetite with weight loss and depression I cry for no reason mostly last four days, last month I was admitted to the ER for atrial fibrillation my heart was beating extremely fast they put me on Diltiazem .my body is telling me that all these symptoms are caused by the hyper parathyroid just hard to convince the doctor. Wow I've learned so much in this short video. I was diagnosed with secondary hyperpara as a result of a complete TT removal. Endo has struggled to balance me out and Drs. struggle to balance both my hypo thyroid state as a result of the TT and hyper para as a 2ndary state. Hypercalcemia really affected my teeth and made my bone density weak and brittle yet many dentist don't familiarize themselves with treatment towards thyroid disorders in patients
Thanks alot very informative , very helpful . Your videos about hyperthyroidism and hyperparathyroidism were the most helpful for me to understand what endocrinology doctors are trying to tell me, but until now they aren't sure what's the reason of my low TSH level and nodules .
Thanks, helps me understand why my endo is giving me mega doses of vitamin D even though my levels of D are not low. PTH is gradually coming down a bit. Thanks also for your calm voice with no bells and whistles.
Lay man’s terms, are fantastic. Much better for people who need information to compare to their own similarities. Going to the doctor won’t be as scary because of this video, you’ve got rid of the “ what Ifs “.
Hello Everybody,, i recently have my blood tests done i which vitamin D came as only 4 ng/ml (severe deficiency) but calcium came as 10.40 units (normal range is upto 10.10)... is this can be because of hyperparathyroidism or due to low vit D ?
@@ashouraitakhoshaba2360 Doctor said Its normal in case of youngsters. Also we have to see the level of albumin to know corrected Calcium Levels. Google search 'Corrected Calcium Levels". Actually my albumin level was high, which made my corrected calcium levels under range.
Hi, I recently have diagnose of low vitamin D 7.9, high calcium 10.7 and normal PTH 31, my albumin is also normal, my bp is 150/100 I have also issue with stomach and insomnia, and other issue plz share some details here
Could you add an explanation of NormoCalcaemic Primary Hyperparathyroidism? There are some recently published NICE guidelines on NCPHPT. Lack of knowledge of this condition is causing much distress to the people with it, especially as the GPs and Endocrinologists that have caught up are few and far between.
I was sadly diagnosed with this the sad part is that before I could go to the specialist I lost my health care and I have been noticing my health go down... I have been struggling really bad. Even worse people make fun of me for the weight I gained and they label me as lazy because I am struggling to even move around because of all the bone pain I have and sometimes I feel like I am going to pass out from pushing myself to be productive.
I had this at 11 years old & had to have one (or two?) of my parathyroid removed. Took forever to diagnose, and the surgeon had never heard of someone my age with it!
In patients with chronic kidney disease, oral phosphate binders (calcium salts, sevelamer hydrochloride, and lanthanum carbonate) and restrict dietary phosphate intake is recommended to prevent 2° hyperparathyroidism. Cinacalcet is a calcimimetic that acts to lower serum PTH levels and is approved for use in hyperparathyroidism caused by renal failure or in patients who cannot undergo surgery.
Secondary hyperparathyroidism (HPT) caused by chronic kidney disease (CKD) not severe enough to warrant transplant, can be managed with calcitriol (the active form of Vitamin D). Start low and go slow, 0.25 mcg twice a week. Too high of a dose over time can cause adynamic bone disease, with the bone becoming resistant to PTH.
Will you talk about what happens from 20 years of not being taken seriously. So my body has high Ca for 20 yrs. What are long term concerns for long term Ca+2. Drs just took it out and I am researching on recovery and long term healing done damage done.
Thank you for the explanation. I would like to know about hypoparathyroidism. If a patient undergo thyroid surgery and the parathryoid is damaged, will it cause the low absorbtion of calcium in the renal? Thank you.
I did a blood test to find out why I have low bone density for my age (26) and it turns out my parathyroid hormone levels are high. Vitamin D is good. I do believe hyperparathyroidism has been the reason for my bone loss, constipation, and lack of concentration/slight memory loss. Is surgery the solution for this one? The endocrinologist told me to consume more calcium and get another blood test to find testosterone levels (free and total).
I was diagnosed with hyperparathyroidism and was referred to a surgeon who says because he can’t find a tumor on my gland through ultrasound (something was found in a nuclear medicine scan on the right glands), and my labs are borderline, he will not perform the surgery. So I feel awful and have to do monthly blood draws and 24-hour urine collections forever now???
Thanks Hassan! I plan on uploading many more, just in the middle of writing the paediatrics book at the moment and it is taking all my time. keep an eye out!
