- 去る３月に新曲「Knappsack」をリリースしたスティーヴ・ヴァイ。ヤング・ギター2021年６月号では同曲にまつわる諸々について聞いた最新インタビューを掲載しているが、ここではその一部を動画にて特別公開しよう！ インタビュー中にスティーヴが話してくれた指のストレッチやギターを弾く際の姿勢についてのほか、「Knappsack」におけるギター・プレイ、“オニキス・ブラック”の新しいアイバニーズ“PIA”について、そして“奇才”ならではのアドヴァイスなど、誌面未掲載部分も含めてたっぷりとお楽しみいただきたい。

ヴァイのことばにはテクニックやメンタリティの内容以上にギタープレイに向上を与えてくれるものがある。
親しみやすく魅力的で、尊敬してやまない。
ヴァイの言葉は昔から一貫してますね。
「自分の心がやれと言ったならば何がなんでもやらなくてはならない。」
との彼の言葉を大事にしてます。
とても有意義なことを話してくれたヴァイ氏と公開してくれたyoung guitarに心からお礼を言いたいです ありがとうございます
愚かな私はレッスンプロ的な人が似たようなことを説いていても素直にきけないが
憧れの音楽と見習いたい演奏をしてる人の言葉なら響いて受け入れることができる
フレーズや音色、音使いの他に奏法やギター哲学の説明も本当に丁寧で素敵なギタリスト。
「変態」「奇才」という言葉では収められないほど色々と飛び抜けている。
自分も今、首と腰を痛めています。ヴァイと同じように腰を曲げてガニ股で歩くのがカッコいいと勘違いしてきて中学生くらいから３０年間くらい姿勢が悪いまま暮らしてきて今に至ります。
まさに自分と同じような状況だったので、驚いたのと同時に、すごく響く言葉でした。
まだ集中しないと姿勢を保つことはできませんが、少しずつ癖を直していきたいと思います。
VAI先生…音を奏でる姿勢の授業ありがとうございます。

Happiness is not something that substain, it's like a muscle that you need to keep training every day. Steve's music is a reflexion of his own happiness and you can feel it in every notes he play... And that happiness is contagious!

Sitting, the standard classical guitar pose is still the best. I think John Petrucci also records like this.
好きで英語やってるが流暢にしゃべれるレベルではない自分だがヴァイの話は目をつぶって字幕見てなくても発音がめっちゃ聞きやすい。何言ってるのかめっちゃわかる。
日本のメディアだって分かってるから海外向けのスピーチを心がけてるんだろうか。
日本のメディア向けではないヴァイのインタビューもよく聞きますが、彼はいつもこんな感じで話していますよ。
言いたい事が自分の頭の中ではっきりしていて理路整然と無駄なく話せる人だから聞き取りやすいのかもしれないですね。

昔はスティーブが表紙のヤングギター買えて幸せだったな当時はギターヒーローも多くてみんなフレーズに個性があって、譜面のフレーズがエグすぎて弾けなくて。スティーブとビリーの2000万パワーズは未だに最強です。

I sat for years playing guitar with a leg crossed to sit the guitar on ,always the same ,the left leg over the right ,and last year I had such a pain in my hip that I couldn’t sleep ,and it was all from the wrong posture ,

ヤングギターは日本の雑誌だけど、今や世界に認知された日本のギター雑誌になりましたからねぇ。海外ギタリストにとってヤングギターに取材される事が今やステータス。あのクラシックギターの村治佳織も高校生の頃から登場してたり凄い雑誌だねヤングギター。昔のキャッチコピーはギターを弾く若者の月刊誌ヤングギターだったかな。

Sometimes musicians for forget we are there to entertain. No one gets entertained by us just staring at out fretboard. And the crowd loves those weedeely runs that guitar is st call cheap. So what! Entertain the people, and if you are a real musician you’ll appreciate the craft of entertaining people while expressing your inner feelings and moods.
I don't like Steve's sense of melody, but I respect his knowledge and technique. He's great!
