His music might not be for me, but I've got to say, I love how articulately he talks about amps and guitars. I can always listen to an interview with Vai. He also comes across as a very humble guy.
His music might not be for you, ( love some of his stuff, don’t like some of his stuff), but , I agree 100%!!! Gear wise, listen to Your ears, and your heart!
I’m convinced Steve Vai is one of the nicest and down to Earth guys in the music business. Looks like Mitch had some fun jamming at the end too. Cool video. Synergy Preamps and systems as a whole are pretty awesome and versatile.
Man, I will cry like a baby remembering the 80's when my life passes before my eyes...... I will also die a happy man because of it. Music is the Best!
i really dig how Steve is always so appreciative of getting to work with these companies even with his accomplishments, he’s still super grateful to be able to have signature gear really cool
I too am a 58 year old shredder with 42 years playing under my widening belt sadly I only have 6 original Jems in my collection so buying this will make me feel better for a few weeks....
Ok- 6?- that’s 6 more than l could stand - ( blues - player ) just saying Vai is the king of gear gods- picture every month pitching new gear in guitar magazines for ten years
Palidicio Vermingagurainia haha true enough he has more endorsement deals than just about anybody worthy of note, only to be outdone by Gene Simmons The master of merchandise, although I would never want to spring for the KISS coffin
SYNERGY is EXACTLY the old Randall/Egnater MTS stuff! You can even use the old modules with the new stuff and other way round ON PURPOSE! So grad some older Randall stuff because those amps and modules go for like 1/4th of the price or even less and don't sound worse.
Steve said "Convenience and quality". I think that describes Sweetwater pretty well. I'm a huge Synergy fan and user. It's interesting that Steve's module doesn't have his special knobs on it. I'd have thought those would be changed out by now. (Or this video was recorded quite a while ago.)
man Vai gives things such a emotional feel and expression and mitch helps make it easy for non musicians to get what we are all drooling over. this is a amazing combo of presenters and a amazing sounding product.
your not alone...I've been playing guitar for over 20 years and I would still get flustered if he asked me to jam with him.you just can't help it because you know your playing with someone that can break a string on a 7 string tremelo set up (which makes all the strings go out of wack)yet steve is the type of musician that can still play normally on that now "out of wack" and now a 6 string guitar because his brain already picked up on those other 6 strings and what tuning they are at after that string break..there is actually a video that I recently scene from "Wings of Pegasus " where he analyzed this same scenario that I mentioned...I was in awe after watching the video and seeing this master Steve Vai still finish the song with only 6 strings and still finding the correct notes after the remaining 6 strings went totally out of wack...that's something I have never seen before and incredible to watch.
Beautiful, the guitar tones in my head ! Mr. Vai has a very special ear, I like the way he smoothes all the guitar tones, like a sweet sound for the finest ear ! ...
I have the jemini pedal, I can honestly say it's amazing, it adds a bit of a professional sound to what ever tone you have. Hopefully I'll get a vai synergy amp to go with it. Still love the carvin legacy sounds.
His beautiful tone doesn't seem to be lacking anything without the Fractal rig, but then again, give Mr. Vai a one string shovel and a gorilla amp and he'd be musical.
I buy all my gear from Sweetwater..I guess it's the customer service that keeps bringing me back ..they have the best customer service on the planet..I've never had a bad experience with Sweetwater and for them to have a great like Vai on their channel makes it even more sweet.(no pun intended)
I'm glad Vai is on board. I loved the idea of the Randall system. I saw him in concert and he went all out for our small audience of maybe 300-500. Amazing show!! He even dressed up in the alien costume. He's a true legend.
sweetwater is customer friendly. bought a simple bottle of fret conditioner and it arrived packed as well and with the candy the same as if it was a 800 pickup set. its the sizzle not the steak sometimes.
To be fair, boss digital delays were some of the most expensive pedals you could buy when they came out. The whammy was ingenious and novel, and his vai pedal is probably just what hes used to. The boss chorus was a massive improvement on the ce-1. No more need for a separate power plug and a pedal that's a foot wide. You gotta remember that hes old haha
Dave Friedman is a genius and the guy behind this amp cooperative we are experiencing today. Synergy is a 2.0 step up from the Egnater and Randall RM module systems that were around 15 years ago.
I modified my Mesa Nomad 100 so, I can add the Syn1. I am thinking I might just get the Syn 2, buy 2 modules. What I am torn about, is that I could get the Syn 30 combo and make my life easier to go to practice and have a lighter amp, both options are about the same cost. I already have too much crap on the top of my Mesa Nomad 100. I have a Parametric eq, Noise gate, Two Notes Torpedo Captor 8 and a power supply for the EQ, and NS-2. The Syn1 is another thing to deal with. I have a Faux amp head that has a preamp, MosValve, and ADA Microcab II. I could put the Syn2 in that and have a stereo rig there. So, I have to save up and decide what I want to go. I really have been excited by the Synergy setup. I am glad they have so many options. I am excited about the Vai module, the Bogner Ecstacy, and Soldano modules!
Synergy sounds good!!!!.....But, my Triaxis actually does a M2C+, a M2C+ Red, a JTM45, a Twin, a JMC800 and a modern super clean...I mean, I can't even find time to play with these sounds :) Throw a couple of ODs in front and you get from Gary to YJM to Metallica to Joe Bonamassa to Motley Crew and then some....So, for now, I am just saving for a second Triaxis :)
Ibanez: We have this master built PIA for you, made from Kryptonite and elven wood, signed by god, enchanted to never play a wrong note! Steve: Where's my EVO?
Brilliant idea. Now if they could just extend the concept to pedals as well...imagine a small box with slots for effects pedals. No knobs, just MIDI footswitch controlled...
Vai made a classic Joe Raposo Sesame Street reference! I thought he already imitated Raposo with Salamanders in the Sun. But why is Love Secrets green? I hear many colours while listing to that piece!
O come on man don't be so scared to Jam . If you get a chance to jam with some one like steve go for it . It's all about melody. Make it sound good with what every you have .
Help please,, ive been playing for 30 years but always just tinkered with effects and modelers and now im really getting into tube amps and hiw they work but some of it is confusing,,, so ive come to ubderstand that the preamp and power amp sections both color and shape your sound so if someone were to grt i to buying preamps, vai's synergy for instance, wouldnt whatever amp's power section further color the sound this ruining the sound you're going for by buying the preamp you like? Like i said im still learning so just wonderin is this he way it works or does the preamp more color the sound and the poweramp just amplify it? For instance if i buy a vai synergy would it sound drastically diffrent with each amp its paired with? And if so is that where u would just tweak the poweramp section of each amp to get to the sweet spot u like which will be different settings on each amp? Thanks in advance, any/all answers welcome thanks!
Great video and great playing as always. I have one question as I dive deeper into this: If I use a Syn-1 or Syn-2 with Steve's any of these great sounding modules and run this through one of my own amps as explained, wouldn't the tone of the Syn module be colorer (effected) by my amp's existing preamp? I don't see how it would not considering that the Syn module is being plugged into the amps input. I realize that it is also being routed through the amps effects loop but I still cannot make sense of this and would be grateful if you or a knowledgeable viewer could enlighten me.
PJ, it only hits the power amp section of your amp, so it's bypassing the preamp section completely. Many but not all Boogies effects loops won't work with this.
You don't plug it in the input but in the return of the effects loop. This is after the preamp so you are bypassing it. It goes straight to the poweramp. You can switch between your amp preamp and synergy's with the 3 or 4 cable method, I don't remember which one now.
The guitar that Mitch is using while jamming with Steve, pretty slick. can you find that on retail ? or is it a special ed version that only Steve has.. anyone ?
Hey, Kevin! Thanks for reaching out. You can switch between the two, but you can't use both simultaneously. You could achieve that by running two SYN-1's and putting them through a signal combiner, a mixer, or just running them to separate amps or speakers altogether. www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/SYN-1 If I can help further, just get in touch. Thanks! Connor Smith, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1793, connor_smith@sweetwater.com
Can the four cable method be used for a multi-effects unit on a similar rig to what Steve Vai is using for that rack? Also, is there a shared effects loop if you use a similar rack to what Steve Vai is using?
Am I understanding this correctly? This is simply getting the preamp sections of all the best amp builders that run into a power amp? Mr Steve said there’s no amp modeling is that correct?
Feel like its too expensive you could do quite a bit of this by getting a jmp1 mp1 triaxis bogner fish etc in the past wnd get a ton of tones which are midi controllable. With 1 power amp

Sweetwater a Marshall and a Mesa combined.
SLO-100, the Mesa, the JCM-800, and of course the Vai signature.

Stringprodigy You’re so pure.

His music might not be for me, but I've got to say, I love how articulately he talks about amps and guitars. I can always listen to an interview with Vai. He also comes across as a very humble guy.

I have the synergy 5050 and a syn-1 loaded with a soldano SLO module and it sounds absolutely incredible. This is the future folks!
Finally an interview where Steve actually plays the module. Thank you.
Nice to see a pro player speak with such eloquence and knowledge, and excitement. Especially when he's clearly had every option out there. Love Steve.
The way that Steve says "Module" sells it for me.
now that you've pointed that out it's hilariously distracting

That sounds brutal in every way. The cleans melted my face. Beauty.
No decade is complete without a Steve Vai product- take it from a 58 yr old- saying since the late eighties

Saw him last night in Jacksonville and can say with certainty...the synergy rig sounds fantastic. Best I've heard in a long time.
Very nice to see Steve letting Mitch play his guitar alongside him. A memorable moment, I'm sure. Way to go guys.
what an awesome system, you can collect pre amps like hockey cards..
Mitch jamming with Vai - Priceless
Everything Steve plays is the best ever. As long as he is being paid.

Mitch is sitting there thinking to himself, "holy shit how cool is my job, I've got Steve F'ing Vai sitting next to me jamming"....LOL!!!!!!!!
Man, that guitar actually speaks on the hands of Steve Vai. Sweet tone from that amp too.
What is not to love about steve vai, genious!!! The sweetwater guy is such a cool guy as well, always great interviews!!!
Man, if Steve asked me to jam I would be so star-struck and intimidated that I would completely forget how to play at all.

Im just hearing about this module system for the first time! Holy crap! Game changer. I like the sound of the combo option.

We all love you Steve. We will buy this product. You do not have to sell it THAT hard.
His beautiful tone doesn't seem to be lacking anything without the Fractal rig, but then again, give Mr. Vai a one string shovel and a gorilla amp and he'd be musical.

Vai is awesome. He just made me want a synergy system.
holy shit. he is something to listen to. he was my first concert at 15. Skyscraper tour.
Bro those crunchy clean tones are killing me... I would buy the combo tho....
I need it! Must have it! I’ll store it in the box in my closet with everything else I don’t need or use
2 years later... but I got mine! Love it like the Uberschall. What. A. Sound.
Nice. I love watching a master at work
I'm glad Vai is on board. I loved the idea of the Randall system.

As if modular amps weren't cool enough, now theres a bright green Steve Vai module. Going on the wishlist.
I want one so bad, that's my favorite color, too.
Great interview!

MARVIN THE BOON Yeah, I ordered six Dunlop Jazz III picks....got the candy!
I love the fact that Vai uses mass production pedals.

Cheers Steve. Legend.
Starting learning lead because of you 🔥🔥
flawless playing
I wish the Soldano module was purple!
Steve has kool Rockstar boots. Thanks for keeping the spirit alive. :)
Reminds me of george lynch and his randal lynch box amp wiith different modules, he had these in the 90's
Love it!Steve is reason why I play!
Great interview and the Artist was listened to!
Anyone else pause to see what Steve's pedal settings are, or is it just me?
The Vai and the Soldano, maybe one of the Fenders for cleans. Forgot the Diezel!
Via has def gone even more micro-tonal in his playing-even more than Beck. I’m not a big Beck fan but find Vai so musical.
I'd like to have one of that sitting in my network rack together with cisco routers
I wish there was an ADA module: clean distortion channel and distorted channel. There are other modules with clean or add it to the Syn 30.
Jaded Faith made one.
@@-thirteen Thanks, I will have to check that out Thank you.

The moment Mitch realizes he's watching Steve Vai play guitar 1 on 1.. 🤯
Steve and Mitch must be good friends :)
I love how I couldn't even hear mitch's guitar at the end!
Which kind of Jem is the guitar on the right?
What are the guitar pedals that he used in the video ? Does anyone know ?

It all went down hill for Vai when he lost to Ralph Macchio down at the Crossroads.
