I never thought a band could perfectly combine electronic, post-punk and alternative rock, until I listened to Depeche Mode. One of the best bands of all time!
I'm 14 and I grew up with Depeche Mode thanks to my dad. Last and this year, I went to Depeche Mode concerts and they were magnificent. I'm so happy that I got to see them, sadly, many of us "younger" people don't know this kind of music. I'm thankful to my parents for showing me 80s music and following!
I'm 14 too and I also grew up with depeche mode's music. My parents had some of thier albums and used to play them all the time. I heard one of thier songs recently (personal jesus) and it brought back the memories.
Depeche Mode= best band ever! They have a unique style , dark but magnificent electronic melodies, amazing lyrics and voices ( Dave's voice of course but also Martin's). They really are an incredible band. DM forever!
@@je23508 Hell yeah, they do. My first was in 1990. Ever since, every time they come to LA...lost count of the # of times I've seen them. Friend had a painting autographed by Gore at the Faith and Devotion tour.
I literally busted into tears, I can't believe how much Depeche Mode means to me and the fact that I'll be seeing them live in less than a month is just too good to handle. Thanks for existing DM, my favorite band, the best band ever!!!
I am a big DM Fan from the albums Speak and Spell in 1981 till Black Celebration in 1986. From 1987 it was not my style and to commercial for my ears. Martin Gore and his fucking guitar damaged the great Synthsound from the first years of their career.
I’m a metal fan slayer, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, I remember as a child I hated Depeche Mode cuz my sister would always play “ people are people” just can’t get enough and somebody nonstop, Then my brother became a fan he didn’t like the rock music I play and listen too, I took out a Depeche Mode cassette tape out threw it against the wall , LOL, till one day a girl came along with my sisters friend same age as me, She started singing “Somebody” I was so in love in with her, I became a Depeche Mode fan, LOL, spring 1990 I bought violator cd played it nonstop
To be fair, that stuff was so much more their poppy end… but when they started getting darker both musically and lyrically, that is when they started to get fucking really awesome.
Also not sayjng I don’t enjoy poppy. I have a quite expansive music pallet. I love shit Like Rainbow, priest, maiden, cannibal corpse, slipknot as well as bb king, rush, backstreet boys, john mayer, django reinhardt, Charlie parker, hank williams sr, buddy holly, cream, jimi hendrix, its a bit everywhere. Love music shamelessly, people who pretend not to like shit to seem cool or whatever are the REAL posers.
Hardly an 80s band. They started in the 80s but had massive success in the very late 80s and early 90s. I never knew them from the Vince Clark, Speak & Spell days as I'm not in the UK. So much better with Martin Gore taking over songwriting duties. They are simply timeless.
A hugely influential band. Nine Inch Nails, Muse, heck, even Nirvana cited them as musical godfathers. Loved them since the start (I'm a 48 year old Englander) and I saw them at the London Stadium a coupla weeks back. They still carry that immense power and poise that only a very few, special bands have. And Dave Gahan is a total Rock God!
I totally agree with you! I'm a faithful fan from the very begining ( I'm also 48) and i love them to bits! I was 2 weeks ago at the concert in Manchester. They were in a perfect condition, full of brilliant energy, created a unique atmosphere full of amazing spirit in the air:)
And many others great bands in very diverse genres. For example the much regretted Chester Bennington from Linkin Park often mentioned DM were his favorite band ever.
I literally busted into tears when I saw Mojo doing a video on Depeche Mode. It’s like listening to your favorite band then having your parents wonder into your room, asking who your listening to cause they think it’s a ‘toe tapper.’ 😩
I been a fan since Music for the Masses came out. By far my favorite band. 39 years old now, and have seen them 22 times in 11 countries. As big a cult following they have, they were never mainstream which sucks. They deserve more credit
Great band, loved them in 1982 when i was 18 still love them today in 2019, talented musicians coupled with Daves unique vocals is a world class combination.....
Best Band Ever! Sensual, poetic and undeniably brilliant...their song lyrics and music live deep inside me and have for many, many moons. Dave Gahan is the very best frontman ever.
They were nominated in 2018 and were snubbed. I voted for them. But in retrospect, this band have always been non-establishment alternative gods to us fans. So I'm happy they didn't get in and freaking Bon Jovi did! Their legendary status is already part of the historical record. Dont need the RRHF to certify it for us.
Depeche Mode History can be summed up in two eras: Depeche Mode with Alan Wilder and Depeche Mode without Alan Wilder, guess which era produced ALL their hits?
I saw Depeche Mode for the first time in 2005 almost a decade after Alan Wilder left. I’ve seen them 6 times since. We’ll be seeing shows 7 and 8 this year. Home is a great post Alan Wilder song. So are It’s No Good, Precious and Wrong.
Geez mojo staff, were you all born in the 90s? It’s laughable for you to say the hit the big time in 1990. They were huge by the mid-eighties and even had a greatest hits album at that time you don’t seem to know about! Do your homework and not a cut and paste!

Best 80's band by far.
They've improved with each decade whereas many of their contemporaries are happy to belt out the same old songs.
