No one in the UK understands how fuckig huge this band is. They're easily one of the top 5 band's of all time
Depeche Mode was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020. They are the first band playing electronic music in this company. They are one of the most influential bands in music history, inspiring artists from a wide variety of genres, from metal to hip hop, read about who recorded their covers, and how many artists admit that DM had the biggest influence on them. For the last two decades, they have regularly filled stadiums during concert tours. Every tour they've done since 2005 has easily ranked in the top ten highest-grossing concert tours of the year, according to statistics. They have been operating continuously for over 40 years. As the only artist in the history of music, they created their own subculture, especially in Eastern Europe, Germany, and Latin America; no other band has done it. I will not say that they are the top 5 bands in the world, because it is difficult to count, and such rankings are pointless, but they were something like The Rolling Stones of electronic music. It's just that the Stones have not discovered a new genre of music, and like Depche Mode no one played before them, they are precursors. And today, everyone in the world already uses synthesizers. And from an American point of view, they were the first band playing purely electronic music to fill a stadium in the USA (Rose Bowl 88)

Dave is a Really Nice Guy I met him and his Wife with their children here in New York City a few times. He use to stop by a Book store with toys and comics; where I worked. He even asked me how I was feeling one day when he stopped by my job. In a ernest concerned way. That tv host has no Class.

@jane braun Yes his Wife name is Jennifer if you Google David Gohan he has Three Kids with his Wife now. I met David Gohan and his family back in 2001 while he was making his Paper Monster Album, here in New York City. He told me about it before anyone knew about it. Because I asked him "Are you working on anything new." Dave had two small Children in a stroller with his wife Jennifer during that time.

I met Martin and Dave when I was in Santa Barbara in 2007, I thanked them both for all of their wonderful music and hard work over the years and didn't say anything to Dave about that dark period he went through except, "Im so happy you are still singing Dave, you still have one of the best singing voices in the world and I will always be a fan!!" He smiled, shook my hand and thanked me. Enough said! Depeche Mode for LIFE!!

I can't believe Jonathan Ross said Dave wouldn't remember much of the time when he lived in California. So rude! Dave demonstrates his greatness by staying friendly and polite no matter how inappropriate the questions are. I love his sense of humour.

The only time in rock history where American bands were more creative than British bands was during the early 90s grunge era. Other than that, they've always been on top.
Dave had a great sense of humor here for the sorts of questions being asked by Ross. He's a very easy going guy.
People on here moaning about the questions directed at Dave should realise all the questions he’s being asked and the interview have already been rehearsed between them all beforehand do you honestly think it wasn’t rehearsed guys Cmon ?….

It's been almost two years since we lost Fletch, and it's still hard to believe he's gone.
Top 10 bands of all time. My personal favourite & 2023 10 years on from this without Fletch. Still they make a great album Momento Mori & start tour of relentless gigs around the world.
Dave & Martin are both in their 60’s now which is kind of surreal! Good luck to them! 🏴 🍀👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
You know what recovering addicts hate the most? The stigma that follows most for the rest of their lives due to one down period in their life. At some point a recovered addict must be allowed to be something other than a drug addict or former drug addict. I'm sure Martin and Andrew cringe every time an interviewer begins to question Dave about his past. Dave is the front man and he gets a lot of attention just because of his role in the band. But when his past is forced to take center stage...yet again...it fails to put the attention on their MUSIC. Their glorious, brilliant, genius music. To the eager, drug talk happy interviewer...GET OFF IT!!!! Don't you know who is sitting before you? The best fucking band in the world.
I think Dave actually doesn't mind spreading the message, that there is recovery for everyone who wants it. There is probably no stigma for him although he's most likely aware of todays stigma in society. Him spreading the message could save many lives. No worries
I'm in recovery as well. I often speak about my addiction and 5 years of sobriety. But there are times I feel I'd rather talk talk about the present and not my past. I understand your comment tho.

I should also say that Depeche Mode is my favorite band! I credit their music with helping me stay true to my sobriety. I have the Violator rose tattooed on the inside of my right wrist along with my sober date.

Dave is a true inspiration as he’s come through some really dark times he’s never hidden his drug addiction he’s always been up front and honest and he’s still making music still on stage and on tour DM will always be legendary immortal in every way music DM music classic forever love you Dave you should be sooo proud of yourself

Amazing band.... just saw them in Vegas... amazing amazing experience!!! Have been a fan of them since 1980.... Im 59 yrs old....
Me too. Five months in the planning. Took a bus ticket to Vegas from Hermosillo Mexico. 13 hour trip. Second tour seeing them live (saw them in Phoenix in September 27th 2017). Wore a black shirt and a Navy blazer because it's a one time event. Their music gave me bravery to travel solo and embrace the little things in life. I'm grateful for that experience as well.
Memento Mori isn't the album we wanted: it's the album we needed.

Dave has such a recognizable voice, I love their music..They are such introspective, humble men..
As many other viewers have commented Jonathan asked them some pretty inappropriate and inconsiderate questions and they handled it well with their sense of humour -Even though they are permanently in the public eye they're still healing and coming to terms with their own personal issues

It’s typical of British humor. Most other countries don’t understand it or think it’s offensive but it’s not uncommon there to make fun of yourself even if it’s a dark subject matter.

I listened to Violator fairly often my senior year in high school, but never really delved into their catalog beyond that. Until Fletch passed. And now they're almost all I've been listening to, and I regret not exploring more and much sooner.

i love them so much ! my first concert for them was when i was still in my mums belly haha she said i was kicking the whole time ! my official first concert for them was their sounds of the universe tour when i was 8 years old 🥺 i can’t wait to see them again. the last time i saw them was 2017💔💔

Actually, I only have one friend who likes DM. The rest, FIDGAF what they think. I have enjoyed their music for decades....I'm guessing us Depeche Mode fans are special. We know great music when we hear it.....!!!!

It's true. They have been selling out their shows here in the US for their tour. I was going to see them in San Diego but couldn't go but I heard they sold out. When you have great music you will have fans forever. They are a true real artist.

How´s that possible that even after three decades someone´s willing to dig into the worst part of their lives when there is so many things that makes them one of the most iconic bands and for many many people the miracle of music....MUSIC... that is the word which should describe them! What is wrong with all th press and media? They can´t be so stupid that they haven´t found some better topic to talk about with them, or can they? Jesus Christ! Every time I watch this video I tell myself that it has two sides. One that makes me watch it again - the light they´re able to bring with them and the other side - when I get angry because of the lack of esteem they get. It just seems like that even though Johnatan may love they´re music. What a waste of questions and time.
The reason is that we, as a country, do not appreciate DM as the rest of the world do...if they entered the Eurovision song contest they would probably win, the problem is UK music is far more diverse and powerful than the rest of the world...we have too much choice!

One of my all-time favourite New Wave bands!! Their music gave me some of my best moments on the dance floor. I was in my mid-20's when Depeche Mode burst onto the music scene. The musical collage during the introduction was excellent and at some points the interview was funny, but jnathon ross was disgusting to subject Dave Gahan to comment on two of the lowest points of his life--his drug addiction and his accidental/intentional 'death'. That was uncalled-for and not something us D.M. fans want to hear about. God Bless Dave--he handled it so well when he actually should have got up and walked off the stage! All in all, it was great to see these guys after so many years though! Now I will be playing their videos and singing their songs (esp. Enjoy the Silence) for the next few days! 😂

Sadly interviews with these legends are only on shows in the UK or elsewhere, that’s how dense and clueless we are to quality electronic music in the US, were to busy booking EDM or Trap artist for shows :(
