I know this was in L.A., and I am hundreds of miles away from there, but as far as I'm concerned, I think Depeche Mode Day should be an international holiday!
That man in the background with the white t-shirt at 5:07 is Richard Blade, the DJ who made Depeche Mode famous in L.A. back in the early 80s. Let's give this man some credit too.
I had no idea DM were so loved in LA to reach such a recognition. I listen to many different genres of music, Dave Gahan is one of my fav vocalists ever, such an amazing voice and a charismatic performer. DM rules! Greetings from Slovenia.
@@davisanaiz6742 Yeah, I know many people like them, also here in Europe but to declare a day as DM day especially in a city like LA is next level and DM is not even a band from the USA. Amazing. I just don't really get it if that was just for one day only (just Dec.13, 2023) or it means for every Dec.13 in LA from then on.
Bravo to Depeche Mode would include Dave Gahan, Martin Gore, Alan Wilder, and Andy Fletcher! Alan Wilder was responsible for bringing the music to great heights that still remain today! And especially one must take notice of Alan Wilder's Musical Genius, which is what made Depeche Mode what it is today. Thank you, Alan Wilder, for moving and captivating us with so many great songs that will always remain to have a strong hold on our hearts and souls.
One of the greatest rock bands of all time. Had the pleasure of attending several of their concerts all over Canada and the USA, Nice guys as well. Rock on
This tribute means the world to me. Depeche Mode was my everything growing up here in LA as a child and young adult-I vividly recall their KROQ moments with Richard Blade. Their music didn't just touch me; it reshaped my artistic landscape. During dark times, their melodies were my saving grace. Congrats to DM and to the city of LA for this incredible tribute! Depeche Mode remains an extraordinary band, and their impact is beyond words. DM rules! 😘🕺🙏☝
Dang the LA airport traffic! Was dropping hubby off and trying to make it to the ceremony in time. Missed it. But, no worries. The show they put on last night at Kia was amazing. Must admit, I cried tears of sadness and joy. DM never lets me down! DM concert goer since 1984, fan since 1981. Yep! My teenaged self would swoon😊 DM Forever❤
Despite the Sunshine,LA has a dark side and enjoy the melancholy sounds of DM. It’s good to see them laughing and enjoying the honor. LA does love DM because they have a cutting edge EM sound and good songs. Back during 101 they were the hippest coolest sounding band from Britain. They still sound good so it’s great to see them Honored. In the California Sun, it’s December and Graham is wearing a Tshirt! That’s the excellent climate LA has!
A band truly deserving of its day. They have in fact been very underrated. I would’ve loved had Alan wilder remained in the band. Nevertheless they have endured the test of times with countless hits. Thank Depeche Mode 👏👏👏
I miss Alan too. Any DM incarnation is fine by me, more than fine- really. But, the production talent that Alan possesses is/was incredible. It would have been nice to see where his work would have led the group had he remained.
What a glorious idea! Thanks for the video, it's a wonderful achievement, I don"t know if many bands got rewarded this way, it seems very special (and so deserved for DM!!!)
Great. Finally. I´ve listened to Depeche Mode since the very beginning. Can't believe Dave is in such good shape since his 1990s shit... And Martin´s Counterfeit LPs are still in my heart...
Felicidades se lo merecen es un honor que bandas como ustedes estén vigentes en este tiempo un honor felicitar desde México a Depeche Mode los Amo y su musica de las mejores ❤❤
Yesterday was my 53rd birthday & I'm from So. Cal. and a fan of Depeche Mode since I was a teen. Pretty cool Depeche Mode Day in L.A. was on my birthday this year. 😃
Love these guys, would be nice to see them on stage on their own for a photo to honour them. Once they were introduced, let THEM have a moment and step to the side.
Exactly! That damn lady wouldn’t let go and just wanted to be in every shot!!! It’s like who cares if you’re an L.A. councilwoman! You’re absolutely NOTHING compared to DEPECHE MODE! Just introduce them and get the hell out of the way porker!!!
Had some crazy nights out with Martin and Fletch back in the day - many of the most insane times were during the Violator tour. One occasion after the second Dodger’s stadium gig in 1990 springs to mind. When we drove up to Hollywood. Club called 70s?
How did i not c this ?!! OMG I'm a huge fan since they first came out. I was at the Rose Bowl concert, It was great. Gotta Depeche Mode tattoo....i'm so happy LA recognizes their contribution of great music all rhese years. DM day in LA. !!
For counsel woman Monica rodigas for all the love you gave to Dave and Martin I'm from LA now resigned in Seattle 30 I'm all tears 😭 of love ❤that you had made a DM day mr. Fletcher and mr. Wilder are proud with the love of much love is forever Depeche mode 4 ever amen I'm a loving supportive fan sence day one. Muchas gracious serita and falez Navidad to. Tricia Jones of Seattle WA 😊🎉🎉🎉❤
Depeche Mode held the record for the biggest crowd at the Rose Bowl in concert for several decades, until U2 broke it, and I think Cold Play broke the record again after that.
I guess DM fans will get together in clubs/bars/street corners/the Rose Bowl parking lot/parks/etc., sing along to a bunch of Depeche Mode songs, and dance the night away.
It´s just bullshit. Alan Wilder wasn´t recognized, Nobody that has anything to do with DM will be around in LA on the 1st anniversary or ever after. It´s just bs.
Спасибо мой любимый DM!слушаю тебя с 84года,People Are People, начиная с 1991года был на всех турне,последний в Таллине, все помнят Алана, Винса Кларка, но не помнят Флетча!он с нами! И его не хватает!forever young DM!❤
I really wish they were feted like this here in the UK. I reckon the Post Office should issue a set of stamps celebrating Depeche Mode like they did with Pink Floyd a few years ago. It would be great. So proud of the (mostly) Essex lads for what they have achieved. My parents are from Essex so I feel some affinity with them. Dave Gahan is the most Essex of all Essex Men! Ha haha. Essex in his accent, his look, his banter and his humour. Love them all. Best wishes from South East England.
Exactly this. The whole thing was awkward which is likely why MG kept laughing. You can tell from her intro that she was really talking about herself in those “dark days when it seemed the world was falling apart.” And no respect for Dave Gahan’s personal space, she was pawing all over him at every turn. Depeche Mode is *Amazing* but this was laughable in how it was carried out, because with all the issue LA has (I grew up up in LA, so I say that with love for my hometown), the thing this ‘councilwoman’ focused on was to use her position to get a closeup with Dave and Martin.
1983 to 1995. The Alan Wilder years. The definitive Depeche Mode sound for me. Pure genius from the group. Seen them live and was fortunate enough to get 4 autographs back in the 80s. Still not convinced Fletch had any input, musically though.
He didn’t. But I read that his opinion was valued on many decisions on every album. They came to him for advice professionally and personally. He was always their glue to hold them together until they were finally mature enough on their own, even to Spirit. In many interviews he was their orator, almost like a defacto spokesman, even with having Kessler as a manager. He was indeed Martin’s best friend. I think he contributed more than we’ll ever know. I miss Alan too, but as writers and instrumentalists and vocalists Dave and Martin are musically Depeche Mode and if anything happens to either of them, DM is done.
I know this was in L.A., and I am hundreds of miles away from there, but as far as I'm concerned, I think Depeche Mode Day should be an international holiday!

Says something about the effect Andy had on him?
