Mr. Taubes please do not underestimate or doubt how much you are helping us, especially those of us who have no health insurance and thus no access to doctors. I should be sending checks to you both. In a way I am because I am buying your book which is all I can afford. I guess what I am trying to do is thank you for reaching out to the under served.

I hadn't been to a doctor in 20 years, perhaps longer, but went after an incident of blurry vision one morning. A poor lab result sent me running to a low-carb diet, as I knew it would turn things around. In three months, labs were perfect, vision perfect, as well as several other additional benefits that were completely unexpected...one big change was suddenly sleeping all night long! On the 3 month visit, the dr was floored...and I was floored by her reaction. She wanted all the details on what I was doing (she had said she didn't think I could sustain such a change nor did she think it would 'work'). That was approx five years ago. I live a low-carb/no grains lifestyle and enjoy good health.

I made a comment on Reddit not two days ago about carb calories being more dangerous than fat or protein calories and had someone say that "everyone knows a calorie is a calorie based on thermodynamics." Ugh. I tried to explain that fat and protein are satiating, and carb calories are not so you end up eating many more carb calories to feel full than you would with fat or protein. They told me I was crazy. Keep up the fight!

Protein uses up more calories to digest, too.

Calorie is not a calorie even if you don’t eat more of them as carbs. The body doesn’t care about calories it cares about hormones and biochemical reactions. It so simplistic to say calorie in and calorie out. They have done studies showing identical genetically rats eating same calorie and one group gets fatter than the other. Depending on what foods they eat. Clearly morons over there. And none of this violates any of the first law. I think Reddit of full of people demonstrating the 2nd law. They all have entropy of the brain. Zero critical thinking skills.

Ugh _ Amazing it's so hard for so many to realize that the human body is a little more complex than a furnace where they just burn things to measure calories. Really hard to overcome that CICO mentality since it's just so damned ingrained.

I, also, had to tell my Dr. what I was no longer eating, because she couldn’t understand why my bloodwork and weight loss had such a turnaround. For years I was trying all the “diets” that what was supposed to be healthy. HA! I kept getting worse and worse until I finally stopped sugars, grains, and starchy vegetables. I also credit that way of eating to surviving some kind of virus last year and I”m 70+.

I've been low carb/no sugar/no processed foods for 4 years. I ate more beef but not much more (I didn't grow up on it so for me its been an acquired taste). My bad/good chol and triglycerides remained high.
It wasn't until last month, after a close friend died suddenly from uncontrolled t2 diabetes, that I decided to fully eliminate ALL grains even though I had already cut way down by 95%.
My latest bloodwork last week shows my bad chol is in normal range, the good chol went up, and the triglycerides are now well into normal range!
Did I mention I'm eating more beef and eggs now too?

Hello from Brisbane Australia. My wife and I started the keto diet on July 4, 2020 (an easy date to remember). We DID NOT consult our doctor because I don't think he is "keto friendly ". He reclassified me form type 2 to pre-diabetic. We've both lost about 7 Kg each. Me wife is from Hong Kong and a couple of days ago she saw a discussion on HK UA-cam about keto. She was very excited to hear the details in her own language and this has reinforced her resolve to make more effort with keto.

I am not frightened to fast any more because I don’t get headaches or hunger pains. I feel great with dirty fasting (almond milk in my coffee) and clean keto (Whole Foods). 2 people that really care. I went carnivore for1 month and my cardiologist dismissed me from his service saying he had never had a patient drop their cholesterol so much. He didn’t have anything to treat. And then my kidney doc called to say all my blood work was perfect I’ll see you in a year. So it works to eliminate complex carbs. I still eat some every once in a while but not very often.

I get choked up when I listen to vlogs like this. I went keto three years ago in a desperate move to fix my brain after a viral disease got into my head causing cranial nerve damage and meningitis. Keto got me back on my feet after two years of being bedridden and sleeping (more like being passed out) around the clock. So my very sickly younger sister finally overcame her fear of dietary fat and joined my diet. Vastly improved are her blood panels, seriously surprising her doctor. My sister has iron deficient anemia requiring blood and iron transfusions several times a year. She’s in the normal range for the first time in many years. Just like that. She also has COPD, disabling arthritis and metabolic disorders. All improved and she’s lost 10 pounds. I’m so grateful that she took the plunge. Hey everyone, talk to your loved ones. Show them your blood work. Challenge them to a one month trial. Great interview. Loved it!

Haha, you asked for it! I love my keto success story! I lost 56lbs 2 years ago. And now, I'm 61 years old and I feel healthy and strong, I don't get tired until it's bedtime..and then some, and I sleep like a baby. I don't feel a five mile a day hike. I never get sick; can't recall the last cold, flu or sore throat. My weight is where I want it; love the way I look in my clothes. I study, learn and remember constantly. I get along with the people around me. When my husband of 35 years passed away suddenly I grieved and addressed the loss but, I didn't fall apart or fall into a deep emotional pit; I dealt with the change. I feel in control of my physical and mental health and wellbeing so I feel at peace. I'm happy. I was not the opposite of all of these things before I delved deeply into keto. But it's made everything healthier and easier. And yes, I look 15-20 years younger than I am.

I have to get a physical every six months for my work. On my previous physical I was 6'2 256lbs. However, after two months on KETO my weight dropped to 232lbs. My goal was to be 6'2 and 225lbs. When I went to go see my doctor, he looked at my numbers and he yells out "Wow .. what did you do? You are way down!" And I said, "I stopped eating carbs or low carbs and I started walking." (Previously I would go to the gym and do cardio until my heart rate would peak out and see how long I could hold that. Now, I keep myself in the fat burning range ... max 128BPM.) My doctor was floored. Every metric in my bloodwork was within the range except for my total cholesterol, it was 208. And I'll take 208 any day! I left a strict KETO diet and had a diet what I could call very low carbs -- I'd eat them if they were on the plate, but only a couple of spoons full. On the next 6 month physical, my weight was 223! Instead of regressing, I held my weight off. I feel so much better. My sleep is more productive and I am not tired throughout the day. I love beer and if I go out with the boys, I will have a couple of Michelob Ultras (2.6 carbs each) and it doesn't kick me out of KETO. Over Covid 2020, my diet suffered because of the restaurant closures and being on the road for work and finding real food to eat. But I am now on strict KETO and I can already feel the benefits. I don't think I will go back to an unhealthy crap food again.

I met someone who had lost 10 stone after a gastric banding . However , here's the thing - that person was a type 1 diabetic from their mid teens ! I didn't have chance to ask them what type of dietary advice they had been given, but my reaction was ' how the heck did a type 1 diabetic get so big ' ? Type 1 diabetes , prior to treatment, gives so many clues on how to lose weight , and here we have a person getting morbidly obese post treatment . Again more clues on how to put on weight . ' The Diet Delusion ' - what a seminal book . All credit to Mr Taubes for that great book . Part of the paradox is that it was a journalist rather than a medic who wrote it . Keto with all the fake foods didnt cut it for me anymore. I had to go full carnivore to cure my sugar addiction. I did work great for me in the past though and I def think it works when done right. I think my health had gotten just too bad at this point, and I needed results FAST! I had horrible digestive issues and a big bad rash that my doctor didnt know what to do with. It took only 2-3 weeks for the rash to resolve and days for my digestive issues. Whenever I slipped, it all came right back. I lost 22lbs and still going strong! Haven't felt this good in years! At this point its a lifestyle and not a diet. I can see what eating carbs and sugar does to my health. Im pretty young too, soon to be 29 yo... cant believe how I felt like dying most days. I'd spend days laying down because I was completely drained and sick. I love your work! Ill have to check Dr Taubes books, they seem great. Thanks for all the inspiration xx

My keto success story: I started keto and IF mid January 2021. Used to take 3 bp pills, was kind of a couch potato, very very overweight and out of breath after going upstairs in my house. Today, no more pills (already after a couple of months), super active, no more being out of breath, no more junk food, lots of energy 😁. I am down 66 Ibs so far and almost back to normal weight🎉. Now I'm trying to convince my friends and family. Thank you Dr Berry & Neisha and Dr Fung for everything you do ❤️

As a low carb/keto devotee since the days of Atkins, I found this interview involving two of the genuine living legends of the movement, very enjoyable
and informative. It's like sitting down with old friends. I have been T2 diabetic for approximately 30 years and never been on insulin. I do take low doses of three medications: Metformin 2 x 500mg/day, Crestor 10mg every other day, and Ramipril 5mg/day. All blood work is fine. A1c is 6.5 which could and has been better. I am my Endocrinologist's record holder for non-insulin T2 for longest period by a margin of 16 years over the next in line.
Low carb has been the key. I started with Atkins and am still basically there. The proof is in the keto pudding.
Great to see these two high class gentlemen spreading the message with such passion, knowledge and belief. I am sure thousands will be helped by their efforts.

I still see headlines from time to time (Just two weeks ago most recently) that say: "Keto is the absolute worst possible diet you can possibly be on"!. No supporting documentation. Just opinions that refer back to the "FDA recommended daily allowance of this veggie, and that grain etc. December 2018 my Dr. had his nurse call me and tell me: "you better do something now, if you don't want full on diabetes". So, I did. Tried standard dieting and lost maybe 15 lbs. then it leveled out. No matter how hard I exercised or dieted. Ran into an old friend who lost 50 lbs on Keto. Decided to give it a try. I Didn't consult my Dr. for his approval. I just followed what Dr Berry had as advise on his channel and I also lost 50+ lbs. By the time I went back to see my Dr., he walked into the exam room shaking his head laughing while looking at my chart. "Who the hell am I to argue with your success" ? was his only real reply. Still doing Keto now.

Last year I weighed 178kg (1.82m tall, 42yrs old), visited my GP did blood tests, was given an all clear to attempt a 7 day water fast, I lost 10kg. My diet was bad, and had a lot of stress, so I gained it 10kg back and an addition bit of weight. Three weeks ago, I went to see the GP and Cardiologist due to heart palpitations, my results showed that I was fine except for my weight. They both advised I lose the weight (at the time I was weighed @ 187kg). I started watching your channel and a few other doctors online, I then formulated a modified version that basically incorporated water fasting (ADF), keto and paleo. Last week I lost 20kg, this week I lost 12.9kg, am now sitting at 153.6kg. Each time I weighed I couldn't believe it, I weighed 4-10 times and each time the scale varied slightly, I have my 4yr old daughter as a control for the scale just in case the scale was buggy. That's my ongoing transformation story so far. Thank you for the wonderful and very helpful content, I feel great and looking forward to the coming weeks and months of progress.

I was strongly urged by my doctor to attend a nutrition class for diabetics and there I was taught to eat no more than 15 g of carbs in 3 meals per day. I started out with that as ambition and began measuring my blood sugar and very soon the light finally came on in my head that sugar is the enemy, not the fat. I have drifted toward lower carbs and now I can say I am definitely on a keto diet with OMAD. My A1c dropped very quickly. Now it's become boring to measure blood sugar because it is always low and steady.

But since I have been following nearly a zero carb diet my dental report has been good, that I have been taking good care of my teeth, even though half of my teeth have been extracted and wear partial dentures. I told my dental hygienists that I haven't eaten sugar in almost 4 years and she was astonished. I am astonished that that dental office staff does not know that sugar causes cavities and plaque! I just recently was told by the dentist after getting my new dentures in order to go easy on my new teeth that I should eat a banana rather than the steak that I was going to try out my new teeth🤨. Apparently he has never heard of Weston Price.

I got a new primary care physician at Mayo 1.5 years ago. She's morbidly obese, in her late 30s. Been working on her. She knows I went low-carb 2.5 years ago following heart attack. I won't shut up about low-carbs, trigs/HDL, A1C, hyperinsulinemia, etc. Saw her last month, and she's lost weight. Said she read Jason Fung's book! She's been coy about low carb, like anyone at the big institution Mayo, but I'm quite sure she's gone low carb. In other words, no sugars, grains, veg oils, just real food, HIGH FAT!

Went to my heart dr last week and he wants me to do the “plant based “ diet. My blood pressure was 129/52, heart rate 62, and cholesterol was almost 300! And that’s where the problem is for him. I have been doing keto/low carb for 3 years, lost 60 lbs and have stalled for 2 years on weight loss. I also have psoriatic arthritis that some foods make worse. I am worried about my heart health after visiting him! He also follows Esslestyns plant based diet and wants me to try it for 2 weeks. I am really struggling on what to do. There is SO much conflicting info out there a person doesn’t know who to trust. I know I feel pretty good, and some days are pain free, when I eat more of the carnivore side of the spectrum. But, I can’t physically see my heart and any complications that may be happening. I have rewatched some of your videos Dr Barry to find info directly about cholesterol and heart health but can’t find any specifically. There are tidbits here and there, but not whole episodes on the matter. I have eaten plant based for 2 days and my hands are so inflamed I can’t hardly close them, gained 2 pounds, and feel lousy! Am definitely considering buying both books mentioned here, as well as Mr Lutwig’s book for myself and then sharing with my heart dr… I am a 62 year old female, that has 6 brothers whom have had heart bypass surgeries, and I don’t want that same fate! I’m just trying to stay alive here and not go under that same knife! I just want to be armed with scientific info that is accurate for myself.

"It spreads because it works".. I can't RELATE more!!
Like 2+ months ago i found you/your channel, since then i've been trying to implement a KETO/carnivore diet.
The more i practice this lifestyle, the more i notice.. I have been living in a carbohydrated world since i was born!! (1996)
Bread for breakfast (and people vouche for "not too much spread", i.e, peanut butter, chocolate paste, "Hagelslag" (im dutch), i dont eat butter but most peolpe i know butter their bread with Margarine or "Halvarine", the so called Diet Soda amongst the butters, and still add the above mentioned toppings, then again, bread for lunch and usually potatos for dinner, or Pasta cuz it's easily made and always...a dessert...
These are just the carbohydrates i noticed. And these combine 65-70%, might even say 75-80% of daily consumption in my circle.
Ofcourse there are many foods, like meats and dark greens we do consume, the necassary foods to keep us thinking we're living the healthy life,.. but once i started following you, they don't amount much to the carbohydrate dominate diet my circle consumes.
Bless you and Bless anyone finding your channel

I love listening to you, you are incredible in each video I learn new things.Greetings from Spain, sometimes I find it hard to read your books in English, I wish they were in Spanish too, but little by little I get to understand the information. My health problem is inflammation of the scalp such as dermatitis and also delicateintestine ... I have been eating low in carbohydrates, low in oxalates, little fruit 1 piece a day, without legumes, without nuts, without dairy, without grains, low in red meat, very few eggs, taking probiotics but also low in fat only oil ofextra virgin olive, sunbathing every day, yoga ...chronic dermatitis almost negligible but my ferritin also dropped a lot, my cholesterol, my uric acid obviously low. The problem is that when I eliminate all the fruits and lower the carbohydrates even more and I add saturated fat and more protein and more eggs and more red meat, the dermatitis worsens, although I feel more energetic and stronger. What is the problem that I can do to achieve balance and why dermatitis produces more protein and animal fat if it is the most real food. I have spent years analyzing and experimenting but I do not get the absolute prize. doctor ken berry everything you explain makes sense maybe my intestine is not yet ready to assimilate such amount of fats and proteins should go little by little ...?I don't understand, it's a bit frustrating

Recently I saw one of your videos against dairy -- particularly milk -- where you correctly highlighted the disproportionately large number of adults suffering from lactose intolerance. I happen to not have that problem, albeit being a Black Jamaican.
My question is, How do fermented milk foods such as kefir play a role in the HFLC method? as I particularly enjoy it with dinner... All my findings on lactose intolerance implicates pasteurised milk; but it doesn't exist with raw milk or kefir. After all, our ancestors did drink both.
