- A look behind the scenes at Bespoke Alloy wheel refurbishment Uxbridge as we drop the 954 RS magnesium cup alloys off to get them refurbished. Powder coating, diamond cutting, crack repair, straightening. All aspects of wheel refurbishment are covered.
Nice video... I just refurbished / refinished my set of Mercedes amg monobloc 18x9.5 wheels for my 2005 Audi allroad. It is a multi day process to clean the wheel then sand down the curb rash, sand the existing finish down then prep the polished lips to 3000 grit then clean once more, tape off the to be polished lip, spray the color on the wheel, wait for the paint to cure a bit then apply the final clear coat, wait few days for the finish to fully cure before final polish of the lips then finally be able to mount the tires & the wheels onto the allroad....
We ended up re-doing these wheels as the paint finish bubbled up. It was a very lengthy process indeed and involved a full strip, lots of hand sanding, several coats of primer and lots of time.
Nice video Henry, really insightful - thank you.
Many thanks :-)
Nice video, thanks for that. I dropped my car off at Bespoke Alloys this morning, friendly bunch of people. After seeing this video, I'm really excited about getting my car back with some lovely anthracite grey alloys! cheers
Enjoy your refurbished wheels !!
Really interesting, nice interview.
Thanks for the kind words
Very informative video! Thanks! Having recently taken the lead in looking after my dads Morgan aero 8 , refurbishment of his badly parking scuffed magnesium alloys is a priority. Nice 1!
We actually had a bit of a problem with the alloys after a while, they developed measles, small lumps over the entire wheel. We ended up sending them to Chris at Exel wheels. He is the guy to use for specialist stuff. They weren't cheap in the end due to many hours of hand work needed to seal the magnesium but they are now all sorted. I think that's the nature of magnesium alloys - a very specialist refurbishment.
Nice video again, however I would appreciate in this, as in the previous ones, that Henry would not interrupt the others while talking so often. It is nice to hear from them what they have to say.
You have to remember these are not scripted videos and the people being interviewed are often extremely camera shy to the point of nearly not appearing. I'm really keen to capture their expertise but have to try and support them and direct narrative on the fly. Ultimately I'm a car dealer not a professional film maker or interviewer.
@@911virgin8 Thanks for the answer. No problem, please do not get me wrong, it was a suggestion as a viewer without knowing your issues to get the people in front of the camera. In any case I like the videos, just tried to see if the opinion would help, that's all. Looking forward to the next one and thanks again Henry.
@@enriquegranda No worries :-)
Thirty quid and a packet of peanuts Haha, kind of throw away comment I’ve heard many times. Pay peanuts you get 🙊. Great video again, please keep them coming! 👏🏻
A Cornish pasty & a Mars bar is another phrase I use a lot :-)
Bespoke refurbished the wheels on my 997 GT3 after I clipped a rear on that narrow little hump back bridge near the industrial estate on the way from West Drayton to Porsche Torque! They're simple, single colour all painted wheels of course, car I have now has the Carrera Classics which are painted and diamond cut. I would imagine Bespoke are able to repair those and retain the diamond cut? (many refurber don't do that, their only finish is painted?. Great video series.
I know exactly where you damaged the wheels, a terrible set up that constantly gets destroyed. Yes, they can diamond cut, there's a bit in the video which shows their computerised lathe. We had some quite complex wheels (non Porsche) done by Bespoke recently and they did a great job for a fraction of replacement cost.
@@911virgin8 Ah, covered at 6:28 to 7:48 must have got distracted by my work!
When it comes to Porsche specific refurbishment I would love to know if they colour match the plastic centre caps or repaint them. If they are repainted, what about the Porsche crest emblems ?
We ended up having to get these magnesium alloys refurbished at a specialist magnesium refurb place. They got "measles" after a couple of months. It was a really involved job. It's usually just easier to buy new centre caps. You can mask out the emblem and paint the silver but if there's any deterioration of the crest buy new.
Very interesting video. Was surprised that the guy applying the powder did not need to wear a mask.
It's not for me to tell people how to run their workshops. Could have been because we were filming quickly or else because of the air flow in the area.
@@911virgin8 All sorts of reasons, looked like an air flow cabinet of some kind.
@@93455Driver It is a waterfall air extraction system designed to draw excess spray away from the person.
another great vid, its a shame that due to noise you didnt go through the process while he explained it. I assume your wheels were at the end all finished?
Hopefully the video clips follow the dialogue. You have to appreciate it's a working environment with noise, heat and moving machinery not designed around filming. The guys were also busy at work rather than performing for the camera. I really struggle with the audio at the best of times, it's the one element of these videos I'd love to improve. Yes, the wheels at the end were my 964 RS alloys looking a lot better than they did,
Thats some processing!
There's a massive amount of work & expertise that goes in for the money.
Interested in understanding how they refurbished the centre caps. Presume they hand paint the Porsche crests?
They were done by hand to finish the job off just because that's the kind of guys they are !
Great Video, what sort of cost are a set of 911 wheels going to cost?
It will depend on the wheels and ultimately a case of contacting Bespoke Alloys directly but in extremely crude terms budget a hundred pounds per wheel for a standard alloy.
@@911virgin8 Cheers, good value I think given the process they go through
@@davidarmstrong5479 Definitely, there's a lot of work involved.
Excellent wheels that are so fragile...
What could possibly go wrong 🤔
💷💴💵💸💶💰
They aren't too bad in terms of fragility. You just need to take care when refurbishing.
That chap sounds just like Tom Hardy! Great video tho.
He's a good looking guy. We'll take that !
