Same for Angola… I worked there, and yes, Luanda has been considered the most expensive city for expats in 2017 (if I’m not mistaken)… Luanda still expensive (even basic stuff in the supermarket is all imported from other countries and cost a fortune there) but as soon as you start moving outside of Luanda, you start to find cheap and natural local foods (which was made of local grown corn, chicken, fruits, vegetables, etc.)

Oil companies rent them for their expatriate staff and these units have been only built for this purpose as the locals live in moreorless slums. Also these apartments are very bad quality like Chinese social housing but you pay for the 24/7 armed guards , having running water and electricity .
I lived half of a year in Greece and it's not expensive, in many aspects it is cheaper than many other countries especially in western Europe. Only the most touristy and well known place like Santorini or Mykonos are that expensive.

In winter the whole island is yours and you can go to Tavernas and have 8 euro pastitsios that can be easily two meals in other places. The reason for switzerland is not that goods and foods needs to be shipped. The real reason is that we practice a protective policy on our agriculture meaning that most of the food consumed comes from switzerland so more expensive

Greece is only expensive if you go to the very touristy islands. If you go the more underrated, under explored parts of the country, it's much less expensive!

Some Greek islands are expensive. The capital Athens and mainland Greece aren't really. Athens is cheaper than Paris, London, Barcelona, Rome for example.
Mykonos and Santorini are the most expensive islands. But other islands are not and quite beautiful. Try places that are not high tourist areas.

Even at Santorini, a fancy meal with unobstructed view of the caldera cost me only 60€, which is on-par or cheaper than many western / northern European countries.
