Prices have dropped enormously since I last looked into this type of system--they started at $6000 back then, and as a hobbyist there was no way to justify that. But the movements make such a difference for product (and presumably food) work! The RB/RZ67 and Fuji's GFC680 were phenomenal, but this combination looks to be even better. Congratulations and enjoy your new tools!
Great setup! I believe you can use the T shutter speed setting on the lens to open the shutter and stop down the aperture if you want to, instead of taping the DoF Preview lever. But both work!
Brilliant set up! I also use an Actus and, as well the focus control, I find particularly useful the ability to use the rise/fall/shift movements to expand backgrounds for clients (specially when an image requires multiple crops!).
Been using the Novaflex BalPro with a Schneider lens for a few years now, the best 'lens' I ever bought, I use it for practically everything, even if not playing with focus, I'm always using the shift to adjust composition. Look forward to seeing more video demos on this.
I use the BalPro with the Mamiya lenses including the 110mm f2.8, Novoflex actually make a widget that locks the aperture open to save using gaffer tape.

My 5dsR is still going stong for Architecture - since release day (sneaky tax & duty free purchase) definatly served me well for the money invested in 2014 -15. Colour - Amazing! Perhaps once I have another used copy or a GFX system I am cofratble - think i may explore a portable Cambo setup - for the job - for extreme shifts! Looking forawed to watching your previous & future videos. Cheers
This is the direction I want to go now that I have a Phase One back. Not that I need it for my level of work. I do want to mess around with the Fuji GX680 and all its movements and I could get a back adapter for my P1.

Very smart combination of old and new! I used to shoot fashion and editorial on the 67 with those lenses. They just worked for everything, I loved them and happy to see someone re-purposing them.

I really want to learn more about using the Mamiya lenses with a digital camera. How do you get the lens to stop down for viewing and shooting? How do you do the stopdown if the lens doesn't have a dof lever? (like a Pentax 645 or 6x7 lens) This is a great video. Love the camera. Wish I would not have sold my Sinar years ago.

Love this! I wish I knew about this setup before as I already own a set of Mamiya RZ lenses. I shoot with a Sony fullframe and Sony doesn't make any tilt-shift lens. So I bought the "Fotodiox Pro TLT ROKR - Tilt/Shift Lens Mount Adapter for Mamiya 645." It works really well. I use the adapter with the Mamiya 645 80mm and 40mm. The adapter works with Mamiya 645 lenses, because they don't use bellows to focus.

From my own experience thinking that using a full frame lens on a crop camera and enjoying the centre of the lens which is the best part, it turned out that because it concentrates so many megapixels of resolution onto a small piece of glass, it actually amplified the imperfections of the lens causing a softer image than when used on my full frame camera. I'm interested to hear whether this is not also the case in your setup, especially concentrating so many megapixels into such a relatively small area of the lens, much more of a difference than my crop/full frame example?
It's not a relative concept. It comes down to fixed size. When you cram crazy megapixel density onto a sensor, things get trickier. The glass has to be higher quality. And it can be on crop sensor lenses, for much cheaper than a full frame lens because the size of the elements is smaller to project a smaller circle. Canon's old EF glass was designed at the optical quality needed for 12-30MP full frame cameras, projecting a larger image circle but at slightly less optical quality considering the lower megapixel density. I personally own the Canon RF 28-70 f/2 and an EOS R5. I originally was using an RF 24-105. The 24-105 is sharper than the EF zoom lenses, but the 28-70 completely blows it out of the water. It renders detail on my 45 megapixel sensor that is positively mind-blowing that the cheaper zoom turns to total mush. It is so extremely pin sharp at 1:1 that it is obviously engineered for the upcoming 90-100MP R5s that will be coming out some time this year which will have the pixel density of a 35.1MP APS-C camera, if it's 90MP and not 100. That is crazy pixel density. What is even crazier is the $3,000USD I spent on this lens. For that optical quality. So the point is, optical quality that can handle heavy crop factor is absolutely attainable for lens designers. It's a matter of cost vs quality. What quality is NEEDED for the cameras it will be used on? When the original 5D was the going Canon, a $3,000 zoom lens that can resolve 100MP on a full frame sensor was unimaginable overkill. But times have changed. And more to the point of this, it would be far easier and cheaper to retain good quality cropping a medium format image circle to full frame than cropping full frame to crop sensor, considering how physically smaller crop sensor is compared to full frame, glass quality staying the same.
Hello from Greece! I've done something similar for 5-6 years now using Sony mirrorless cameras and Rollei X-Act II with Hasselblad CF 120mm macro lens and Novoflex adaptors. Ac adaptor for no batteries and manual focus of course. All were bought second-hand in very good condition at a cost of less than 2.500€. Cambo is a very good system, but it does not have a very wide range of movements. I think Rollei x-act is better but maybe you are not interested in having more movements and also the body is definitely a bit bigger.
Nice setup, it should really increase your creative options and seriously improve workflow. Back in the day, (when I was a Photographer in the Royal Air Force) we used MPP and Linhof 4x5 cameras specifically because of the movements it allowed us to use, we didn't need the resolution as our prints were rarely bigger than 8x6 but the ability to take advantage of the Scheimpflug principle was key for all our technical photography. I owned a Fuji GX680 II for many years and would make use of the tilt/swing options for creative portraits so I appreciate what these types of cameras can open up for you. I hope it all works out for you.
Thank you! Very informative. This may also have an application for the stop motion we do. The downsides are worth the upsides for sure. I saw one review that mentioned the tilt and swing measurement points do not line up with the arrows but hopefully they have fixed that. I'm waiting for a new release from Cambo to use with my Fuji GFX100s, Teamwork Digial in London are highly reccommended for these products and they also offer try before you by deal and rental.
I'm in the mind to change from the Hasselblad HTS to the Combo then found out as the X1D will use the electronic shutter it will not fire the flash units .

Your only focal lengths moving forward will be a 35 Canon and 50mm Sekor? I'd keep at least the 90mm TS but maybe you'll be replacing it with another Sekor 🤷♀️
Looks nice. But... How do you compose the shot? Do you use something like Canon's EOS Utility to preview and focus on a large screen? I you do so, why is using an SLR / DSLR important? With my Canon EOS 750D and the EFS-S 60 mm Macro lens, I always use Live View on the camera or on my PC monitor.
Just look through the viewfinder as usual. Or live view on the back. No you dont have to use a DSLR, but I cant afford a CMOS 645 back for my daily shooter so this is best bang for buck.
Brilliant, sometimes you just need to customize the gear that helps you create the images you see in your mind. It reminds me of my last medium format system, the RZProII.

I was able to use Cambo.com configurator (www.cambo.com/en/configurator/?cboid=84318) to see what parts I would need. Not an easy to use website, but it worked. They don’t sell their products on the site. Not sure what retailers in France have their products, but in the USA I was able to find all the parts on B&H Photo.
We've been offering Mamiya RB/RZ adapters ever since the Actus has been available. In fact longer, as the Ultima and X2-pro cameras were also available with RB/RZ mounts. Big image circles and good value for money.

@@newnastyn Both the X and the GFX system can be used. The Actus in the video is an Actus-B. It's the version introduced in 2014 for use with all DSLR and mirrorless cameras available at that time. Actus-DB2 (for digital) backs and Actus-GFX were added later. The latter is the most versatile version, as the top part of the rear standard is detachable. It can be changed for another bayonet holder within seconds. Which is convenient when you're using more than one camera system. Distributor in France is M.M.F. Pro (Pantin, near Paris). They support a national dealer network.

Thank you for making this video. I already have a 5DSR and a couple RZ lenses, the 65mm and 150mm. I never thought about marrying them together in this way. I have a 90mm tse lens on order from Canon right now for product photography. One question I have for you. How close of macro focus are you able to achieve with the cambo using the included bellows and rail? I'm wondering if the stock bellows and rail would give the same 1:2 level macro as the 90mm tse. If so maybe it would be a better deal to go with the cambo. I saw they charge a lot for the longer bellows and rails so it could add to the overall cost of the system.

Wait Scott, so, everyone in the wild interweb says that you need a mirrorless to use with any monorail system -- because of the deep flange distance problem on a DSLR camera, but you have actually used a 5Ds R for what, like 2 years for professional work with the Cambo before getting your mirrorless body with the upgraded Cambo? Am I missing something here?! Did you ever experience any of the deep flange issues that everybody on every forum talks about?

But this is still not the full technical camera. Cambo Actus has much more control over focus. Rear standard movements are very very limited on this. This is more like a field camera
Do you feel the Cambo Actus system using a Canon 5Dsr and Mamiya lenses like you use, would be a good system for landscape photography. I have the 5Dsr, and have been shooting 4x5 film cameras for years. Actus a good replacement for my large format 4x5 field camera system? I do not understand why today's photographers do so much talking on money. Lower the blinds at your back and put some more light on the Cambo. Go for a close up of your demo camera and show the movements by thetering on a 50% split left/right monitor image. In 1965 you could do the same with all analogue optical bench cameras and the flat bed cameras made by SINAR, Linhof, Plaubel, ARCA and IFF, Optics made by Zeiss, Voigtländer, Schneider, Rodenstock and Meyer.

We've been offering Mamiya RB/RZ adapters ever since the Actus has been available. In fact longer, as the Ultima and X2-pro cameras were also available with RB/RZ mounts. Big image circles and good value for money.
@@cambofotografischeindustri3415 Thanks for the reply. I'll look again, my before was many years ago. The was no way to adapt to the x system then, I believe. I'm saving for a gfx now, and this would be great if workable.
@@newnastyn Both the X and the GFX system can be used. The Actus in the video is an Actus-B. It's the version introduced in 2014 for use with all DSLR and mirrorless cameras available at that time. Actus-DB2 (for digital) backs and Actus-GFX were added later. The latter is the most versatile version, as the top part of the rear standard is detachable. It can be changed for another bayonet holder within seconds. Which is convenient when you're using more than one camera system.

Thank you for making this video. I already have a 5DSR and a couple RZ lenses, the 65mm and 150mm. I never thought about marrying them together in this way. I have a 90mm tse lens on order from Canon right now for product photography. One question I have for you. How close of macro focus are you able to achieve with the cambo using the included bellows and rail? I'm wondering if the stock bellows and rail would give the same 1:2 level macro as the 90mm tse. If so maybe it would be a better deal to go with the cambo. I saw they charge a lot for the longer bellows and rails so it could add to the overall cost of the system.
You can go so macro the item touches the front element of the lens.

Would this setup work well for deep DOF, foreground to background, left to right tacksharp roadside landscapes? I want to find a good lens to use with my Actus setup for narrative tableaux portraits in landscape!

Cambo Actus great, great idea! Tryn to shift to that system for arch photography with my D810..... But wich lenses? An old Super angulon? Old Mamiya? Or th "Actar" from Cambo?

Wait Scott, so, everyone in the wild interweb says that you need a mirrorless to use with any monorail system -- because of the deep flange distance problem on a DSLR camera, but you have actually used a 5Ds R for what, like 2 years for professional work with the Cambo before getting your mirrorless body with the upgraded Cambo? Am I missing something here?! Did you ever experience any of the deep flange issues that everybody on every forum talks about?
Nope, never had an issue haha. I’m sure technically it can happen, but in reality I’ve never seen it.

But this is still not the full technical camera. Cambo Actus has much more control over focus. Rear standard movements are very very limited on this. This is more like a field camera
Do you feel the Cambo Actus system using a Canon 5Dsr and Mamiya lenses like you use, would be a good system for landscape photography. I have the 5Dsr, and have been shooting 4x5 film cameras for years. Actus a good replacement for my large format 4x5 field camera system? I've heard it's difficult to focus to infinity with the Cambo Actus system. True? Thank you for considering my questions! Bruce

I do not understand why today's photographers do so much talking on money.
Lower the blinds at your back and put some more light on the Cambo.
Go for a close up of your demo camera and show the movements
by thetering on a 50% split left/right monitor image.
In 1965 you could do the same with all analogue optical bench cameras and
the flat bed cameras made by SINAR, Linhof, Plaubel, ARCA and IFF,
Optics made by Zeiss, Voigtländer, Schneider, Rodenstock and Meyer.
