One of the best demos of the ceramic Blackouts. Excellent. I'm a big EMG 81 fan but these rock.

@@RobertWJackson Seriously. It's a very solid demo. Most demos of these pups involve senseless downtuning. "The Trooper" is a great riff to show what these pups can do. BTW, how is the battery life with these? I've never owned Blackouts or LiveWires and battery life is very good. I change the 9 volts with EMG sets every four or five months so it's not a big deal for the tone I get. I change strings once every two months or so. I haven't broken a string in years. I used to break them all the time in the 80s when I used Floyds. I stopped using Floyd's in '89 and I can count the number of strings I've broken on one hand. I use Ernie Ball 9-46, usually their Cobalts. My backup strings are D'Addario XL in the same gauge when I can find them. But prefer Ernie's. I tend to find one thing that works and stick with it. I love gear as much as anyone but if a Peavey sounds better than a Marshall, I get the Peavey.Tubes are a must, but beyond that I'm very open minded about amps. Have you tried the Mustaine Live Wires? I'm curious about them. I found one good demo, but it's still a bit too produced sounding, too Garageband for my taste.

Battery life on the Blackouts is very similar to that of EMG’s. As far as the Mustaine Livewires, even though they’re active, they’re surprisingly very low in output. I actually didn’t care for them at all. They just didn’t have any balls to them for my taste.

How are you getting a clean tone with these? I have a new Jackson Rhodes with these and the clean sound is awful.

      Must be your amp.

      I wouldn't call that a clean sound.
They sound like hot garbage in this video.

Personally wouldnt say the blackouts are brighter then EMG. To me they have a lot ooomph to the sound and body. They dont feel anywhere as compressed as EMG also, Ive just got a BC Rich mocking bird with Gus G blackouts and they're great also

+Aaron Mifsud EMG’s are so flat-sounding to me. Blackouts have a lot more character to them.

I like SD Blackouts better than Emgs because of their brighter tone and better dynamics. Many people like the JH set better than the Emg regular sets because their better clean sounds but I think they're overpriced and that's something you get with the Blackouts from so many years (without cleaning them every time you play your guitar). Thanks for the video and I appreciate the fact you are playing on a small amp.

Nice work bro, I was like 9 comments, wtf. But it was 5 years ago. You are legend Rob. Also you are prob one of 2 or 3 guys on UA-cam I pay any mind when it comes to gear. Thanks for all the videos and the clever crap in the intro, sponges in the sea, pasta anti pasta, etc. Always makes me laugh and I always reuse! You are the king of amps in my opinion, I don't own it yet but I'm getting a Randall head in you honor. Again, thank you Rob and to all your family, thanks for sharing such a great guy. I don't wanna preach, but I'd loved to see you get a little healthier, maybe walking 6 days a weeks and tracking calories? Just wanna see ya on the UA-cam's for years to come. All the best!
