Power is a rate of energy production/usage/transfer. So energy is in Joules, and power is Joules/second. It is analogous to speed and distance. Distance (the analogy to Energy) is in meters, and speed (the analogy to Power) is in meters/second.
The energy power units used get a bit more complicated as we generally state power in Watts (1 W = 1 J/s) and state energy in kilo Watt Hours (kWh) 1 kWh = 1000 W for one hour. But if you do the dimensional analysis, you can see that is consistent with the definitions.
