Functions of the grapple gun:
- Moving the player to a point.
- Picking up objects from a distance.

Extra features:
- Fully playable P2 campaign! Maps which would have previously been impossible with just the grapple gun have been altered to now be possible, meaning you can play through the whole original campaign without (hopefully) any issues!
- Customisability! There are some console commands you can use to alter how the gun behaves! (See below)

Console Commands (usable by typing in the console “script [command]” - no quotes):
SetMaxGrappleDistance(value) - Sets the max distance the gun can reach, when attempting to set a point. (Default value is: 1500)
SetGrappleSpeed(value) - Sets the speed at which the player is pulled towards a point. Can be extremely sensitive to change. (Default value is 1.0)
EnableSparkFX(value). - EXPERIMENTAL. Value can be either 1 or 0, corresponding to enabled and disabled, respectively. Enables the display of a spark effect where a point is sent. (Default value is 0).

WARNING: By default, any custom values these console commands are set to, will have to be set manually on the load of each map. This is due to limitations inside of vscript. To change the values permanently, you have to go inside the "grapple.nut" file in the "scripts" folder, and change the default values inside there.

This is now the recommended way to play Portal 2: Grapple Gun, due to Spplice’s convenient handling of mods.
The google drive version will still be available, for those wishing to use the mod inside of Portal 2: Community Edition, but for those of you who just want to play through the mod in standard Portal 2, please use the Spplice version!

I love how you can just boil this mod down to "What if Portal 2, but without the 'Portal'?" Also does this work with multiplayer? I wouldn't be surprised if It didn't sense that would be hell on earth to implement :/ But yea I'm trying this as soon as I can :)

All that’s missing are the ability to swing around a fixed point, the ability to push away from things, and surfaces that block your grapple

I'm assuming you couldn't rig a rope to connect you to your target, right? If not, try to test this as a gmod mod first, same engine, just some easier tweaking to try first
Surfaces that block your grapple is a thing, check the video, whenever the cross hair is an X, it's not allowed to grapple there
The X shows up when the max range is exceeded, there currently aren’t any surfaces that block you from grappling. :)

0:14 - I love how there were portal surfaces so you could've just used the portal gun but Chell was just like "nah, I'm tired of this thing" and just threw it into the water lol
Considering the way you have to hold a ASHPD is like a a wrist mounted machine gun, that's 100% understandable.
That thing contains a miniature black hole. It's got to be heavy as hell.

Found one, if you grapple to the hole where the elevator comes from you can grapple in there
@@Swix_yt Wondering if you could hit the loading zone in the elevator shaft that way. If so, it should probably stay unpatched. Would make speedruns of this mod extra cool!

The Grapple Gun: A Speedrunner’s Dream
So you basically just took away all the puzzles and challenges that made portal 2 a classic
Found a softlock.
In secret panel at the end if you grapple into a ceiling corner then load into the next map you will clip slightly into the ceiling/wall making you not able to move/grapple out of there.
Interesting. I probably won’t update the mod just to fix this issue (as it seems relatively minor in the grand scheme of things and uncommon to come across, plus I would have to go through the process of reverifying the mod), however if a more game-breaking bug appears I’ll probably add a fix for this at the same time (if I remember lol). Thanks for the report! :)

Hi! If when pasting the files into the folder it asks you to replace anything, make a backup of anything it wants you to replace, then let it replace it :)

also when you first grab the portalgun it only kills the viewmodel, but you also need to kill the held weapon_portalgun, or use the weapon strip functionality
Hi! It should kill the weapon_portalgun aswell, unless it doesn’t do it in the no modified maps version… I know it removes it fine in the normal version though

Found you a bug. If you drop a cube into the goo it's removed from the game. If this cube is removed by the goo trigger while being grappled, the grapple completely breaks.

So basically how Spiderman would solve the chambers.
This actually makes sense in the portal lore. As half life and apeture take place in the same universe, it could be a device designed to compete with black mesa's Zero point energy field manupulator(gravity gun) that makes more sense, becuase, if the gravity gun pulls objects, if you grab a wall, the wall would move towards you in relation to yourself (It gets closer becuase you get closer). So the apeture science grappling gun could be a gravity gun but without a system to lock you in place.
Also, to lift heavy objects with the gravity gun, wouldnt you need to be able to actually lift its weight?
So, the name of the device could be...
