I've been thinking for a while that coming up with a way to convert the animation data from a 3D animation tool into servo controls would be a brilliant way to achieve more natural movement in animatronics, since it's ultimately all slides and pivots in both cases but animators are able to create movement that feels more natural.
THIS IS THE COOLEST THING I'VE SEEN IN MY LIFE!!! Sir, you have my infinite respect! Your attention to detail seems to go largely unnoticed by folks in the comments, which is a shame. You have managed to capture the most important part of Wheatley's design, which is the emoting! I cannot tell you how much joy it brings me that my favorite childhood robot, deemed to be impossible to recreate, has been made real. Like, it is just bonkers how much motion it has! Thank you so much for putting in all the time, effort, and money you have into this project. I couldn't stop smiling and jumping around like a child while watching. It would be really cool to see the whole circle in the middle be able to push forward, as that ads a great deal of emotional expression in the game. I can't imagine it would be anything but incredibly difficult though, amazing work already
If you’re actually going to build a second core with the Mark III design, I vote for it to be Virgil. There’s no other core that stands out like Wheatley in the canon game, and “Portal Stories: Mel” deserves the recognition
I hope you do MK-4 model with implementation of AI techonologies to make him more functional. Like: Voice input -> Speech to text -> AI chatbot -> text to output -> text to speech (Maybe even with Wheatley voice) = You have really funtional Wheatley at home. Also it would be cool if his movement was automated and he would look at you when you speak to him
Woooaaahh, this is so cool!! Wheatley is one of my favorite characters and it's awesome to see him brought to life like this! I know his crazy range of motion in the game is not in any way realistic, but you managed to get so close to that, that's crazy! I could totally see this used in like a high budget movie, the quality is so good! I really love the aperture shutter on his eye, that just adds so much to his expressions, and your puppeteering skills are great, he feels so alive, haha, I love this
The servos did a huge amount. Just look how smooth the results are. Epic project and outcome! I hope one day there's an "easy" way to get any voice you want do do what Alexa/Siri/Google Home does with open source.
I don't know how difficult this could be, but it could be possible to have ChatGPT or a similar AI text program control Wheatley by putting movement commands like "suprised" or "angry" (which would prompt preprogrammed movements) before lines of text that would be fed into an AI voice generator. This way, Wheatley might be able to respond to you talking to him in real time! Just an idea, love the build!
He's beautiful, your pursuit of elegance in his design is utterly commendable. I remember seeing your posts about the earlier versions every time you made a new one. It's great to see such a fantastic version.
Amazing. I think it could use rotation about the thing it is mounted on - in some of the animations from the game, you get "nodding" expressions and I think that could really improve the animations!
Now the big trick, is getting his specific jitteryness in how he 'moves' The Steam points store has several animated core icons that show off what I mean in comparison to a few of them.
WOAH MAN THIS IS AWESOME!! Your commitment and engineering on this project is inspiring! I want to see this running with some Large Language Model trained on Wheatleys personality now and finish bringing him into this world, amazing work!

SPAAAAAAAACCCEEEEEEE!!!!!
SPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
SSSPPPPPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
If you're building another core, it needs to be the other one that ended up in space 100%
SPAAAACE, So much space need to see it all, I'm in spaaaace
Woooaaahh, this is so cool!! Wheatley is one of my favorite characters and it's awesome to see him brought to life like this! I know his crazy range of motion in the game is not in any way realistic, but you managed to get so close to that, that's crazy! I could totally see this used in like a high budget movie, the quality is so good! I really love the aperture shutter on his eye, that just adds so much to his expressions, and your puppeteering skills are great, he feels so alive, haha, I love this

All Aperture technologies remain safely operational up to 4000 degrees Kelvin
The servos did a huge amount. Just look how smooth the results are. Epic project and outcome! I hope one day there's an "easy" way to get any voice you want do do what Alexa/Siri/Google Home does with open source.
Dude, you seriously never fail to impress me with this on going project. I absolutely love this!
Awesome! this just floated across my dash board, last time i seen your channel you were still on the mark1, MASSIVE improvements!
8:42 - This is why you're here.
I remember watching your videos years ago, I'm glad to see you're still at it !
Looks incredible, I was completely blown away how real this looks
11:31 He knows. He knows he's a puppet. But he just switched the roles.😮
This is like the animatronics you see before you get on a ride at Disney World.
Nah this should be an actual product 😂😂😂
Amazing! Might have to build one myself once i finish my portal gun and radio. Been a dream of mine for a long time now
Thanks! Gotta finish those builds then (I need to build my own set too haha)
this is so exciting ive been following the project since mk I and it has already progressed so much, great job
OMG THIS THING IS SO COOL, in all seriousness i love the design of your animatronics, and i hope to one day be as cool as you:)
He's beautiful, your pursuit of elegance in his design is utterly commendable. I remember seeing your posts about the earlier versions every time you made a new one. It's great to see such a fantastic version.
We got Wheatley IRL before GTA 6
It looks so good!!!! You did a super good job :D!
13:27 its really look like real game BUT ITS IN LIFE!!!
outstanding work, mate. Stephen would be proud
Amazing. I think it could use rotation about the thing it is mounted on - in some of the animations from the game, you get "nodding" expressions and I think that could really improve the animations!
And you end the video with a epic 360!! Holy moly, what a awesome build!
Now the big trick, is getting his specific jitteryness in how he 'moves' The Steam points store has several animated core icons that show off what I mean in comparison to a few of them.
Someone is going to break in to your backyard, find a shed and see the entirety of portal made and the lab
Dude! I'm 2:30s in, and you have the LOST 108 minute countdown clock! That is freaking awesome dude!
One of my favorite old builds! (on another channel) I want to make a better version this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary
Sick! If you decide to do it I'll be waiting! @@MrVolt
Absolutely incredible. Really well done video. The time and effort you put into this build is clearly visible. Super entertaining, keep it up!
THAT is a movie prop. When were you gonna tell us you're working on the Portal movie?
I wish!
I love it so much! I just like how he moves around!
0:16 this looks so DAMN COOL!!!!!!!!!!!
WOAH MAN THIS IS AWESOME!! Your commitment and engineering on this project is inspiring! I want to see this running with some Large Language Model trained on Wheatleys personality now and finish bringing him into this world, amazing work!
2:46 ITS OVER 500??!!??!!
I just rewarched the first video two nights ago lol. So glad to see this finally here
What happened to animatronic Glados? You probably said the reasons why you might not work on it for a while or never work on it ever again in an older video but I’m curious,
What happened to the older prototype?
GlaDOS was always trying to kill him and release neuron toxins into his lab, So he ended up canceling the project.
Oh ye I forgot about the segment on the end of that video 😆@@facetubetwit1444
12:12 - 12:13.
У меня после этого мурашки по коже пробежали. Это просто потрясающе!
Надеюсь ваши работы заметят больше людей, так как этого вы и заслуживаете!
♡
Actually someone did it! Hello me!
This is insane. So much effort and the final product is glorious! Great job man
Oh, he’s back from space, I guess I’ve got to send him back now
