Thumbs up for a fellow Marine.
That also explains the attention to detail to clothing and ensuring a strong presentation. And the use of hand gestures, though I was expecting a knife hand somewhere in there.
Love the videos, and it's a big help when you're more used to wearing a uniform than "regular" clothes.

The pants to my old navy suit wore out recently, so I decided to have the buttons on the jacket replaced with horn buttons that I purchased from eBay. I'm going to pick it up from my tailor later this week. I can't wait! I went from having one traditional navy blazer with gold buttons, to having two blazers, each with a slightly different style. I did the same thing when the pants to my gray suit wore out. I used silver buttons. It's a great way to extend the life of an orphaned suit jacket and expand your wardrobe at the same time.

Real Men Real Style Question: Do you consider white mother of pearl buttons a less-formal style button than maybe a dark or medium horn button on a navy blazer?

    • @mattcartwright8272
      @mattcartwright8272 6 років тому

Reggie - i suggest the next time you buy a suit you buy an extra pair of pants. That way you reduce the wear by 50% and you will get twice the life out of a suit. Also, the cut and structure of a formal suit is quite different from that of a blazer or jacket . You don't want to look like that guy that's wearing his business suit jacket with jeans when you're on a hot date on Friday night. You fail on two counts - you look cheap and look like you don't know how to style yourself. Not cool.

I told your advice on buying new pants. Guess what? There's like different cuts and I remember you said something like, "regular fit, straight fit, will look good on you." Relaxed, cowboy boot and I forgot what else are super baggy. I lost 50 pounds I'm still heavy, and it was hard finding jeans that didn't make me look even bigger. Thank you! 🙂

Another option that I use when traveling is to get high quality sweat pants and iron a crease in the front. This works well if you button the blazer to cover the laces at the waist along with a pair of simple black cowboy boots. Just remember to wear a matching tweed flat cap.

I agree, it is the world we live in. It was almost 30 years ago that before going to a night club my friend told me to wear a jacket and tie as it would save us a lot of hassle if we wanted to get in. On arriving we were at the back of a hundred something line of guys waiting to get in. We stood there for 5 minutes or so before a doorman came along and directed us to go in. It was from then on that I realised that appearance really does matter.

Hi Dimas. I like a lighter shade of charcoal with jeans ... especially in autumn and winter. Also mine has a subtle herringbone pattern. Btw ... I believe charcoal is a 'neutral' color so it should be safe to wear with black or blue jeans.

You can wear skinny jeans with blazer IF it fits and compliment your legs. I myself am tall and slim build I can't wear straight leg jeans because they look to baggy on me. Skinny jeans compliment my legs and they look very fitted, not tight whatsoever.

Just found your site. GREAT look and presentation. Appreciate the GREAT advice, especially on the blazer and sport coat with jeans. I'll be looking into Lee Jeans and what they offer. Question ... I have a real liken for a "cowboy" starched blue jean (Wrangler) with a dress boot (exotic skin) and a blazer / sport coat. I do a lot of public speaking and that look appeals to me. Any advice on how far to take that look? Thanks again for the site. I will be a regular.

since the mid late 70's in nyc ive been wearing sports jackets with jeans it's a casual look that some college students and professor types started with the old tweed or cord and even the houndstooth check it's not rocket science it's supposed to be an indifferent unconcerned look and by the very early 80's most just wore it with a crisp white T' shirt or a black T' shirt and the wild mid miami vice 80's it was the over priced linen blazers that were worn with a T'shirt and leather hurchachies ( sandals)

Don't you think that there is a conflict in formality between button-down shirt and tie? Also between jeans and tie? I would personally leave the tie and just wear an OCBD under the blazer, together with the jeans.

There is a difference between skinny jeans and slim jeans. A lot of mean don't realize this.
Baggy jeans are never in (unless maybe you are 12 years old). Skinny jeans.....those hug your thighs and butt crack.....never.
Slim jeans on the other hand are not too tight and not too loose.....just right.

Real Men Real Style I also have a shirt whose collar spread is small.. so small that if I wear a tie it shows a bit. am I not supposed to wear a tie with these shirts or am I supposed to get a thinner tie or something is wrong with the shirt?

That UT tie you showed was from Vineyard Vines and they make some of the best ties I have ever seen. Very expensive but you know it's top notch quality.

Hi Antonio, I recently bought a navy blue blazer with gold buttons. But I switched the buttons to black buttons instead. Could you pls let me know if it is a good idea, and if it would change the blazer in anyway?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

What black shoes, if any, do you recommend wearing with a navy blazer and jeans?

Great video! Looking smart and elegant, as always! What are your thoughts on adding a vest to the blazer and jeans look? Would that make it too dressy to wear daily? Thank you for the tips, cheers from Brazil!

Charles Santos Yes, adding the vest will potentially make the attire look a bit dressier. :)
