@@thefonzkiss Very silly if you ask me. There is not in between. You will look better with nice jeans and a nice shirt or with nice chinos and a nice dress shirt and nice shoes.
My company is very casual - so the sports coat/blazer and denim really shine. About half the time I walk into a meeting dressed in smart casual I'll be the most dressed up in the room. I find that a well-though-out smart casual look almost always looks better and classier than a hastily and/or ill-fitting formal suit.
Actually I just think suits don't look as good as having a contrasting pant and jacket. I never have. It's why I only wear a suit if totally appropriate or if I have a good reason. Not everyone thinks men look best in a suit.
Thank you for these videos Antonio. I'm 45 and never really paid attention to style or how clothing should fit. I used to, and didn't know, that I looked sloppy but there wasn't much penalty as a practitioner. Now that I have started consulting I'm my industry, I believe that these details will lend well to more success and professionalism. It matters.
Saturday morning RMRS! As someone who stocked up on suits and jackets during COVID (while learning about style from these videos), you can imagine my dismay when that we're now a dressed down society. Still, my go to is a sports jacket, dark jeans, Chelsea boots, and a button down (with a lapel pin and pocket silk). I'm a fan of dressing one level up for the occasion but I've found myself trying to match my team's style level so they don't feel uncomfortable. Although, I do have some employees who are now trying dress up!
The dress down movement seems to be leading to a more sloppy look with every new generation and how they show up at the office. So I applaud those who try and put effort into showing their office team an example to follow or being a standard bearer of good style to emulate.
Dress up! Set the standard. It feels nice, and if they follow your lead, they'll feel nice too! - This is coming from a guy who wore rough jeans and hoodies to work, but now I'm looking to develop personally and professionally and I love it! I used to dress well in my 20s and into my 30s, but then got really sloppy and regret it.
I have to agree with you, Antonio. Boots with denim are the way to go with a sports jacket. We can change the shirt according to the occasion. It's just something that brings the best of both words, rugged and classy like very few combinations are able to do. I live in Rio de Janeiro, so I can only wear this during winter time, and I always feel confident in it. Cheers! ✌🏽
I often do darker denim (generally Levi 513’s) and button downs with tweed and cashmere sport coats. I usually do a Thursday Captain’s boot or a Cole Haan cap toe and something that compliments the sports coat… last time I was told by multiple coworkers and one little old lady who told me I was handsomely dressed at randomly🤷🏻♂️ I think it depends on the crowd/situation. I’ve worked with startups and non-profits, and most recently corporate gigs, but I feel a nice sports jacket and denim can pop if you do your part…
What most people don't understand is that a jacket neck will be destroyed very fast if you wear a tshirt as it will rub directly against your neck. Polo shirt are the smart choice to preserve your investment in a quality blazer.
I think a more rugged jacket, like tweed or corduroy, paired with jeans and boots, is a great casual look. It lets you be a step or two above those who are wearing their jeans with running shoes and a hoodie. And don't forget a nice rugged flat cap, if you're outside.
Nice definition of the difference between Suit, sport, and blazer jackets. I have a couple of pairs of non-distressed charcoal jeans that go with most anything as they're very neutral. Add a belt, boots and a quality plain T shirt, Sport jacket and a Fedora (I'm a hat man) and I'm set for spring/summer.
I have some really dark jeans and a silver-gray sport jacket that work well together if I go with a nice broadcloth shirt. My go-to dress shoes are from Rockport, a brand I chose years ago because their shoes stand up the best to my orthotic inserts.
My wife LOVES me in a light weight ribbed turtleneck, jeans, buff oxfords and a tweed sports jacket with sleeve patches... She calls it my 'Steve McQueen' look... Now I just need that 68' Mustang Fastback and I'm set!!
My favorite jacket to wear with jeans is my blue seersucker, especially for down south. Recently wore it to an outside wedding in NOLA with a gator skin boot.
Thursday I wore a brown with flecks of green Harris Tweed sport coat, heavy green silk pocket puff, complementary herringbone tweed green-brown vest, casual button-down light blue shirt, brown loafers, dark wash jeans. Though 64 I thought the look was quite suitable and I was given three very nice compliments too in the course of the day.
Thankyou for the video. Fashion trends may come and go, but your advice is timeless. Organizing the sea of choice out there so I can decide how I want to look and know If ive hit the mark. Cheers
I am not, personally, a fan of dressing down suits. That's just my personal preference. However, this is solid advice. I would definitely recommend watching this video and heeding the advice being presented if that's the direction you want to go.
I think it depends on where you live. West coast America is very informal dress. NE and even MW America is often much higher dress. Having lived on both sides, I personally like wearing a mixture which dark jeans/black jeans help create.
I wore a sportscoat and dark blue denim jeans to my nephew's wedding. I wasn't part of the wedding party, and I wore it with a pair of Thursday Captains and matching belt.
great video. I love the look sport jacket with nice jeans. i personality where it at work. i am a mechanical engineer so I can where the jacket with a shirt in the office and just the jeans with shirt, roll up the sleeves if I have to go down in the machine and get things done.
I like wearing a sports jacket with jeans, but am never keen on wearing a navy blazer/sports jacket with dark jeans as the colour looks too similar. I far prefer a mid grey sports jacket with dark jeans; I just like the colour contrast more.
I really like sports coats with elbow patches (same fabric/color as the main material, NOT a contrasting color) and patch pockets. They tend to be less stuffy and go really well with dark denim. Wearing this for a nice Thanksgiving dinner in Las Vegas.
I think that the combination works fine, but it’s not something that I usually wear. When I wear a sports jacket I will wear some dress trousers and when I wear jeans I’ll wear a casual jacket like a safari jacket, jeans jacket, leather jacket or over shirt 🙂
For me if I'm going to wear a sport coat I may as well go all the way and wear slacks with it.More comfortable and more color options. But i agree with Antonio that boots look great with jeans 👢👖.by the way I like that jacket your wearing Antonio.👍
I have a charcoal suit separate that I wear with a black v neck and back chinos, and yes all skinny fit. Inwesr it for music gigs so I can get away with more.
Black Denim for sure. Thanks for the video Antonio! By the way if you were to own only 2 sport coats which would you choose? It's hot out here the majority of the year so thanks for recommending Linen but for Winter I'm thinking perhaps a Tweed and a Flannel. I also have a Herringbone shawl collar sweatshirt which is a nice alternative to a sport coat. Hope you're enjoying your weekend.
I wear my Suede Sport Jacket and Jeans to go to the Theatre here in the South. Live Theatre is no longer the dress up occasion it used to be. I see some younger people wearing jeans and a hoodies and I cringe. Live theatre is a special occasion and you should try to dress up at least a little.
Excellent vid Antonio.🧥 I'll admit, I've broken the boot-cut rule myself a number of times. 😄 Really like that v-neck cashmere sweater overtop a collared buttondown look underneath a jacket. Am I correct in pressuming that the sweater shouldn't be significantly brighter than the jacket in a casual setting? I feel like yellows, neon green, orange, even a bright blue might take away from the ensemble. Like trying to cover up a traffic pilon. 😆
It would be great if you could shows how to wear a sports jacket with checked trousers as these are common this time of year and all sports jacket videos seem to be geared to wearing them with jeans. Anyway thanks for the great uploads!
There should be an app or something where people can send photos of their suits, blazers, and/or sports jackets and you can advise them on Do’s and Don’ts about coordinating.

And when I hike I like to wear heavy wool such as the Prussian, Weimarer Republik or NVA uniforms but the pants have different color so it doesn’t look so uniformly, and I also like to wear German marching boots/ Schaftstiefel since Germans wore it occasionally in casual events such as hiking. I don’t like brown dress shoes, because German menswear has more black leather
I need some serious help! My wife and I are attending a conference for her work in the UK in a month and the attire is to be “smart casual”. I know nothing about this since my everyday attire is usually stonewashed jeans and a sweatshirt. Thus the reason for watching as many of your videos as possible. Love them by the way. I have already purchased a couple of dark wash Levis jeans (tapered and straight leg), some medium brown dress shoes and belt to match and a lot of button down shirts in all different colors, but I am still clueless as to what type of sport coat. I understand that a tweed or herringbone may be best, but what color? Can you wear a grey jacket with brown belt and shoes? Should I be looking for a shade of brown instead? Any help would be appreciated.

LOL, in the 70's we wore Corduroy blazers with hoodies underneath before the jean jacket /hoodie combo.
Would a black blazer with some sort of denim work for a funeral?
A sport coat with jeans and a polo or tee has been my go to Friday night outfit for date night with my wife for years.

Wow, I noticed a little culture shock here.
In Germany after jeans become available in other colours than blue, I would say its the most common pants that everyone wear.
Pants you see in germany:
-Jeans => over half of the people you see on the street or at work wear them (in dark colors accepted in opera and theatre)
-Leggins => people, who like it more comfortable then Jeans (most of the time in disguise as Jeggings)
-sweatpants => common on the street, less at work
-suit pants => in combination with the suit
exotic:
*Chino -pants- shorts => you like to wear something other than jeans and it is summer
*cord pants => you hate convenience and go for the snob-look
Do you wear a pocket square or not? If you wear a pocket square what do you pair it with if you don’t have a tie?
