    There are different ways or techniques to customize car door-panels. I show in this video one method to do 'raised door-panels' and how with some patience, 'worn and torn panels' can be restored to new life.
    I hope these ideas be helpful to my interested users.
    Cesar

    I had a friend once whose dad told him, " every time a man dies, a library closes". I came to realize that we each hold a very specific amount of skilled knowledge that in the past was a shame that it could not be reached into once we walked into the great beyond. Here on UA-cam, visually seeing your work, reading your notes and hearing your voice, on how to do something that to many of us is very complex is like looking into your library of knowledge. Thank you for being generous with your time, your patience and your willingness to share your skills with us. I hope that you know, even when we don't comment, to say, "thank you Master", that you know, that among us are very grateful people that find your library very full, very colorful and very interesting. You have inspired me to be better than I am in many ways. This video translates itself so far into 8,699 hours that we as your audience spent watching you teach. Imagine what effect you have on the world with the total of your good works. And with you posting your skills here, the library is never closed. Its a great honor to sit at your side and watch and re-watch your work. Thank you.

      In my country (Mexico) all the people are jelous to share knowledge that I have to learn the hard way by ruin materials/breaking needless/wrong thread/adjusting the sewing machine. Now I spend a few hours a week watching the tutorials frm Cechaflo. I have improved myself and the quality of my work.
      Thank you !

    Hello Cechaflo,
    I want to begin by saying that I love your attention to detail, in ALL of your videos, so needless to say, I am a HUGE fan!! And THANK YOU!! I have VERY few videos posted on my own channel, and I’ve been encouraged to post more by friends and family, mainly because I love to explain things, and in the Custom car/Truck building & Restoration world, very few builders have the same mentality as I do, where, from the start of a build, to the finished product, I’d prefer not to be reliant on anyone else to get the job done, you never know if you’re going to receive exactly the end product you had imagined, and everyone’s taste is slightly different, so, from tear down, to metalwork and custom fabrication, to body and custom paint, to engineering and custom interiors, I do it all myself… Although it takes a considerable amount of time, to me and the gratification I receive, and piece of mind, it’s well worth it! I have watched MANY of your videos, and you are definitely a master of your craft which I could only hope to be a fraction as talented as yourself, but I give it my best shot!
    One question I wanted to ask you, is I noticed in this video, compared to the tutone Double stitch relief you made another video on, that the raised portions appear to be 2 different types of material? I am just going for a simple pattern and a few low reliefs on the face of the door card, So the material you used in this video looks like a type of semi-rigid 1/4” thick stiff insulation, but I wondered if a light and dense closed-cell foam or rubber might work for the same effect?

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  Рік тому +2

      Hello Mark, Thanks for your kind comment! Regarding your question, in this video I used a 1/8" thick, shoe's insole cardboard. The same kinda soft cardboard I used in this other video: ua-cam.com/video/IF5qL9vAzhQ/v-deo.html
      The other material I used in another video is called Eva foam 1/4" of an inch thick.
      It is kinda soft but at the same time sturdy.ua-cam.com/video/cxipk2Vs10I/v-deo.html

    I really like this custom panel effects, your attention to details is very inspirational to me. I worked as an auto trimmer in my youth ( long time ago) often rebuilding door panels for classic cars, this type of work was always very satisfying to do and look back on.
    I would like to ask why did you not use a "roller" that's the same width as the gap needed ( you need a few rollers in a set) and also guide the roller with a long steel ruler to ensure an exact pressure and straight press.
    Perhaps even press and weight and leave a wooden panel in the recess overnight could create a sharp line.

      These cardboards should have 3 to 4 mm thick. I do not recommend the cardboard I used in the video because it could warp. I used it for the demonstration. You should use a water proof cardboard. Greg shows us in this video the right cardboard for real car door panels:ua-cam.com/video/sYXnNzB4pxw/v-deo.html

    • @Cechaflo
      @Cechaflo  9 років тому

      I'm using a 'yellow glue/cement/adhesive' most of the upholsterers, shoemakers and leather artisans use. This glue comes in cans or glass bottles...you could get this glue at the hardware store or section in Walmart, Home Depot, etc. There are also upholstery suppliers, such as Tandy Leather, etc. where you could get this stuff. I can get this yellow glue at any hardware store in a corner of my neighbourhood...here, in Mexico.

      The yellowish glue/contact cement or adhesive is the one most of the upholsterers, leather artisans and shoemakers use...I bought it in cans and apply it by using a spatula or brush...I can get it in hardware stores, Walmart, Home Depot, upholstery suppliers, etc...there are different good trade marks...try to get a good one.

    What glue are you using and how long does it stay so you can work with the material?? I have a 1935 Hupmobile which has mohair and was wondering if the glue would seep through to the front and ruin the material?? Plus it is a more intricate design. thanx Pg

    • @Cechaflo

      Philip Giacomantonio I'm using a yellow glue which comes in cans or bottles...it's pasted with a brush both surfaces and let them dry for a few minutes (10 -15 min)...the glue is 'ready' to stick when it does not stick to your fingers.
      I have never worked with 'mohair'...If you are going to glue this material, do some tests before to make sure is useful.

      Philip Giacomantonio After the 'glue drying time' the 'soft cardboard pieces' are immediately attached to the 'hard cardboard'...the cardboard strips without glue are removed.
      The attaching of pieces is really forever...the sticking is very strong.

      @@claudiucoldea6379 I understand now. Are you thinking in sticking the fabric directly to the cardboard base?
      There are two ways of glueing application: the first way is by using a brush and using a 'brushable yellow glue'. This glue is kind of viscous. The other way is by using a 'painting gun' for glue application. This glues is a special very 'fluid yellow glue' for the 'painting gun'.
      In this video I use the 'brush method':ua-cam.com/video/coueKGKYlds/v-deo.html
      In this other video I show the 'painting gun' method:ua-cam.com/video/Y8FfRBY4LtQ/v-deo.html You could see in latter video I have stuck the 'fabric/thick velour' over a 'foamed back headliner' as a base. The fabric was not glued down directly to the cardboard base. The fabric should not be porous to avoid the glue passes through to its right side.
      To clean the old glue gently scratch the cardboard surface with a brush.

      +Adrian Esparza Si la 'piel automotríz' va a ser de un color en especial, entonces una 'tenería' es lo indicado para que la fabriquen...en Periférico 1371, entre Calzada Independencia y Belisario Dguez., se encuentra la tenería Peltto peltto.com/
      Además hay tres tiendas que venden piel automotríz, ubicados entre la 34 (Esteban Loera), Alvaro Obregón y Javier Mina...creo que el indicado,porque tiene mas variedad, es el que está sobre Alvaro Obregón, antes de llegar a la esquina de la 34...lo atiende el Sr Paco Roan. Si vienes del centro por Obregón y das la vuelta a la izquierda en la 34, vas a encontrar una tienda de artículos de tapicería que se llama el Reloj...casi exactamente al frente se encuentra otro local que vende piel para carro...lo atiende la Sra Martha Esparza.
      Espero que esta información sea de utilidad.
