So I want to thank you guys. I hadn’t heard of lake street dive before you guys, and now I am at a show in cleveland on a Tuesday night. Timing couldn’t be better. Appreciate you pointing out an artist not on my radar. They are fantastic.
What I like most about my own creative process is developing a germ upon a style-confined riff and then letting it simmer as I develop the arrangement(without vocals) - for years, if necessary. What I like least is...same as the above. Developing a vocal germ removes the constraint of key until I try to sing it. That revisit usually requires re-writing lyrics. Then I'm into poetry land. Timelessness shouldn't be rushed.
The luxury of creating, and then setting aside, tempts one to externalize and I greatly prefer to internalize. So, I continue within the analog realm. Creatively producing at a snail's pace is my comfort zone.
I love your playing styles and your voice is so beautiful. Of course I have listened to your solo stuff. The funky, groovy, soulful tunes that come out of you guys are my favorite. The tightness of the dynamics. Hypothetical. Come back to Philly.
Hell yeah, I toured, and flew as a FOH engineer with an upright player who had a Chadwick folding bass. wherever we went there was sure to be a conversation with a local tech or whoever about what the heck that thing was :P
I'm currently holding onto the idea of "finding" a drummer and bass player duo who will listen to my pieces and provide creative ideas within their comfort zones - as basis for preforming live.
Great guest!! As a bassplayer (bassguitar that is...) I certainly feel quite some extra love for her instrument! I’m always a little bit envious about people who have the ability to actually play great music on that Godzilla-fiddle. I did not know of her band, but I’m going to check out their music. 🖖
Elton John would binge create and self critique, immediately rejecting whatever didn't come together quickly. Few posses those abilities within one mind. Or, maybe he just isn't in there alone.
It’s always irritating to see you turn your backs at each other. This way you both look outside the frame. Just try to swap places inside the picture… Apart from that: keep on going. Mostly entertaining. Cheers from Germany!
Very cool interview, Bridget is amazing, both as a musician and as a songwriter
Never would have expected her to be a guest on this podcast, but damn that's cool! Been a fan of Lake Street Dive for YEARS!

What a great way to start the week! Love Bridget's songwriting. Looking forward to this.

I’m glad to see Zooey Deschanel still playing music. All kidding aside, I loved hearing a focus on bass.
I saw Lake Street Dive awhile back in Bethlehem PA, Bridget is a beast of a bass player, great band.

Been playing D&D since I was 8yo (35 now). If you'd have told me growing up D&D would become somewhat mainstream again I would have never believed it!

I slipped into her DM’s just to say as a fellow bass player. How much I love her lines. She never responded. 😢

Going to Nashville with my wife this summer. She is well aware that visiting guitar stores will be a good part of the trip :)
D&D nerd checking in
I am a guitarist and D&D nerd, and a fan of Lake Street Dive, this is ticking a lot of boxes for me!
Faith in guitar content restored!

She's too modest - great player and writer. I think she teaches songwriting at Princeton.

Smoke a joint and relax. You sound high maintenance.
One guy asked a specific question and she doesn’t answer it, so the other guy asked her the question again. She still doesn’t answer it. Haha
