That gesture of pressing the back of an elder's hand on a younger person's forehead is also a Filipino custom signifying respect. I'm pleased to discover that it is also a practice in East Timor, a mainly Catholic country like the Philippines.
East Timor and the Philippines have a lot of similarities; 1. Both countries are made up mostly of Austronesian people, with a sizable amount of darker-skinned Australian-Melanesian looking type of people (in the Philippines this would be the Negrito people) 2. Both countries were colonized by Iberian countries for hundreds of years, Spain and Portugal, prior to being conquered again by another larger country, the United States and Indonesia respectively 3. Both Countries are Christian and majority-Catholic, just as you say, but also both countries have both a European and an Austronesian languages as official languages; in East Timor you have Portuguese and Tetum (but also knowledge of English is pretty good) while in the Philippines you have English and Filipino (but also many people have a working level of Spanish still) With all these similarities the countries should form stronger ties, East Timor has a lot of poverty it could really use a friend and partner like the Philippines. Even something as simple as Filipino tourists visiting could help them grow, and for the Filipino tourists East Timor could be a "home away from home".
Such sweet people, such harsh poverty. Someone said of places like this: the country isn't poor, only the people. Hope it changes and thanks for showing us :)
Thank you for showing us East Timor. Beautiful drone views, lovely coffee producing family & Easter celebration crowds. What an amazing travel experience!
Yan how beautiful are the people of East Timor, lovely simple life style, willing to share with even complete strangers, the coffee plantation was interesting,Yan your cross country ride with Flo was very wet at times, but the Eyes of the Golden Eagle captured every nook & cranny, beautiful green pastures & Farms & villages, the Drone work was spectacular Yan I just loved it, Job well done👍I would suggest to get a small all terrain vehicle, if you travel again in this type of tropical climate Yan at least it has 4 wheels and cover, you know it doesnt matter how rich or poor you are,the simple way of life is much better, thank you Yan, Cheers & Best Wishes, Regards to you & Flo, Trevor.W.Bacelli. Back then when Timor Leste was part of Indonesia, many student from timor leste went to Jakarta and other city to study, unfortunately because of religion and skin colour differences they often face racism. Nonetheless I wish our brother and sister from Timor Leste all the best.
Yah. Wherever you are in the world, be it in Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, the darker you are the lower you are in the hierarchy. It's just the way it is. Thank you.
Timor Leste highlands are in pure natural scenery. Have great fun, stay strong safe healthy with God's blessings. The coffee farm in very friendly with you, they do good business with foreign countries, glad to hear their success.
Love the paddy fields, love the drone shots of the mountains and how green it is, love how friendly people are in this part of the world. If i were to retire now, perhaps this would be the place
Thank you again for such beautiful video post documentary. Such beautiful ppl in Timor. Beautiful hills and mountains. Another hidden corner of the world. I started to cry again watching. You both are such good hosts and beautiful ppl. You relate so well to ppl. Enjoy and love watching. Be safe! Be careful!
You are a Muslim Maori of NZ? Ohh great bro! I am a Muslim from Malaysia..used to be a student in NZ for 3 years back in early 1980s..have visited almost all ASEAN countries, much of Europe including UK, Scotland n Netherlands..also Denmark Sweden Germany Italy.. lastly Sri Lanka. Hope u have a happy life in Aotearoa.
You have the most interesting travel vlogs. I love your channel! Please be safe in your travels and may God continue to bless you and your partner. Thanks for sharing!😊
You looked absolutely soaked on that bike, so I hope you stay healthy. Fabulous views and charming encounters, and it surely can only be a matter of time before a proper TV series...
YES, Australia 🇦🇺 was first in, then New Zealand, Malaysia 🇲🇾 ,Portugal, and some other countries. Indonesia 🇮🇩 was murderous and burnt most 🔥 of the country to the ground!!
Timur Leste (TL) was a Portuguese colony. The people of Timur Leste sought independence from portuguese and Australia supported the independence movement. Australia sent its armies to TL fighting the Portuguese gouvernment, however Indonesia disagreed and sent her armies and invaded TL. However Indonesia left TL after a referendum which the people of TL wanted independence.
East Timorese's very friendly and what a nice trip. By the way, if you guys are back to Indonesia, please consider going to Singkawang, Kalimantan. There you can find many descendants of the miners and traders who came mostly from China many years ago and Singkawang is considered as the Chinese Town.
Menggantikan penduduk asli Nusantara, Negrito Nusantara.
Beautiful scenery, friendly people, sometimes I think, so what if the country is not developed enough? As long as there is peace and stability, it is the greatest contribution to the world! Compared to those developed countries who always want to interfere in other countries' affairs and start wars everywhere, they will only bring disaster to the world!
A mysterious country for me and many others. Thank you so much for documenting this travel adventure. I love the peacefulness and the beautiful nature. Best of all, the people are so hospitable.
nice tga team, I enjoy watching East Timor, look like I myself is with you in the travel. There are places in the Philippines similar to East Timor, I hope that Life will be better or sooner. Goodluck and More Power to your Travel.
Thank you for showing these places and beautiful people from other parts of the world. God bless and more adventure to both of you. I enjoyed watching your channel. Very interesting.❤️😊
Thanks; I'm glad you've put in a good word for the poor people in Timor Leste. Their humility, kindness and hospitality reminded me of my 15 years in Malaya/Malaysia. I was nowhere as poor though. Neighbours opened their doors to strangers. People invited me in for drinks and biscuits even though they had no interest in my Christian door-to door Ministry. If others were to emulate the Timorese, there'll be peace, harmony and tranquility in the world.
While as a Chinese person living overseas, I appreciate your content from the Mainland, videos such as these show that there are beautiful rural places less travelled all over the world. I admit as a resident of the Philippines, a close neighbor, i barely remember East Timor (aa fact not lost on their people when we hosted them poorly during ASEAN games) and I appreciate your video that showcases a country that sadly I will probably never have a reason to visit as a tourist
What lovely people! Thank you for sharing the beauty of this country!! It's very likely that unfortunately the farmers don't get fairly compensated for their coffee :( Unless you visit the farmers and buy direct, or by fairtrade, it's hard to make sure that everyone in the process of creating a product is paid correctly.
I didn't imagine East Timor was so beautiful. Thanks for showing us.
Thank you 🥰
Yes it's a beautiful country
You don't know the bad part of this country I know bcz I live that hallo o halo saida hah koalia nanaran meren
That gesture of pressing the back of an elder's hand on a younger person's forehead is also a Filipino custom signifying respect. I'm pleased to discover that it is also a practice in East Timor, a mainly Catholic country like the Philippines.
I’m Filipino and I noticed that also, wow that’s Filipino customs I’m glad other country practice it.

I was surprised to see that child do that “mano” gesture too! I learn many simple things in her videos

Negara yg tidak tau terimakasih....
Why because of ethnic group? Aren't there numerous other islands with similar people in Indonesia?
Don't mixed the story before and after or vice versa without clear the chronology based. It's blur like blinded man try to see the skies.

We do it in Philippines also we call it Mano (hands on the forehead) to elderl.
Just like also Philippines our children do it.
Alah tolol, sebelum Indonesia menjajah timor timur, udah kayak gitu budaya kami, dasar penjajah.
Aceh, papua, maluku. kalau merdeka!
Kasian Jawa...
We do it, even before Indonesia invade Timor-Leste, in local language "Bensa " greeting to someone you respect
Filipina juga, kalau Austronesia di P Formosa juga melakukan, artinya itu budaya Austronesia, yg sejak 3000sm berangkat dari P Formosa, tiba di Nusantara tahun 2000sm. Menggantikan penduduk asli Nusantara, Negrito Nusantara.

Hello I'm from East Timor
Really appreciate this....
Thank you for showing us the life in East Timor! 👍👍🌹🌹🌹🙏🙏🙏
Fascinating to see how others live.
I'm always curious about Timor Leste because the first time that I heard about them was during the ASEAN game held here in our country. 😊😊
Where are you from?
Thank you for doing this. It expands our view of life, you do a really amazing job of this.
Always watching all your videos. I was inspired and amazed on how you travel to other countries . Awesome

As a prolific drinker of decaf instant coffee ☕️ I'd be banned from the island. I.remember and admired their fight for independence in the past.😊
Happy For journey 👍👌
Beautiful nature
Thanks 👍
0:26 (boy's gesture) children does the same here in the philippines which I find amazing.
The sky is so clear and blue.Wonder what's the climate like year round.?
