- You won't be able to transport 16 feet lumber (2x10x16) easily on any mid size pickup truck #Ridgeline, because the bed isn't long enough. Getting the collapsible hitch mount #BedExtender solved the problem! I will also show you using a fancy product #TitanStrap, it is very fast to tie down small amount of lumber.

Thanks for the resource! I will use this setup to haul a couple of 2x6x16 with my Tacoma 5' bed. The home depot and lumber yard is 2.5 miles from my house. This will work great and save me from renting a bigger truck.

How did it work out?
Remember how long you are backing up to your garage! My load extender doesn’t fold but it appears less sloppy. I’ve hauled 20 foot rebar across a 40 foot ladder for support with my extender. Of course my truck is old school a regular cab with an 8 foot bed. Glad you added a proviso about the load bar for hold down. I have a couple but I wouldn’t rely on one to hold down a large springy load of lumber over potholes or the railroad tracks. In front Another strap is advised under the load, crossing over the top and down to floor anchors.
Wouldn't a better option be an Over-Cab Truck Rack? That equipment doesn't seem safe as most of the cargo weight is beyond the back of the truck.
Over-Cab truck rack maybe a good option for professional contractors I have to agree with you. But for DIY people, the hitch mount truck bed extender isn't a bad idea.
@@DIYable I don't know really, I mean having a load that far away from the rear axle would upset the balance when it comes to weight on the front axle so you can control the vehicle in an emergency.
@@Ben31337l like he was saying a little bit of lumbar won't hurt.. plus the weight is distributed to the tow hitch which can tow 10k to 12k pound boats and trailers.. a little bit of lumbar is nothing. Now if ur trying to load really really heavy sheets or something more of nature probably better to rent a trailer or if ur a professional use the top rack option. I think this works for the weekend DIY warriors

In America, try Harbor Freight for the bed extender. Less than $100 I believe.
HF is great. p/n 69650 For the truck bed extender. p/n 96811 for the ratcheting cargo bar. Get both for a bit over $60 on holidays with the 25% coupon.

Some states limit the amount of overhang to 4 feet so this wouldn't be legal in those states.
That thing wobbles like crazy... I love that it can fold, but I hate that the top piece does not have vertical bars to "hold" stuff inside. IE: Like a foot ball goal post.
na just buy concrete bags and put on top of lumber and strap back

I believe the max legal length is 3 ft. However, O have an 8ft box DS o I would likely get away with the extender and 12 footers.

y'all and your pickups. buy a commercial van with a ladder rack. All that and then some would have fit just fine. Even if you just used a ladder rack it would have fit without 10ft sticking out the ass end. also stop calling your chopped minivan a pickup.

El Camino cant tow heavy boats or trailers or do any 4x4 action but good luck with ur el camino u might be able to fill the back up with water and park it in ur trailer home backyard and use it as a rustic pool for ur weekend hillbilly gang bang parties
