    Another Beginner Friendly tip is to reduce the Game FPS Cap in the Settings to allow a slower paced first playthrough so you can observe and see what your Dwarfs are actually doing. This reduces the Calculation Speed of the simulation so that everything happens at a slower pace.

    • @shawndimery
      @shawndimery Рік тому +6

      Ahh I was wondering if you could change the speed. What fps cap would you recommend? 😊

    • @DanielCoffey67
      @DanielCoffey67 Рік тому +22

      @@shawndimery SalfordSals's older video on DF Classic "Choosing Settings and Generating a World" suggested limiting Game FPS to around 30 for a more relaxed playthrough. Everything still happens in the same order, it just takes a bit longer. It is not the same as the graphics framerate - it can be considered the "Simulation Speed". Increase it up again when you are more confident.
      I also temporarily limit the Fort population to 25 adults and 5 kids until I am settled to avoid huge migrant waves. I can then exit, alter the cap up a bit and continue till I am ready. Consider upping Grazer Coefficient from 100 to 200 for an easier surface grazer experience.

    IIRC the last I dabbled with Dwarf Fortress. I made my stairwell and then moved below the surface. Made a nice Stockpile for everything. Deconstructed the wagon and then went about making workshops a few levels below. Once I had stone slabs, I moved to make a square area in stone on the surface and build up one from the ground. Made some fortifications and a drawbridge after making a 'moat' of sorts.

      A lot of players like to organize their fortress on different levels so that eg one floor is for crafting, one for sleeping/eating, one for growing etc. Also dwarves have shorter distances to walk using multiple levels, as opposed to the entire fortress on just 1 or 2 levels. Digging more levels at the start probably helps remind him to use those different levels.
