    I bought the game, was following along in your tutorial series here and then suddenly giant parakeets showed up and killed my goats. I started moving stuff underground to get away and then as I was moving underground half my dwarves were slaughtered by them. Classic Dwarf Fortress move, losing worse than the Australians in the Emu War.

    Im new to df, I just bought it in steam. I've had 200+ hours in Rimworld so in my first blind "look and feel" run of DF I didnt even last a year. My cat killed a lot of mice so I had dead rats in my kitchen, so I made a refuse stockpile outside. Then suddenly my fisherdwarf mysteriosly died and I had no idea where to put him, so they put him in the refuse stockpile with the rats. One by one my dwarves went cray cray, and may have agitated 3 ibex rams. I forgot to mobilizemy military so my fortress got decimated by 3 ibex rams.
    This game is fun. And thank you for the tutorial. I really appreciate the time and effort, and you explain the mechanics clearly.

    This tutorial is super informative and entertaining Das!
    I love how you sometimes start delving into super deep concepts, and then laugh and chuckle about it since it's beyond the scope of a tutorial (ie 17:07). Really shows you how deep this game is, and your passion for it!

    I tried playing Dwarf Fortress Years ago but couldn't get into it because of the difficulty of the UI but I've picked up Steam version and am loving it. Your videos have been a great help learning the game. You seem so happy to play and share the game too. Your videos are a delight to watch. I've subscribed and look forward to watching more! Thanks

    It's so nice to see how the new version of the game plays; more or less the same, but all the tool tips and organization are really handy. The new graphics are also a wonderful addition. I missed your tutorials and your dwarf fort layouts. Seeing you bringing your wisdom to the new version of the game is a real treat.

    Is the exploit about land and light still true in this version where you can channel down to create a surface farm underground, roof it over and have it still work for surface plants because once a block is lit, it is considered lighted forever?

    Rimworld player here. I've heard that DF has some complex physic interactions. Something players in Rimworld have to be careful about when building underground bases is having support structures to keep the hill/mountain overhead from collapsing into itself (also true for just roofs). Is that something our dwarves need to worry about? That stockpile room is really large, and doesn't have any pillars or anything.
    Thanks for the tutorials.

    • @LudoTechWorld
      @LudoTechWorld Рік тому +2

      In Dwarf Fortress you can have cave-in only if a construction or terrain is completely disconnected so you don't really have to worry about that (yet... If I'm not mistaken it's something they planned to work on later), so you can dig as big as you like. Where physic matters is about fluid essentially (water and magma) with motion and pressure taken into account and you can use this at your advantage for various things (piston (that use intentional caves-in actually), power, fluid displacement...) or flood an all fortress if you're not careful.

    • @tylerbrown9631

      I see. So as long as the earth above isn't levitating (like being purposefully disconnected from its adjacent squares), it shouldn't fall down?

    • @aztekenen1
      @aztekenen1 Рік тому

      @@LudoTechWorld the biggest issue is the water physics imo. and i haven't played enough yet to see if its exactly the same as the pressure system in the original.

    Did you have to place the bins or do the dwarves automatically use them once they are available?

    • @swankyluulia1376
      @swankyluulia1376 Рік тому

      Generally they use them on their own, but you can also assign bins and other containers to specific stockpiles.

    • @MitcyDupres
      @MitcyDupres Рік тому +1

      I generally have a stockpile for bins and things like that. In your other stockpiles, if you click the barrel icon you can set how many bins/barrels/wheelbarrows are allowed (the presets are pretty good, except keep your seeds separate from your food and don't allow barrels). When/if a bin is required, your dwarves will automatically grab one and put it in the store if one is available.

      @@MitcyDupres Is there a way to make them put all the jewelry in one bin/barrel/bag, all the mugs in another, etc? I wanted to take bags of jewelry or cut gems or meals or a few mugs to the trade post to sell, but wound up with a barrel full of misc stuff that I then had to tediously sort through to select what to sell.

    • @MitcyDupres
      @MitcyDupres Рік тому +1

      @@sarah_young if I want to do this I make 1 square stockpiles, and define what can go in there. SO mugs in one, bracelets, rings etc in another

    • @MitcyDupres
      @MitcyDupres Рік тому +1

      @@sarah_young I also try to keep my main stockpile quite a distance from my trade depot, and stockpiles for stuff I want to trade right next to it. All the stuff is then at the top of the list

    Damn, I'll admit I'm actually impressed with this one. Toady really pulled himself together and did a proper release and not Early Access. I was fully expecting "well, sorry it sucks its nowhere near finished cuz its EA lolololol" excuses typical from indie developers who work on stuff for too long. Also, Toady is an infamous leftist spaz and Kitfox shoveling pre-release merch both weren't good signs to me. Nah, I'm trialing a copy I got off the high seas, but I'm really really impressed with what I've seen. I'm gonna get this one over the weekend. $30 is a little steep, but fuckit, good work deserves reward.
