- It's September and fall colors are starting to show up throughout the hills as I travel back and forth to my new job renovating an old ocean-side cottage. We have a lot to finish on the old house before I head home for good in October and we race against time to finish the restoration.

I'm living in the south of Brazil and leaving a big city to live in the mountains. I just want to live a life surrounded by nature, leaving aside the life of the city center. When I watch your videos, I think it was the best choice I've had in a while.

Don’t give up on old blue! That 300 i6 is a legendary engine, very easy to work on, and once you get it fixed and tuned properly, it’ll last for generations. I’d love to watch you refurbish the thing. Sometimes I wish mine would break so I can have an excuse to take it all apart.

Those sunset scenes of the ocean are incredible, Kyle! That cottage foundation was a huge project, but so satisfying. Sorry about your Trooper. Vehicle issues are a pain, but I'm glad you're going to work on the pretty blue truck. The early autumn forest is so beautiful. Loved the wild turkeys!

We went through the same battle regarding a truck. Finally bought a 2018 Toyota Tundra. During the last snowstorm, we were actually pulling people who had F-150s out of ditches and hauling families to the local grocery store. It pulled a huge Winnebago for the last 2 years. It pulls everything and we did not need to get a diesel. We live on 5 acres in the PNW and it really does a fabulous job including taking home a set of goats that wandered onto our property when we lived in Idaho. Happy hunting for a new vehicle.
You will smile my friend. Lost my lifelong best friend last year .my health isn't real good so been reflecting.lots of good times and memories. Don't pass them up. I'm almost 70 and enjoy your vide os. have fun and hope a long life. Oh you have a good woman from what i see.

You find beauty in every season, but I think we all know the fall videos are sublime. Loved the peaceful "amber hours" moments and the rain shots. I finally ordered one of your fall coffee blends and can't wait to wake up on cool mornings and sip. We're not nearly at peak here in NJ yet (I know where the cute coffee shops and best foliage towns are if any of you ever need hints!) Your ending was beautiful and I'm sure your journal entries about the cottage by water are just as beautiful. It all does go fast, but you've found a way to preserve it so you can take it with you. About those birds by the sea - dragonflies do that at this same time of the year at Toledo Bend in Louisiana. It’s surreal.
The gigantic flying bird flocks look like tree swallows. For starlings, they call it a murmuration and I think the term applies to tree swallows also. They don't need to fly to the tropics like other insect eaters because they've adapted to eating berries and some plants. They'll leave at the end of November or early December and fly south. This is the time of year that murmurations are usually seen.

Don't look at the blow-by on Old Blue's engine as a problem but an opportunity. This is an old engine and really easy to work on. It's just gaskets that need replacing. Think of it as content and reflection. "The Zen of the Engine".
One of my favorite books is "Truck" by John Jerome. In it he talks about rebuilding his 1960 Dodge pickup truck. It was blue and he was from New England (New Hampshire).

I started binge watching your vids three weeks ago in order oldest first and I'm now up to this one😊
I found them when I put 'simple fall cabin getaway ideas' looking for anything I might have overlooked for our upcoming respite to the cabin in N. GA.
We booked a single level 500 sf overlooking acressss of foliage nestled in nooks of the Chattahoochee Forest & the Cohutta Mtns. We're also looking at my parents' hometowns dotted throughout the Smokey Mtns & around Lookout Mtn.
Though there's absolutely no comparison to the Northeast autumns we grew up knowing, this was a beautiful opportunity to reset, refresh, renew, & revisit and/or revise our future plans. There's no comparison to doing all this w a true companion.
The firepit on the wraparound deck was great for marshmallows & snuggling under the full moon as we listened to the last little winged friends darting home to the cadence of the cicadas.
We spent the daylight hours of our days exploring the trails to the waterfalls, using the walking sticks I'd spent the past two weeks carving and curing to surprise hubs😊
We visited little out of the way eateries (we prefer items we usually don't make @ home.) Found an Asian cuisine place that had unique veggy options swirled & chopped, pate, steamed, & roasted in different sauces & soups & wraps, hiking to the highest point (Brasstown Bald), and driving through ever changing canopies of oranges, gold, reds, burgundies, & waning pinks & greens to cider tastings, fresh apple picking, & local honey, then enjoying the homemade gumbo I'd prepared during the week to enjoy once we returned for the night.
Everyday was simply wonderful just taking in the season and making plans for our future...which now include downsizing & putting our energy toward a cabin in the surrounding area. This has become increasingly more attractive as our neighbors' & our own acreage is being encroached upon by more multiple unit housing (220+ already within a 2 mile radius😮) & drilling the granite has already shifted some of our foundations of our homes.
We've gone to board & town meetings, but I guess people don't really care about privacy anymore. We still find it hard to see paying $450k for a parking pad & 2 br compared to low $200k with larger 4&5 bedrooms, character traits, & private fenced wooded lots. To each their own, but there's nothing like natural heat reduction and insulation by my 50 yr old oaks that are well maintained and strong as ever😊

LOVE hearing the word "Tag Sale" lol I was born in Connecticut lived there into my 20's then moved south to Florida and when I used the word tag sale they would look at me and ask what is that ??? I guess they liked calling it a yard sale instead lol.

Regarding the swallows: there's a Hitchcock film about it...
The way I look at it, and I have only had used vehicles, long term, not having a payment is best. I have owned 4 vehicles in my adult life and they have cost me, including the car, around 25k collectively with repairs. Just make the repairs because 6-8k a year for a new car in payments, not including insurance will be far more costly. It may be slightly inconvenient at times, but way cheaper. New cars break too and can be even more costly to fix.

It's been a horrible year for anything mechanical with myself and many people I know, hang in with your older vehicles, the newer stuff can break down too. Just a simple sensor can go and it'll cost far more than what you might pay for something older, personally I think you're doing things right. Best of luck, love your channel and how you film it.
