I remember seeing flight crews and flight attendants from "east" and "west" shouting at each other in the jetways. It was a very contentious merger. After passage of the Mccaskill-Bond Act it didn't get much better.
I flew America West a few times; mainly in between the east and west coasts. It was an ok airline. They did send me first-class upgrades quite frequently. 👍
I remember flying with them from Phoenix to LA in the 80s. Their fare was insanely low for flying , like actually lower than bus fare. It was the Phoenix talk of the town back then.
Hired 7/1/89. Started at DCA, went on to SBA, LAS (for Fast Track Fully-Crossed Training), then back to DCA. Loved every second of my time there.
Hired in 1986 as a Fully Cross Utilized CSR, Class 24 - so many memories!!!
Class 24? I thought you were from Class 1......:)

My dad had worked for America West back then. His first ever flight as a pilot carrying passengers was from Phoenix to Los Angeles.
I flew American West a few times, great little airline. Crews were fantastic!

*Tempe Arizona was the home office not Phoenix and the CMH was expanding via Mesa Air but Sept 11 happened leading to based closer in 2003
I remember flying with them when I was a kid since they were the biggest airlines in Phoenix at the time
I flew with them many times!
Even though "we" bought us air, our seniority got diluted and became worthless.
