I remember taking America West in the early 2000s when I was a kid to visit my grandparents in Arizona. I am autistic and was quite young when I started flying by myself and my family picked them since they were very accommodating for children and those with disabilities.
Back in the early 90’s I few Am West to Vegas from NY with some buds. On the way out of the hotel to the airport I realized I had a $25 chip in my pocket, I walked up to the roulette and put it on black 17, it hit! $925 on my way out of town. Check in at the airport and they had an upgrade to 1st class for $175 on the red eye back to JFK. I took it was going to upgrade my three buds also, but fortunately for me they only had one seat left! My first time in first class, and I loved it. I remember the flight attendant was so pregnant I thought she would give birth over the Rockies, that kid is now 30 years old somewhere in the world!
I worked for HP too. Good Times! Back in the day when CSRs had to know how to manually ticket. No "point and click" back in 1992. I remember when we were one day away from going out of business, and then funding came in at the last minute.
I worked for HP from ‘89 to ‘94 at DCA, LAS, and SBA. Seeing that footage of the low-gate rotunda at LAS (among so many other images) brought back a flood of memories. I wouldn’t trade those experiences for anything.
I only flew America West Once when they started flying from BWI flew them to Las Vegas on the 757 I liked them wish when they merged with USAirways that the America West name would have been kept
The entire industry was different when this happened. We are talking what 15 years later? I think America West and US Airways was a perfect marriage. I do miss America West though!
I used to fly America West as a kid and the early 2000’s, they flew to my little city of Pueblo. I flew first class once on their 757 from Phoenix to Vegas on a night flight first class for a 50 dollar upgrade. Short flight but I had a few free drinks. Only airline I fly now is Southwest.
Mike Conway knew how to run the airline like Elon Musk running Tesla, technically America West Airlines was the Tesla of Airlines back in those times, different approach to a frustrating game especially when Airlines are going out of business left and right.
In 1988 they talked all business...in 2023 they'd be talking strictly about how many people of color, gays, and trans they've hired just for being gay, trans, or people of color. Which one would you want to invest in?

Cross-utilized CSR here from '92-'97 at SFO. Loved that job, loved the people. Brings back memories. Cactus forever!

I worked for them in PHX from 1988-2002. that hanger had a pretty good cafeteria in it.
Yes Klay. The green chili ham sandwich!!!!!!
I work at PHX and have been to that same cafe! It's American's now
I currently have access to that cafeteria! ✈️
The term "state of the art" certainly changes over time :)
Best job I’ve ever had. Loved it at HP.
Sad they're gone. They should have been not allowed to merge. There should be more airlines, not less!
I worked 3 years for them in ABQ
I only flew America West Once when they started flying from BWI flew them to Las Vegas on the 757 I liked them wish when they merged with USAirways that the America West name would have been kept
Sooooo, what happened to make them merge with USAir? He said they were against acquisitions
mmarlkraig30 it was a reverse merger they acquired us airways and kept there name but with aw’s management

Boeing deHavilland Dash-8s? Missed that buyout!
It didn’t last long, Boeing sold it pretty fast but it happened. I had to look it up myself because I never heard of it either

Mike Conway needs to lay off the caffeine.
Yes!! Way too much! 😂😂😂 Way too much passion and excitement in his interview.
😂😂😂😂
America West was the absolute crappiest airline ever to fly
@Lee Stone Why??
I loved them.
