Yeah I’m thinking about it for T8 but I’m very concerned about the balance of the game at launch and how Namco will handle it so I’m planning to just wait a bit for things to settle before really looking into it
@@WeMissDimebag either pick your favourite character and go with it or capitalise on the flavour of the month and ride that, nothing wrong with either option but your mindset isn't really tournament-like imo. You think Knee takes a hiatus at the launch of a game because he is concerned with balance?
27:45 bruh, ofc we wanna see the matches. We wanna see every high level game you play and the reviews. There's literally no one who's giving us this level of insight and detail for this game as much as you do. We appreciate it and it helps the overall skill level of tekken players in the world especially us who don't get to play against a diverse amount of characters and players. Really helps us level up the game
Regarding reaction frames: Frame 20 means 0.3333- ms. 100-150ms more than human visual reactions. For audio reactions ~ 20% faster. Things with multiple options are harder because they force different responses which decreases reaction speed a lot (part of mental stack). In reality it's T7s high input lag that prevent you from blocking it on reaction. You can literally see it before it hits, but you can't actually block it on reaction. That's why Knee says frame 24 is actually "seeable". On ps4, online, etc, add another 1-3 frames. With T8s lower input lag that will likely go down to 20-21 (offline), and even faster in specific cases. In SSBM for instance which has the same input lag as T8 (3.5f), where we don't react with high/low block but just shield against all non-grabs, a frame 18 move like Falcon f-smash can be shielded purely on reaction (offline). So even accounting for the differences in inputs/options, frame 20-21 should be doable in T8, and even lower for specific moves that are distinctive, have unique audio cues, are the only option at certain ranges, etc.
Would love if you made some really beginner friendly guides for Tekken 8. It's really amazing how you/the elite pros think but as someone new to tekken I am struggling to keep up sometimes. Really enjoy your content and learning more and more each video. When comes to frames etc - love how knee kept things simple and then you explained further

Always good to hear from someone like Knee! Regarding the reactability(?) of 20 frame lows and such, I believe our reaction time to audio stimulus is at least 20% faster to visual ones (~20-40ms faster?), so this might be a factor for any fast lows that have audio cues (of course assuming the audio start is synced with the animation), or any fast moves with distinctive audio startups
Agree, a good example is Feng's snake edge? There's an audio cue with the real one while the fake is silent, i think Asuka has the same thing, and Heihachi has the iconic ashi

Thank you so much for all of this content Phi. You're the best tekken content creator this year and I'm REALLY looking forward to what you do in 8. You've released banger after banger and I'm constantly looking forward to what you have next
I am completely new Tekken player, I mostly play Street Fighter, but I am excited to learn Tekken preparing for the launch of 8! And something that's really interesting about Tekken community is how much you talk about Korean, American and Pakinstan Style! The difference of style of different regions seems pretty cool to me because in SF this pretty much doesn't exist. I mean, there is some difference between the West and Japanese players in SF, but we don't see them that different to say there is a style for each region! This means Tekken can have a lot of player expression that makes me really excited to learn more!
It really is like you said about the reacting. There are more factors than just the number of frames. The truth about 20 frame lows is that depending on the animation they can be reacted to by some of the players some of the time. Also, for example, a low out of a stance is more reactable than a low from neutral because your brain can focus on looking for very specific options when the opponent is stuck in a stance.
I love the videos, Phi. Please keep them coming. I have a small request: if you could do an analysis on any pro dragunov match I would appreciate it. I would love to understand high level drag gameplay. Bless!
U know how Versace and Gucci are very “loud” and recognizable from miles away, and almost chaotically patterned? I must say ur content is full of knowledge... I picked up Noctis since I saw ur channel even though I'm a Law main... And the analytics on these gameplays are insane... And I love it...
Knee saying Noctis doesn't need to step much because he has buttons has made me feel so much better about my overall low sidestep usage in T7 because I definitely agree. I never felt like I needed to realign because Noctis just had buttons that did that for me
Since T8 Demo out, i've been watching your contents regularly, and i have a feeling... that you're gonna become one of the best T8 content creator sometime in the future. And it will be soon i think! Great works!! i really enjoy them! :) - A viewer from Korea
The thing about something being unreactable less than 24 frames is only true in a vacuum where you have no expectation of something. Once you're ready for it, it becomes much easier to react or more accurately, predict when something is going to happen. This is why top players in a game like dbfz can react to Broly's light command grab even though it's a really fast 12f command grab
The breakdown of the Pakistani player type is kind of strengthened when you think, one of the first players to beat Arslan was Boa Luvb, who whist good defensively, is well known for being quite chaotic as a Mishima compared to the prototypical style of most other high level players.
It's important to understand too that humans can react faster to audio information than to visual information. So players who train punishing based on audio cues, even if they don't realize they are, will have a better time against certain moves than others.
I learn more and more each video thank you for your insightful content. It’s great content to share with like-minded people who want to improve their game.
The section where you talk about sidesteping to catch stepers, move forward or do nothing i feel is a question ive been asking myself or a while. While Noctis has better coverage options from Knees perspective what are the options for characters with less options or in a game like Tekken 8 where sidewalk and sidestep are much more powerful? Homing is too slow and put the ball back into your oppoent court forcing you to have a reactive play style once you use homing rather then a proacrive play style. Watching Lowhigh play its like a different perspective on alignment. Lowhigh will read movement and will use counter movement to align to force a reaponse from the oppont and then move again to create dead space and punish or set his offence up. Its absolutely crazy. I will need to clip Lowhighs play and see if you can do a methodology breakdown of his style especially regarding realignment.
Maybe this is common knowledge for tourney veteran but sometimes when i watch pakistani player like arslan plays against safe playstyle in long set, they tend to chip down enemy hp with pokes to scare them then tried to take advantage of the opponent mindset by making use of the fear and need to defend from getting their hp chipped down and this is when they started to put their gameplan to use. Like using safe and fast option at the start of round, then with hp advantages, they either stick with it or started to use risky option that doesnt completely kill them, or to trick them so their opponent feels like they had the advantage but as soon as their opponent think of that, they pull out their random mixup hit while still thinking of defensive option before making their turn. But when it comes to american tekken style they somehow are struggling to control the situation.
in the midst of all this, i'm just happy that there is no Noctis in Tekken 8, and even if there were, the roster is now up to speed with movement and movelist to keep up with Noctis and the likes.
Do you think his thinking is simple in itself, or is it a translation issue, where he is very limited to what he can express? Also, with regard to frame-reaction windows in humans, there is variation relative to different factors, i.e. the older you get the more you lose reaction time, different people have better reflexes, some inputs are indiscernible until certain frames (like the Gigas example you mention), etc... I wouldn't be surprised if young and abnormally talented players who also train like madmen (like Lowhigh, Arslan, and Ulsan) are well above standard reaction time.
Yes that' true that the type of animation and the speed of the attack need to be taken into account when deciding if something is reactable or not. I've blocked Jin's db4 on reaction quite a few times even when I used to play on PS4 but I've never reacted to Kazuya's or Kazumi's db4's nor Jin's hellsweep which are all the same speed. I've reacted to Zafina's d3 a few times and M Raven's d4. Before they added framedata to the game I never believed Raven's d4 was 21f. It always looked a lot slower than that due to it's animation. Miguel's db2 is quite difficult despite being much slower.
Ngl I’m feeling glonky as fuck But watching you and knee irl whilst the top is with arslan and then when he switched to noctis it’s reversed and having the main you in the front is so chaotic lmao
Human reaction time peaks at around 18 years and slowly gets worse every decade after that. Knee is 1-2 frames slower than peak young players just because of his age. Arslan says he can react to some i20 lows with obvious animations.
Reaction time is also relative to number of options you are expecting and how easy these options are to distinguish. A 100m sprinter can have 10 frame reaction time to the gun sound. There’s just one thing they wait for. If you are trying to read between popular mid and low, you have two options, etc. More options you add, the slower you become. So it’s important to have good reads to prime your reactions. Shut out all except the most likely options. Then you can react faster.
Along with all that. Pakistanis have really good knowledge of characters. You cannot use strings duck and launch is automated. That comes from practicing daily 7_8 hours of practice for years. And whilst defending we memories opponent. You cannot use flow chart. And you will be punished if you did something same. So random style works best against pakistanis
One tip when speaking to non natives. Don’t adjust your English this much. They are not used to having to understand English similar to theirs. I don’t know if you address this in the video, haven’t watched it fully.
Humans can easily react so visual signals in 20 frames. Some people can even react to a visual signal within 10 - 11 frames with a button press. So there is more to it. How far in do you recognize the animation? What state of mind are you in? Are there other clues like specific audio signals or your opponent telegraphing his intention? Even your level of fitness and even your gender were found out to matter to a degree of about 1 frame each.
Yes, however it's not "react and hit a button" It's "react to animation, differentiate between mid/low, interrupt any current movement action, then select correct block" I don't have a specific example but I was talking to SF players about how they react to faster things, but the reduction of the number of steps before acting makes a huge difference
I have noticed that you play too safe In certain situations when you could play more aggressive to get advantage over your opponent. I think experimenting with more of a aggressive playstyle could be good Imo.
Considering I play in Asia server, Koreans generally respect frames more than Pakistani players. Let's say they think you are going for slow move after a + frame move, they would press buttons. But Koreans generally respect it too much. On the other hand Pakistani player use more punishable moves than Koreans. But that is at the level I am playing at which is Fujin at max.
i20 lows ARE reactable... the reason knee says they are not is because of Playstation input lag.. if you play offline on pc you can block i20 lows pretty consistently
I think he used it for the right person …. He dominated the international scene from tekken 5 and up ,also still makes top 10 majority of the time in t7
@@brandonalcantara1115 dude Arslan showed up merely 4 years ago on tekken scene and he has more evo titles than Knee... Had he been active for a longer period, one can only imagine what more he would have achieved to this day...

Evidence of why the rest of the world hate on Pakistani fans. You can NEVER like another player. If they hear you praising someone that's not from their country they go ballistic. Dude has a gallon of free high quality content and is like"should I do it?". Do we really need to tell you 😅
The Goat is Arsalan Ash .
Knee was the goat before him.
Yes, I think this is a carry over from the previous Tekkens where movement was king
mans talking to knee like he doesn't understand english lmao
After going to multiple Asian countries I swear it's just easier this way
I don't see Arslan Ash.
Hearing you over complicate things after his simple thought is a nightmare.
i20 lows ARE reactable... the reason knee says they are not is because of Playstation input lag.. if you play offline on pc you can block i20 lows pretty consistently
Good content but you might need to reconsider the person for whom you use the word GOAT...
@@aliabbas3988 yes Arslan is a goat in the t7 era …knee is also the goat …who u think the Pakistani like Arslan and others consider their goat learning tekken …respect the man’s history
Evidence of why the rest of the world hate on Pakistani fans. You can NEVER like another player. If they hear you praising someone that's not from their country they go ballistic. If you praise Arslan, Atif Butt, Awais Hani they go "INSHALALALALAH WHAT THE ROCK IS COOKING!" If you dare say "I think (literally put any name here that's not Pakistani) is the goat" they go "HARAM! As if you secretly fed them pork.
