Thank you for the great job demonstrating the exercises! Found you through this video and I'm impressed by your voice. You just gained a new subscriber!
As an older trans women, having transitioned when I've already had my voice crack, this video speaks to me as well. Guess this is where we both meet on our opposite journeys. ;)
I've never felt my head voice before. AND I FELT IT DOING THE EXERCISES. Ive been singing for years and have tried everything to get to my head voice. Thank you sooo much!!!!!
thank you so much! i’m a teenager and my voice just changed significantly. i was really sad when i lost most of my high range. now this is helping me get it back!

I've recently been learning how to use my mixed voice, and it's been really exciting having access to a lot of notes I didn't before, but I've been struggling with excessive vocal tension. These exercises helped a lot to access my upper range in a healthy way. Thank you!!!!
Thank you so much for explaining these exercises! I've tried them before, pulling chest a bit too much, but you've given me the detail in order to do them effectively and properly. "Perfect practise makes perfect" and all. Thank you :D
Love this video! As a recording artist & vocal coach I found this to be one of the BEST mixed voice explanations for both male & female voices! Definitely going to be passing it along to all my students and doing these exercises myself! :)
I feel like vibrato really isn’t something you learn, it’s just natural when your using certain Vowels, I’m not a vocal coach tho so don’t quote me on thay
This is actually really helpful! I do have troubles relating to this as a lower baritone though. I’d love to hear these exercises done with a lower voice.
I appreciate you adding in his demonstration of the exercises. This actually help me understand and I feel a lot more comfortable doing the exercises. Before I wasn’t applying the instruction you gave. Thank you so much!
I feel bad that this is free. This is even beyond choir. I’m in Highschool choir, a capella, and theatre, so the fact that I haven’t been taught this is quite sad honestly. Thank You!
HANNAH! Thank you SO MUCH for this! I only discovered your channel very recently but I've fallen in love with your reactions and your simple advice! I'm so excited to learn how to mix finally.
I find that this video has way more information about mix, exercises and what might go wrong than any other vocal coach video. Thank you for the help! 🎶
Hey ... hey ... heeey.... Thank you very much for this video. Hanna, your explanations are really usefull. I am a spanish native speaker so as we do not use hey, it sound funny to me, but really works. So clap clap clap....
I have a breathy sound. I used to be in a college choir (not too serious lol) as a bass 1. I love this a lot, it’s 4am btw and I’m son tempted to do this haha.
i would love a how to mix for women because i basically taught myself to belt/mix when i got to college for theatre and it’s still really hard to understand what i’m doing
i have a question. i am disabled and i only have one lung. when i was school my voice broke 1 week before my singing exam and back then i had a 9 and 1/2 octive range but the teacher didnt let me have a vocal rest to learn my new voice and in that week i had to relentlessly practice and find 4 new songs (2 main, 2 backup) and after that exam my vocal cords were seriously hurt and ive never recovered. for that week i had about 5 octaves mabey just under that. but now i barely manage 1 octave and i cant go into my head voice very easily or sustain sound very well and its so upsetting coz i trained myself otherwise coz my teacher in school didnt like me coz i was the nly boy in the class but i could do so many technical things like whitle tone and sub harmonics though my own gradual practice out in the fields. i desprately want to have at least some of my voice back, it feels like ive lost a huge chunk of who i am and feel like im just useless at music now because i cant play instruments because i have hand problems or other reasons. i beg you if anyone can even help me get some bit of my voice back it would mean everthing to me, my voice is who i am and sing i cant sing well anymore, i feel i have lost myself, and worse yet and terrified i'll never get even the smasllest part of it back. Please, if anyone can help me. You have no idea how much that would mean to me. sincerly john
Hi, Hannah! I have a lot of trouble pointing out what sounds as a mix than a load falsetto or a breathier chest voice. Can you/do you have any videos that can identify a mix voice and what is not from a song sang by a male? I love your work, especially the editing of the text in your video.
@@HannahBayles i watched both videos (they literally are my idols) and had Jordan's "shine" on repeat lol. I maybe have trouble noticing the mix and/or they have really great technique. But the moments you pointed out gave me a general feel to what the idea of a mix is. Just to clarify (and give me hope to reach high notes), a lot of times when men belt, they use mixed voice, right?
I was just watching ur other mix video! Im trying to learn a song from DEH but my voice always breaks around a G B and C (idk if that makes sense, i havent played a piano in a while and forgot the notes lol) edit: just realized this is for guys. I will be back for the womens vid

Hey Hannah! This is a really awesome video however I’m still having some difficulty distinguishing my mix. It’s either chest or head if you know what I mean? I can’t seem to identify when or if I produce a successful mix...
oof I can feel the workout XD I realized fairly recently I definitely sing with too much breath just all the way through and while having the capacity to do so is something I'd like to retain I also feel like I've eroded so many of my better singing habits just unconsciously over the years
Please react to Barrett Doss singing If I Had My Time Again from Groundhog Day! She is a ridiculously amazing WOC performer. There is a really good live version in the Groundhog Day Talks at Google video (around the 10 minute mark).
Hannah, the first “hey” excersise has me a little confused. Are we saying the “hey” in a head voice or are we saying it in a chest voice brought up as high in pitch as we can go? Thank you!
Hi Hannah! I was wondering if you had any tips on how to create that musical theatre sound but with a raised soft pallet and low laryngeal position? Typically, as I’m sure you know, a raised soft pallet and low larynx is great for a classical sound in the male voice. But is there a way for it to be used in contemporary musical theatre? Or should all of that technique be forgotten about? Thanks!
As far as belts go, a raised soft pallet is definitely something that's used in contemporary musical theater. But I'd say you rather go for a neutral laryngeal position.
Great video Hannah! Extremely helpful. In terms of reaction videos, please check out You Oughta Know sung by Lauren Patten from Jagged Little Pill. Or anything from that show really!
Thank you so much for this video! I'm an absolute newbie to singing I just like songs in musicals but I'm confused about what my voice type is. I'm really confused so any advice anyone has please let me know! Btw I could be completely wrong about everything I said above.
hey there! if you're struggling hitting notes in a tenor range, I would assume that you have hit a bridge/passage. a bridge is the divide between your chest voice and head voice. the exercises shown in this video can be really helpful in accessing that part of your range! also, if you can speak higher than when you're singing singing, try to speak on-pitch. because that also is part of your chest voice, and can help close that gap. :D
soo i need to focus to the nay and bip for the one octave gap?!?! ok i'll try 😭😭 because i have a strong head voice and it can sound like a mix sometimes but is not D: and when i try to go to mix, i feel like i'm doing 2 notes at the same time 😭😭

what’s your vocal range? i know you’re a soprano so i’m assuming C4-C6, but if you include vocal fry, head voice/falsetto, mixed register, whistles, what would it be?

Not sure how that makes any sense what so ever Edit: Nevermind, I can belt up to F4 now. Probably a dramatic bass-baritone, my actual natural comfortable range is rather low
Wow we’re like the same person 😂 I’m 15 and my head voice goes to d6 and whistle to f6! But still my chest voice starts struggling around e4 to f4. Still perfecting the mix but I’ve found it it just needs strengthening
