HI! I've got Naples yellow deep from Sennelier and Winsor and Newton, Titanium gold ochre from Schmincke and Yellow ochre light from Mijello. All of them are quite opaque, Schmincke and Winsor and Newton's are very similar, like an earthy orange, none of them granulates. Mijello is like an opaque yellow, a bit chalky, not my favorite. If you want a granulating one, go for Sennelier's, I love it. Thank you for your videos, I enjoy them a lot.
hi maria! thank you for your kind words 🥰seems like you have all the ones i don't have here haha! but it's good so we can compare! thank you so much for the useful info! i'll pin your comment so others could see as well
I've played around trying to figure out what PBr7 they use for Cascade Green, and the closest I come is using Raw Sienna. So it makes sense since this is very close in hue.
What a beautiful earth colour! It glows more than any other earth colour I have seen save PO49. PBr24 seems to have more personality than the siennas and the ochres. I have the Sennelier one which I bought on a whim last year but am yet to open the tube. And those mixes are absolutely stunning specially the ones with PV. Thank you for this.
Sort of the information I just asked about in another comment (I won't delete it, though. The more, the merrier. 😄). Very interesting observations, as I'm kind of unhappy with raw sienna and yellow ochre and looking for better yet unusual alternatives. Thank you!
@@PaintinHiding Those two are the most common with PG50 Cobalt Titanate (green and turquoise ) The PY216 titanium zinc antimony stannate can also be found across several brand (Turner's Yellow ) Roman Szmal has PY164 Manganese Antimony Titanium, PY189 Nickel Tungsten Titanium Yellow and PO82 orange also. There's more like Holbein PY157 Nickel barium titanium, Pbk12 Iron Titanium Brown Spinel, Schminke Pr298 YinTiCo, ...
@@Kliffot oh ho! i didn't realize titanium and titanate were the same, lol. silly me~ should've put two and two together. i love and have several that you've listed so i'm glad XD
Thank you! I've started to really like PBr24 and used to think I didnt have room for it once i had Yellow Ochre and Raw Sienna on my palette. But I'm going to explore more.
I didn't even know this was a pigment.Yellows & purples are my favorite colors. I have to check this out. And I'm back. DaVinci carries it-Naples Yellow Deep. Adding it to my to buy list. Thank you for the head's up
I'm so glad I found your channel! My favorite part of the video was the fascinating mixes. You mix colors that I would have NEVER thought to try! Some of them were just breathtaking! Thanks for sharing your explorations, and I look forward to your next video. Love from Kansas, USA 🌻
Such a beautiful color thank you for sharing. I actually was thinking of buying Ochre color I guess this is why I was drawn to this video in the first place. I like Maimeri, I think I already have tons of granulating colors.
I have PBr 24 from Schmincke (it's called Titanium Gold Ochre) and it's a very clean yellow version. I had no idea it varied so much! I've never thought of it as granulating, but Bruce from handprint says the Schmincke version can be "flocculating." I'll have to try that out and see. He uses it instead of Raw Sienna. Now I'm super curious how DaVinci and M. Graham compare. From Handprint on PBr 24: "Of the brands tested, Winsor & Newton naples yellow deep is slightly smoother textured, more saturated, more staining, and is more active in wet applications; the Schmincke pigment shows a subtle flocculation in washes."
yes! i read that from bruce as well! w&n and schmincke were the ones i was considering getting but denise soden uses schmincke a lot and it never seemed to be granulating and so when bruce said w&n is even smoother, both brands got eliminated for me 😅 went with maimeri instead but im not too sad about it. at least now we all have more info. im definitely curious about davinci as well. i think it’s in denise’s new opacity palette if i remember correctly
Not my fav but i would like to try it for mixing purposes, i love mixing quin rose with holbein jaune brilliant 2 for a pastel coral color, or with a buff titanium for a dusty pink, or just white for a clean pink i wonder if this would work as a deeper yellower version of buff titanium
Thanks for introducing this pigment to me, it never really caught my attention before. I wonder how it differs from regular Raw Siennas and Yellow Ochres, in practical use, apart from their hues. Do they look all the same when diluted? 🤔 Do they behave differently in mixtures? I've been Googling about it, not much can be found, though. Any infos are very welcome. 😄. I really enjoyed the mixes with Pv16 and Pb29. Beautiful.
i feel like i might to make a video answering all your questions because i'm interested in its potential as well :D please dont expect a vid on it any time soon though, i'm rather slow to film/edit 😅
@@PaintinHiding when It comes to earthy yellows (ochres, siennas, transparent oxides - the list goes on, especially in the DS's range) the more a dig, the more confused I get, for some look pretty much the same to me. @@lindsaykorth2713 oh my gosh, i’ve been there! im STILL there! 🤣 i think i bought like 5-6 earth yellows from RS just because of this exactly. they’re all slightly different but at the end of the day, they occupy the same “earth yellow” spot 🤣🙈
@@PaintinHiding hahaha geez... So, I have added about 8 options from different brands and under different names or even made with different pigments to my shopping cart, hoping I will eventually get out of this color haze and come down to at least two final choices to make life a bit easier. 😂
an interesting comparison and a pigment I don't see mentioned or featured a lot. I have used Winsor and Newton PBr24 Naples Yellow Deep (If I'm correct, it's been years). I even used it in place of yellow ochre sometimes, it is a rather soft and delicate color, reminds me of butter too XD I have also seen it in some Van Gogh colors, maybe naples yellow reddish (combined with another pigment) and it was also beautiful. I keep a half pan in my extended palette but never used it in a limited palette. Do you have a favorite way of using it?
since i only recently started using this pigment, i haven't painted much with it but i'm loving using it in skies! really soft and super nice against moody skies :D
@@PaintinHiding I see it a bit warmer than nat. yellow ochre from qor. Definitely with a golden glow. 😊 Not as orange as the one from RS and not granulating. Hope that helped 😊
Hello Paint in Hiding, would love to see all three of them mixed with more blues for skies, to find ones that don't go grey when mixed. Which brand did you use in your colour mixing? In kindred spirit Eliza
I was planning to replace my Lukas Naples yellow which has two pigments with M Graham's PBr24. Based on Dr. Oto's swatches it's more orange than lukas' and granulates

Tip: before opening, put tube in the fridge for 15 minutes. This should cause paint inside to contract and prevent splurge on opening

The biggest difference I've noticed is the very high opacity and tinting strength. Which can be great in the foreground of landscapes, etc.
