So interesting!!! It saves a lot of money when you show colors and how they change with white. Thank you!
Just wait til they’re mixed with other colors😳🙃
Thanks for swatching these! Very helpful for choosing which colors to buy.
You are so welcome!
I love this! Very cool!! I love the way you swatched. And holy crap, moonglow with white is GORGEOUS. Going to swatch the first set of 22 this week because I got the set of 52 first. I would so love to meet you eventually! I was adopted into the Daniel Smith Brand Ambassador family last September. What an absolute honor to get to rub proverbial shoulders with wonderful creatives like you! ❤❤
Nice to meet you too!!! Congrats on your adoption-I kinda feel like “PINCH ME!” 🤣 We need a giant Ambassador meetup someday🤙🏼
I watched a Sarah Burns video about her dried gouache palette the other day and she said her Daniel Smith gouache dried/rewet beautifully. It's exciting to see all these new colors in their gouache line! Are there a 6-8 colors you would recommend for getting started with this line? I always struggle with choosing colors I like vs. choosing colors that will be versatile.
I'm trying to figure that out right now, it's so hard deciding among 74 options! I'll be making a gouache video in about a week and will try for preliminary suggestions - is there a subject matter you're looking to paint?
@@SandyAllnock1 I haven't really settled into a subject I gravitate towards. Fruit, birds and landscapes, maybe? 😅
If you were wanting to make a limited all-around palette of DS gouache, what colors would you think were most necessary? I know he sells a set of 4 colors and I was thinking of getting that, but would you include a few other colors to round that set out? Some youtubers think that set is too warm and should have other colors. I was curious to know your opinion. I plan on making a dried goache palette and I heard that DS gouache is very good when rewet.
It's definitely good gouache, and I agree the little set isn't enough. I've recommended they do a "6 essentials" like they have in watercolor (warm and cool RYB) plus black and white, but I think they wanted an intro set to be cheaper than 8 tubes.
I watched this video cause Im curious about the Indian Yellow, don't you have it or did I miss it somehow?!
I have it in gouache and watercolor both 💛
@@SandyAllnock1 I have it in watercolor. You know its splendid variation from a subtle but bright yellow to that almost golden yellow in mass tone... so Im really curious, as to how it compares to gouache. Cause the Sap Green doesnt look like the watercolor Sap Green version. Can you help me with this, please? 😊
@@veystone2580 the reason they look different is because gouache is basically mass-tone that flows, with the intention you’ll mix it with water. With sap green if you painted wc thick & straight from the tube, no water, it’s very dark like gouache. But gouache you add white to lighten. I haven’t compared Indian yellow in the two but I can check that out when I get in the studio later.
@@SandyAllnock1 that's SO KIND of u!! If u have the chance to check that out, it would be awesome! Im disable on a fixed income, so I need to be sure of what I buy!
I don’t mind some sponsorship, but UA-cam is just bought now. Every post is a commercial. Not watching.
lol I’m not sure you realize you just commented on one of the least-sponsored artists on the platform. But ok you do you. 🤣
Hello Sandy, thank you so much for this video - I am so excited to try the new colors of Daniel Smith ! They do look amazing 😍
As for granulation, when I tried their "cascade green" gouache on a wet paper I was so pleasantly surprised to see the same pigment separation as in their watercolours. If you want, you can see it in this portion of my review video here (around 8:25) : ua-cam.com/video/X_6dvPOoGgk/v-deo.htmlsi=nnOwNXY4KT3lmxPw&t=505
So, I believe we can get the granulating effect on all their granulating pigments, including cobalt teal, bloodstone, hematite.. Can't wait to discover them too !
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
How do the granulating colors like moonglow compare in watercolor and gouache? It would be fun to see a piece that ranges from hazy diluted areas with pigment separation to more defined opaque areas using just gouache.
I’ll be testing out granulating colors for sure!
OMGoodness!!! You are an AMAZING ARTIST!!!
Aw thanks!! That means a lot!
I came here to say the same thing! Absolutely amazing work!
@@Gypsisoul1111 aww y’all making me blush!!!
You lucky duck!I need to see if they have launched over here yet.
Just suscribed to your channel, im a UK fan.. I love your videos Sandy. On the colours you wanted us to ask you to use. Could you do a video on the copper, silver , bronze colours ? it would be interesting what other pictures you would use those colours for.
Great idea❤️
Very informative video as are all your videos. I especially liked that you showed your paintings, the colors that you used for the paintings, as well as all the swatches.
Would love to know how they do in a palette. I've come across cracking. Although I'm a novice :) Thank you Sandy!
I’ve had a couple brands for a year and a half in an airtight palette, and though some colors dry eventually, they’re easy to reconstitute. Daniel Smith’s stay just fine about 2-4 times longer than other brands.
Can you do something with the Indanthrone blue?
Can do :)
I thought the poppy was a photograph! Amazing!
Great video. I would love to see your choice for an essential 6 to 12 basic palette of colours.
That’s what I’m hoping to get to as I test. 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
These look so gorgeous, amazing video sandy ☺☺☺
Thanks for sharing these! I’ve used Piemonte Genuine in Mule Deer, Jack Rabbit and Raccoon fur before. That and moonglow help to give (in my mind) some nice dimension to a dun-colored animal.
I am really loving the King’s Royal Blue…that could be beautiful in skies, feather, flowers, highlight reflections in eyes….hmmmm….putting it on my Valentines gift list!!
Very interesting, Sandy. I like the way you added white to each swatch to see the blend quality. My favorite colors are SW colors... turquoise, Teal, Aqua, Sienna, copper, etc, and I Love colors of sunrises and sunsets. I guess. I'd like to see more teals or turquoise maybe, but you've got a great pallet already for sure. Thanks for sharing.
I just LOVE Daniel Smith water colors. Especially the Quinacridone But those quashes look pretty nice. I’d love to see you do something with the yellows and the rusty browns. Thanks Sandy.
OH, MAN YOU'RE SO LUCKY!
Wow Sandy! Gorgeous colors. So lucky you are an ambassador for DS, let them know I need some too! Thanks Maria
hmm i thought zinc white was the mixing white ?
Love the shimmery colors, but oh that wisteria! Used to have a vine, but eventually the wind knocked over the trellis. Would love to see you paint anything with that color. TFS
Some of these look amazing… I have a few from the original launch, but might have to get that bloodstone and moon glow
I was wondering if they'd brought out new colors yet, so it's nice that they did, although personally I'd have added different ones. I looked at the color chart and was a bit shocked they added so many of the artist associated blacks and greys, as well as the pearlescent and interference colors (which are not my thing). But no pale blue for sky, for instance?
I have my questions too - I still can't see a difference in the artists blacks either! Geesh. But since they sent them to me at least I don't have to buy a black again for a long while. A sky blue already mixed would be excellent too, but in gouache most artists prefer to make their own mixes, I think.
I would love to see the pearlescent white and iridescent blue, moonstone and sunstone colors used in a seascapes maybe at nightfall or sunset. I love the shimmery paints.
Beautiful paintings you are an amazing artist.
So interesting, it's amazing what colors are used to create other colors.
Thank you for this, Miss Sandy! I've never messed with Gouache, can I mix colors successfully with it? I'd like to see that explored while you are painting with them sometime to come!
Yes you can mix! 😜
Thanks for sharing all the color swatches and your artwork; this is very helpful for someone who just wants a few colors. I'm always impressed with your artwork and ability to utilize whatever medium you pick up to create amazing things.
You are so welcome! As I’ve often said, learn the foundations of art and a medium only presents techniques to learn. ❤️ Gouache is one that keeps teaching me things to apply in other mediums!
