Being a tall girl usually stereotypes to being a MODEL not a basket baller. Karlie Kloss is 6’2”
Not for young kids. People only say "You should model" to tall girls who are exceptionally attractive. The rest of them just get pressured into joining the basketball team. LOL
Nah,, it’s usually the latter for me,, but I’ve been told I should be a model before. But that was because I’m skinny,, average and thicker tall girls would probably just be told to join basketball and volleyball 🗿
Yup there was a girl at my school exactly like Jodie tall blonde thin pretty definitely over 6 ft and everyone either thought she already was a model or suggested she be a model never made fun of her for it so yeah the ‘Tall Girl’ at my school was only seen as a model not nicknames like daddy long legs
I'm really short and I get that I should play basketball really often because people just assume it'll make me grow lmao
@@MsBrendalina this!!! lmao
The fact that they had kimmy say "Taller Swift" is lowkey a plothole because Taylor swift is literally 5'11.
sereen I noticed that too.
yeah I was thinking to myself "isn't Taylor really tall??"
One of the many subtleties this reviewer missed.
To be fair, she would be the "Taller" Swift
Innit😂👌
"You're a tall girl you can't be a pretty girl." The average height for runaway models is litteraly 6"
Actually it’s like 5’10 but I get your point
I remember a season in America’s Next Top Model where a girl who was 5’7 was known as the “really short girl.” Like, really? I’m 4’11. She’s over half a foot taller than me.😂
@@JM-vr1br same but I'm 5'0
My sister is 5'7 yet S H O R T
Because 6'1 is A V E R A G E
Runway models typically have to be a certain height (~5'9) in order to minimize fitting time. Generally, fashion models are picked to suit the outfits (not the other way around)
It’s weird how they called her “taller Swift” when Taylor Swift is 5”10 herself
Well...
Taylor Swift: 5’ 10”
Jodi: 6’ 1”
She is Taller Swift!
Little Kitten true..
Well, you see 5'10 and 6'1 and a half are TOTALLY different things.
@@euro-trashling Taylor swift is a few inches shorter than Jodi lol
Bianca Gentile 5’10 is 2 inches below 6’0.....
That girl saying “you’re the tall girl, you’ll never be the pretty girl” is the most ironic thing since most models have to be above 5”10????
She's an actual model irl so that's cool lol
That's what I was thinking! It actually made me think about the episode of Phineas&Ferb where Candace wants to be a model but ISN"T tall enough
Like, Karlie Kloss seems to be reported as 6'2 (aka even taller than Jodi), is best friends with Jodi's role model Taylor Swift, and is currently married to Joshua Kushner, a business man and investor whose alma mater is Harvard Business School.
CHILL JODI, YOU'RE JUST TALL.
Right? Her being 6ft could easily get her into Modeling.
5’7***
They act like she’s 8ft tall. I’m pretty sure 99% of high schools has more than 1 person 6ft or over.
Thats what im saying.. if the movie is trying to point out the fact shes only one thats tall (6ft) then does that me the next tallest person is 5'11 (before stig came)
My middle school has like 5
My year 11 class had 13 people (out of 25ish) who were taller than 6 feet. This whole movie is filled with bull
I go to a fucking all girls school and surprise surprise, there are maybe a dozen girls who are taller than 5’9, and two female teachers who are also around 6 ft. 😕
Micah Sypert there’s a sophomore at my school who’s almost 7 feet tall and everyone loves him
"You're the tall girl, you'll never be the pretty girl"
Nicole Kidman, 5'11
Uma Thurman, 6'
Maria Sharapova, 6'1
Gwendoline Christie, 6'3
If you have to be a bully, at least do it right.
*Zendaya - 6ft
*ANY MODEL*
Luna uwu Zendeya is 5’10 but in heels she usually stands at 6’0 but she is still beautiful
And Taylor Swift is 5'11".

Netflix really shot a movie about a girl whose only personal trait was being tall? LMAO

The movie should've been more about a tall girl learning to love herself rather than romance
thats pretty cliché tho but i agree. it would've at least helped.
she did love herself at the end because she learns it through her experience
That or how she becomes depressed because of the bullying. The message being that the minor comments everyday leads up to a lot of selfhatered.

I don't think Taylor Swift is that much shorter than her
I love the movie but like that part was kinda cringy
This girl, I don't want to minimize what she went through, but she wasn't bullied by peers for being tall, she was emotionally abused by an insane woman who held children who were already working harder than a child should to ludicrous standards
Alex Brown yea that tv show was toxic
Well she may have been bullied outside of that as well
Mean kids will try to find anything they can to rile someone up, so I think, if they saw the show and saw how much it hurt her, then it's possible that they gave her hell for it. But yeah, usually no one's THAT bothered.
CallmeZ I’m like 90% sure Dance Moms is highly scripted. I mean, do you really think those girls and their parents would stick with Abby Lee Miller for all those years if she was that cruel to children?
gina vitis They had contracts locking them into six years of the show. Every child on that show has completely severed contact with Abby. Aside from the kids on the show now and Jojo Siwa, no one talks to her or about her.

I say this.
This is the opposite of my school EVERYONE wants to be the tallest in the class.

Yeah like I wish I could be taller even though I’m taller than all but one of my closest friends and am 4-5 inches above average for women despite me not being an adult
It depends on how the heights run. Growing up, I was always third tallest, two other girls always went back and forth, but especially by late middle school and definitely high school the guys were typically taller than me still or at least close. No one really cared about height. Then I moved across country, where I'm by far the tallest girl in even a much bigger school, taller or as tall as most of the guys, and so much hate happened for it.

I think the movie would have been ok if they didn't portray her as oppressed, but rather used her experience as an entry point for a conversation on toxic beauty standards. You could even go a step further and aknowledge those who have it worse without watering down the main characters pain and maintain the point that we all punish each other for beauties sake but only few of us are up lifted.

I'm 180cm tall (which I think is 5'11) and I was insecure AF in school. 'Tall girl' may be a bad movie but being a tall girl is not an invented problem. Even if people don't bully you openly, you still perceive yourself as 'not normal' and it ruins your self-esteem. You feel awkward all the time.
A teacher once said to us during history class: 'as we all know, small women are made for love, and tall women are made for work'. Feminism or body-positivity wasn't a big thing 15 years ago (at least where I live). A girl was supposed to be feminine and you can't feel feminine when you're bigger than all the guys, therefore, again, you feel 'not normal'. This led to me choosing partners solely based on how tall they are, which of course rarely resulted in healthy relationships.
When I was 12, another teacher divided our class in two groups, and within each group you had to collectively come up with a two-word description for each person from the other group. The description I got can be roughly translated as 'lanky geek'. Another girl who was my height was a little more lucky and got 'a funny giraffe'.
Oh, and a lot of people are saying tall girls shouldn't be defined by how tall they are. But the problem is, that's exactly how other people define them constantly. With all the 'you should be a model' and 'are you on the basketball team?' comments. Like these are the only things in life you're allowed to do.
And then there were small things like not being able to find clothes or shoes that fit you. I have no problem shopping in the men's section now but as a teenager you are ashamed of that. So for years, I wore shoes in smaller sizes, and now my toes are deformed because of that.
And it doesn't fully go away when you grow up, you just become smart enough to realize it doesn't matter. I sometimes wear heels, and almost every time I do someone will come up to me with 'You're already so tall, why do you need heels?'. I went on a Tinder date once, and the guy turned out to be a lot smaller than me. The evening was awkward, and we set down all the time. Afterwards I included my height in my Tinder description, and almost immediately stopped getting any matches. Another time, I was travelling with a group people, and there was a guy who just couldn't get over how tall I am. He kept mentioning it every day and one time he looked at my feet and was like 'Oh wow! Your feet are so large! I thought mine were big but yours are almost as big as mine, and you're a woman!'
If you've made it this far - thank you for spending your time on this. A lot of us are struggling with accepting ourselves as valid, and I don't think it's a productive strategy to categorize those struggles as important and not important. Like, 'okay, you're fat but at least you don't experience racism' or 'you were bullied for being gay but be grateful you don't have disabilities'.
It's probably a lot better now though, compared to when I was in school. I think modern teenagers, and the world generally, are a lot more accepting of other people.
yeeess.
Wow, I'm sorry you have been through all that. Some people, specially some guys can be trully jerks!

THEY GAVE HER THE UGLIEST MOST UNFITTING CLOTHES I HAVE EVER SEEN! I thought it was just me not liking her preference but, actress's red carpet outfit looked amazing.
Tropical Orange I know right!Like why the heck is she wearing a janitor costume in the beginning of the movie?and why in the world does she wearing a flight attendent costume for her prom dress?!😂🤣
lmao ik and you can't even say that it's hard to find to get clothes that fit but she literally has money as you can clearly tell ugh I just love that everyone is tearing this movie
That's really rude. I loved the outfit. It was unique and cute! I would wear that to homecoming
@@agdollnetwork7483 eh I guess people have their own likings and that's good that you like something unique and don't fall into what majority likes :]

Jodi: white, rich, healthy, caring parents, 2 guys over her, could be able to play volleyball or basketball, and is rich
Also jodi: I wear mens size shoes😭😫
Ok but who says ‘I’ll kick you in the nards with my size 13 Nikes’ 😂
Also that girl calling her Taller Swift is so ironic because Taylor Swift is 5'10 LMAO
Thought it immediately, I was like uh... I’m sure that makes her more like Taylor if anything
Goofyk10 Gaming
Wait really I thought she was like 5’5-
But Taylor Swift isn't really that different from many female tennis players, long jumpers, high jumpers, swimmers or basketball/ netball players.
Goofyk10 Gaming 😆wow
@@tudormiller8898 But she's still tall. Not weirdly tall, of course.
her life history is actually really sad, however the movie sucks.
nah she got bullied once by a grown-ass women who bullies everyone so like not that hard
shreyal sharma you can’t judge people’s take on someone’s comment. In this case she’s insecure about her height. In the show, abby talks about it like it was a disability. Being told that as child could create a massive impact from the way your goals are set. This is a traumatic experience for her you can tell by how she’s constantly trying to persuade everyone to think that being tall is not a bad thing. “It’s not that hard” is not realistic. Your ability to understand her situation is poor. I hope you got enlightened from my response.
@@shreyalsharma4074 so its still bullying and it still can hurt her and make her insecure. and from what I know of abby wasnt the only person who bothered her bc of her height.
shreyal sharma pretty sure that when a young girl gets kicked off her dance team by a grown woman, that could make her p insecure
Ahhh terrible a fat short woman how bad it’s like im lucky to still be on a show but ahhhh so terrible
Am I the only one who just realized Jodie's mom is Angela from the office
As a tall person. I can tell you. ABSOLUTELY NO ONE CARES.
bro this means every single boy in that school except stig is shorter than 6’0💀✊🏿.
Satxn yeah they make it look like she’s sooooo y’all but really 6’0” in general isn’t that tall like most guys are at least 6’0” or very close.
most guys are definitely not 6 feet lmao what
average height for guys is like 5 7 tho theres a lot of guy who are 6 foot, maybe not most but its like maybe at least 40 percent or so? either way this is just the short people high school i guess stig and jodi are in the wrong school
Right like there’s so many tall guys at my school
@@randomalpaca1150 I thought it was 5 10, either way it's not like 6'0 is HUGE in comparison anyways this is coming from a girl that is under five feet tall.
One of her best friend carries around a milk crate, and she’s the one getting bullied??
Mimi W and to be more fair, she’s beautiful too.
FRRRRR
I watched the crappy movie and at the end he keeps the milk crate bc he knew he needed it because he claimed he "needed" it then puts the crate down then steps on it and kisses Jodie

Who dressed this girl?! Dressing like a janitor for half of the movie then flight attendant for prom ain’t it sis
Nikki bro your talking about dressing while I’m here wondering why the heck I wasted 25 minutes and 30 seconds watching some random chick rant about how much she hated the movie like
*nobody cares*
It’s meant to be a joke, at least it’s funny watching her in those ridiculous clothes.

•ᴀɴɴᴀ ʟᴏᴠᴇs ғᴏᴏᴅ• obviously a lot of people cared, why’d you decide to watch the full video of you didn’t even like it..? like bro that’s dumb.
I think the funniest thing about the whole “you think your life is hard” monologue is that she’s goes to ruby bridges high school, and ruby bridges was the the first black girl to go to an all white school and she literally got death threats and had to be escorted to school to make sure she wasn’t assaulted...yikes
Are they really comparing a woman who got death threats to a teenager who is slightly taller then average 😒
I'm speechless..shoot..
Yes! I made that connection, as well as just being placed in NOLA. NOLA has a long history with social issues from race to poverty. Funny, literally just realized how privileged Jodi is to live in a house like that in that area.
This genuinely makes me think it was supposed to be cruel irony and satire maybe? But oof...
islahasnnothingtodo ok dang like chill being tall is actually difficult at times like sheesh maybe she didn’t have to be all like “beat that” but it can still be tough
22:45 Sabrina’s reaction is how I think we all felt about her going onto stage and giving a speech.
" I was not popular with the girls in my class, because I was so beautiful 😇😌"
what. a. mood.
"You think your life is hard? I wear men's size 13 nikes"
*Kim, there's people that are dying*

this is funnier than all the jokes in the movie
This comment should be illegal.
lmao
Lmao 🤣
Bruh I'm 6'2 and this movie pisses me off to no end. They treat her like a freak even those shes not that tall?
I know, that was my biggest gripe with this film. Jodi is treated like a mutant just for her height, when she's hardly a giant. They just hired actors who were of average height, or exaggerated the camera angle to make her look bigger than she actually was. 😤
Well... I'm also 6'2 and was definitely treated that way at school... it happens
I think the point is that SHE feels like a freak.
@@DreamOnFire but not like that. It's just not the case
FuckingSlytherinQueen how are you gonna tell Elena how she was bullied?😂
Tbh ppl bullied me for being tall in high school they would literally say stuff like "you're too tall for that" or they'd make fun of me and call me big but over time I stopped caring and being tall is a privilege and they were all just haters honey lol
as a 4’11.8 girl (the 0.8 matters.), i can confirm, being tall is a privilege ;-;

i feel very sorry for Ava, but we can’t deny the fact that the movie is horrible.
Plus it shows how good actress she is... sure she is not excellent but with a little more experience can be a good one
@I Love Musicals same, she really have potential to interpret a rounder character cause let me honest
That character was flat like it main conflict was that she was too tall and that's it i don't see her motivations or dreams... that character only wants a boyfriend
Not tryna be rude but like AVA needs to get over it like ejdjkwjcujeje the amount of rage I feel is incredible likeee she got kicked off because her mother was trouble and she screwed uo her dance but her mother didn’t understand that went back and she had to hurt her feelings to kick her off finally for the third time
She's not good by playing a character that's fussing over something litteraly we all want, go look pretty.
Atleast I do, as the shit I am
I’ve been liking Ava since Dance Moms I agree with you her acting was great but I hope we can see her play a character that’s well-rounded and well-written I am a tall teenage boy I get compliments about my height every single day I had my own insecurities about my height for years now so I can relate to Ava a little this movie had fall flat...
Tall Girl is the Sierra Burgess Is A Loser of 2019, it seems.
Yep, I'd say that it's worthy of that title, as they both set out with good intentions, but badly mangled their execution, and have characters who are MUCH more interesting than our protagonist (Veronica and Dan in "Sierra Burgess", Fareeda and Harper in "Tall Girl").
But Sierra burgess is worse
So true!!
Lol true
@cat lover yeah, they’re both mediocre but SB seems more offensive
The thing is, I've actually been giving shit for my height and it's nothing like this. This movie completely failed on portraying the actual struggles of tall girls.
You called it melodrama that her dad bullied her for her height but that was the one part that was realistic. My family was genuinely concerned that I'll grow "too tall to find a husband", and would discourage me from any exercises that'll make me taller, and constantly tell me not to wear heels.
That fucking end speech 🤣I would have laughed at her if I was there
as a lesbian, there's nothing hotter than a tall girl. it's like this entire movie was written by an insecure straight man, like, "omg, a girl who's taller than me?? she must feel awful about it too"
That's because it probably was.
Honestly there are plenty of straight guys who are 6'0 or taller anyway.
Except it was actually a woman who directed it. L
@@supernormalhuman8916 That isn't the same as "written"
i don't prefer tall girls but they're alright
we know it garbage...but sabrina carpenter kinda rocked it ngl
Sabrina is a great actor
She saved us from apocalypse with her beauty 😌
I loved how she kept looking out of the window and talking to her sis dramatically
big facts
morphing legend she rocks everything 🤷🏻♀️
The worst I went through were people asking me, "why are you tall???" And even that barely happened
My hs class had 3 tall girls, all of whom were insecure about their height. They usually slumped their shoulders and all, but they were never bullied. One told me that she slouches because she doesn’t want to be the first face people sees when they walk into a room. The interesting thing is all 3 of them were popular cause they are nice people and are conventionally pretty.
i heard that sabrina carpenter went to the emergency room for a severe back injury from carrying the movie on her back the whole time.

True
Loll
omg xDDDD
KamylaDolan Sabrina Carpenter is amazing in literally everything she does
the issue wasn’t her height it was that super tight slicked back pony tail that I wore when I was 13 when my hair was too greasy. they even got her a new hairstyle during her makeover scene and she put it back into that dang ponytail!!!
Tbh she could look like a model without that hairstyle, maybe a lil eyeliner.. I used to be insecure about my height and weight so I hid myself but then I realized I can wear maxi dresses and long jumpsuits and look cute af 😂
IKR the ponytale was TICKING ME OFFFF
Dumb Lil Red ikr like if she doesn’t wanna look taller take ur hair out of that high ass ponytail
Satxn they probably did the ugly high ponytail to make her 1) look taller with an inch of pony tail lol 2) look less proportional by making her head look smaller, hence she looks a bit taller. I mean, they couldn’t be bothered to cast a girl that’s like 6’5+ (you know, actually noticeably tall for a woman so they gotta make it up as they go along)
@@rbartx1690 yeah but it doesn't make sense for the actual character, if she wanted to look shorter she would've done research and always worn horizontal stripes and created the illusion of a lower waist etc.

“you think YOU have it hard? i’m a highschool junior wearing size 13 nikes, in MENS”

I KNOW RIGHT!!
I live in a country that views me as second class citizen and I can't do anything about it, I'm literally not welcome in the place I was BORN IN, but sure, you have it SOOO much worse because you're a little bit TALL and people sometimes tease you about it
"In case you haven’t noticed, I'm tall. I’m a tall girl. I don't fit in. And I don't want to fit in. Have you ever seen me without these stupid size 13 men's Nikes on? That's weird."
Ironic that she says she doesn't want to fit in, but then proceeds to spend the entire movie trying to fit in XD
Riverdale reference. Shit man, the whole script was so bad ugh
I get it. I can’t believe I ever watched that show. 😂
Omg
Lol
As a Tall girl I feel it gives me license to go around on all these Tall Girl videos and express the truth: it ain’t that deep. I’m sorry to Ava but her bullying particularly related to being on a show with one of televisions biggest bully’s and being subject to harassment via internet trolls. Internet trolls will make fun of anything. And not to dismiss her experience but it’s not the same as the struggle was portrayed through the movie. I think the movie wouldn’t have gotten shit if it didn’t act so dire, like if maybe she was lower on the pecking order but not acting like being tall is worse than cancer. I know they didn’t say it in the movie but wow it was heavily implied that being tall was a neglected serious struggle people should recognize. Nope. There are way more pros than cons that’s just fact. This movie should have taken place in elementary/middle school because that’s when it would make sense for kids to be viciously making fun of a tall person. I was always taller than my classmates before high school and I was mainly bullied for it in elementary school. And that’s because eventually kids grow up and realize, you don’t make fun of someone who is twice your size unless you want to get your ass kicked. I didn’t fight anyone or anything 😅 but I’ve been told by numerous classmates they were afraid of me simply because I was tall and seemed intimidating. So yeah also there was a lot of hilarious things that happened growing up because I was tall like at the age of 10 a McDonald’s employee approached me when I was in the play area saying “excuse me ma’am this area is for children” which I just find funny. Like at the time it was awkward but in retrospect I always chuckle. People always asking you to sign their petition before you’re of voting age. Getting mistaken for a parent or adult when you are rolling on the floor playing with your friends. A teacher thought I was a parent having a mental breakdown. The worst thing that happened to me because I was tall was that in 1st grade my bullies were 5th graders. I guess they wanted to pick on someone their own size. This movie is an embarrassment to me as a Tall person Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 👍🏻
me over here being bullied because i’m short: *sips tea loudly*
I completely forgot that Glee actually said the "you all are minorities" line.
