Hell yeah. Rings is a MUST.
It's about his brothers. He's the middle brother. First is his younger brother at his baseball game and second his older brother getting denied his chance to see his favorite band by his overbearing parents. His brother is a professor at Harvard now I believe.
His brother is a prof at Harvard? damn 😅 they're freaking smart in that family
@@jasongrace4005 yesir!
Bavitz has two brothers: Christopher T. Bavitz[8] (born 1973), a clinical professor at Harvard Law School and director of Cyberlaw Clinic at the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society, and Graham J. Bavitz (born 1978).
@@_Jake.From.Statefarm_ I just looked him up man, the resemblance is definitely there.
This was a really fun reaction. You guys have great chemistry and followed along really well. Also i like the pacing of stopping and reviewing
It's childhood trauma. Moments that shape your way to process the world. Parents are just as clueless as anyone.
"Granny yelling go cubs, cubs aint playing.." you basically said it.. watching a gopher get beaten to death will scar or "change" a kid. As in the "cubs" that began the game were no longer by the end
Both teams lose..
Every child tried as adult..
Its actually an extremely clever and elegant way to summarize the story he just told you in a single line
A lot of commenters touched on this stuff already, so I'm just here to amplify. It's called Blood Sandwich because it's about his older and younger brother and he's the middle child (so a familial blood "sandwich" with his brothers as the bread and him as the middle). The track is about Aes missing his brothers, so he decides to share two anecdotes about them. Chuck got the first verse right, so brain cell to Chuck? 😁First verse is Aes at his younger brother's little league game. A gopher pops up, causes the kids to get distracted, coach annihilates gopher with a bat in front of everyone, game gets cancelled, but granny had her nose in a word search so didn't realize the game was over. You guys got the gist of the second verse about his older brother getting denied a Ministry concert by his out of touch religious parents.
"GOOoooo CUUUuuuuBS!"
...Cubs ain't playin'.
Cubs ain't playing, to me, means after seeing the gopher beaten to death, made them grow up. No longer cubs. A scene that would try every child as adults. That line represents the lost innocence of kids that saw that go down. That's what I took from it, anyway.
Aes is never saying what he's directly saying. Dude is amazing.
I'm glad you've been exposed to Aes and I hope you dig into his discography. He's been around 25+ years and he's never had a lull moment. I think to help get maximum enjoyment, listen with an imaginative ear when he gets "expressive and symbolic" otherwise, it'll be easy to just dismiss his lyricism as full of fluff. Everything means something.
Try Kodokushi, Gauze, Boot Soup, Holy Waterfalls or Jumping Coffin since they're all from the same album and it'll give you a taste of what he's capable of while being catchy as hell. This man has DEPTH.
"I've been ignored for longer than you been interested"
@@Appreciation-Community I love that line! There are so many quotables from, honestly, every song!
Hey guys you have great taste. Love Propagandhi, Bad Religion and Thrice reactions you do
Aes is my favorite hip-hop artist. He spins tales about everyday stuff but builds metaphors in that touch on broader themes. He can take a while to get used to. The first part of the song is a story about his brothers little league game where the coach killed a gopher. His grandma is doing a word search in the bleachers and is not paying attention.
BTW Aes does most of his production these days
It's crazy to think that Aesop's production has reached the same heights as his lyrics.
He got them metal fingers
What Aes can do is take mundane stories and flesh them out such that are interesting exploration into normal life.
Did you guys watch the film clip or just the audio track? The film clip helps with understanding the lyrics
Granny has dementia. She does not understand what's going on around her.
Baseball? Go cubs!
Gams don’t know the name of his team just took them there
GO CUBS!!
