I guess the graphs are hard to read. 3:22 - 3:38 shows each muffler brand (Flowmaster 50 series, Magnaflow, Borla Pro XS and Black Widow Venom) with HP/TQ. Black Widow takes the win, even though their all close enough that one wouldn't feel the difference. He states at 2:29 the "Borla and the Venom were the best of the group."
It's interesting that peak horsepower is about the same. In my own experience, headers made the most improvement in normal driving, and in mileage. It would be nice to know which type of muffler produced the best torque below peak power.
chambered mufflers dont flow nearly as much as a baffled turbo like a borla bullet vs a super 44 flowmaster but they make about the same Hp. thats the real reason they didnt show any resukts. cause there isnt a real difference you'd see in a street car with the correct sized exhaust. CFM flow isnt the end all be all
FINALLY !! Steve Brule and Westec Performance (someone with some brains) decided to conduct a realistic comparison of exhaust system performance. Every wrench out there always has something to say about exhaust and they are always right. Well done Steve, finally some engineering information to back things up out there. Basically, it doesn't make much difference to the average driver on the road, it's just noise out the back end. If you are really serious about performance, just go with open exhaust and deal with the consequences, otherwise, get in your car in the parking lot and shut up.
The engine needs a balance between air intake volume and exhaust air/gas volume, and any restriction in the muffler. A 250-300hp stock 350 will not see any benefit of headers and a 3" pipe, but it will see power gains with a low restriction muffler, so a 2.5" would be more than good enough.
All the whining, First muffler: Flowmaster 50 series 455 Second: Magnaflow 452 Third: Borla ProXS 454 Fourth: Black Widow Venom 456 Approximate values.
I figured that straight through designed mufflers like race, outlaw, and glasspack style mufflers would have the most CFM airflow. Or am I incorrect in my reasoning?

Westech is great but this is truly a wasted video. Read all the other comments warning you to not waste your time and then click to something else. The bottom line for me is, they did all the work and then refused to say which was better at anything. In the middle he let's it slip that only Borla and Venom make any difference and it's all below peak. My guess is Flowmaster sponsored the test and wouldn't let them say Borla was better.
Are you sure that’s a magnaflow muffler?? First off that is the only one I’ve ever seen that didn’t have “magnaflow” stamped in the side. I’ve also never seen one with weld marks in the center of the muffler which leads me to believe it’s a chambered muffler, which I’ve also never seen magnaflow use...
He said borla and venoms flow the best and are almost the same. That's black widow venom mufflers he's talking about. Good thing I ditched the flowmasters and installed the venom 250s on my mustang.

@@KingJT80 Maybe. But a venom 250 or borla muffler will flow better than a thrush or say flowmaster. You can look thru the muffler and see. But a venom 250 is going to sound wicked compared to the other muffs. I have those on my 380hp 302 1966 mustang and can attest to that.

I believe that the RED line [3:12] (Magna Flow) pretty much sucked almost to 5500 then got in line with everyone else. I wonder where Dynaflow would graph out.
Yeah, it really wasn’t the best comparison but I believe you are correct. I ended up buying the MagnaFlo cross flow muffler. I guess I’ll see how that does. What I liked is that muffler combines two mufflers into one with a cross pipe and that works better for me due to a narrow tunnel between my frame rails.
How come no stock v8 as well ? so you didn't bother to show the results ????? so did you think you would get sued if you exposed low numbers on expensive performance mufflers??
All 4 dyno graphs are compared and then the individual graphs shown at the end of the video. And Brulé states that all 4 made essentially the same peak power with different torque curves due to muffler design differences. It's amazing that people can't seem to watch a sub- 4 minute video all the way through. "Why not test on a stock V8?" Because if you see no major difference on a much more powerful V8 you certainly won't on an engine moving much less air.
@@of_lion22 the reason I mention stock or slightly above stock motors is because not everybody has $ 5000 .00 + engine when most of your average joes own stock motors . would be nice to use a stock crate 350 or 318 or 302 on future test for us average low buget Joe's
