travisp11 That's okay bud! We knew what you meant. I'm fluent in what someone means and not what they actually said... after all, I'm married! Hee hee! LMBO! 😂 Just kidding, any married ladies-I totally appreciate, love and respect my wife and all ladies (was raised primarily by women). Heck, all I have to do is grunt and my sweet wife knows what I'm saying. Lol! It's amazing how we as spouses can get to know each other so well after the years that we both think alike. That's connection and love.
travisp11 Thank you very much Travis! I appreciate that. I try to keep a sense of humor even during dark times. lol! 😀 Take care buddy and God bless! The Rev
Reverend Tim Fey It is always awesome hearing from you! I don't try to make the videos funny yet I always seem to think up a bit of humor to add! You get well, Rev!
After owning both a PT99 and a 92fs, this is what I've experienced... Taurus owner- It's just as good, made on Beretta equipment, safety/decocker is better placed, blah blah, while secretly wishing it was a Beretta and pretending not to notice people's faces when you explain it's not a Beretta, but just as good. Beretta owner- Trying to explain to people how much superior your gun is to the Taurus to justify the cost, but still being smug because it says Beretta on the slide. All the while wishing it had a frame mounted decocker/safety. End result- Both guns run exactly the same.
Infinite Defiance I say we split the difference and buy an Italian police surplus 92S from Classic Firearms for $300, wish we had a frame mounted safety, smile cuz it's a real Beretta and spend the rest of our time thinking of ways around that pesky Euro-style heel mag release!
I've had my Taurus PT-92 AFS-D (chrome) for over 2 years now and all I can say is that it is the most all-around solid handgun I own. I absolutely love it. Zero failures and that reset is nice and smooth. It's my edc and I don't plan on changing that anytime soon. Having shot the 92FS before it, I was amazed at what a gun you got for the price with the PT-92. Good review and I agree with everything you stated. My brother is retired military and he carried a 92FS as his service sidearm throughout his career and made the remark that he wished they had the decocker on the frame like the Taurus. He went out and bought one for himself the next day. I don't recommend many Taurus models at all, but this one is a solid 10/10.
you still stand by this for edc? looking for a first edc and these extremely compact barrels and grips that I've tried at the range are wayyy too uncomfortable and snappy.
@David Kuykendall oh yes I know I have written about it I have carried both for duty and while I do prefer the pt92 the fact is the Beretta is the better weapon for all the reasons you just stated accessory compatibility quality the fact that it's mil-spec excetera excetera. I just really prefer the frame mountain safety Beretta has come out with a new version that has a frame mounted safety now but it cost twice as much. One thing I would mention though is that Taurus magazines will work in Beretta's but Beretta mags will not work in a Taurus without modification which is easy to do.
ParasidicGeneration Hi PG! 😀 Hope you are doing well. I've seen you on some similar channels that I also visit and just wanted to say hello. I just discovered your channel and saw you've got the same Bersa. How's that running for you? Our (wife's) Bersa Thunder has these failure to feed on the last round of the magazine every time. It's gotten a little better, but it's new and really stiff trying to rack that slide and get the rounds into the magazine. Probably just needs some more breaking in. Just thought it was cool that we had the same gun. Take care of yourself and God bless. 👍 The Rev.
ParasidicGeneration Right on! Great to hear. 😀 Hopefully, I'll be talking with you sometime soon over on your channel. Until, take it easy and best wishes.
Better than the M9 or the 92fs a1? The m9 and a1 also have the rail, a flared mag well. The pt92 copied the m9 and almost identically. The only thing I like better on the pt92 is the safety and it's location. Even with that, I would take the beretta all day hands down. It's the original!
30 years ago I choose the Taurus P92 over the Beretta due to price for basically the same gun. I have never been disappointed with it, it has never failed on me and stayed accurate this whole time. It was my first hand gun purchased back when I was in my 20's without much money. After 30 years I've collected many 9mm's and my brother finally decided to buy a hand gun last year. I took him to the range with a variety of my hand guns, S&W 9mm, the Shield, the Walther PPQ etc... After shooting them all, he went and bought a S.S. version of the Taurus PT92! He was buying for home defense and range shooting, not concealed carry just to note. For concealed carry I bought and love the Taurus G2! After shooting and carrying that for over a year I went and bought a second G2 on sale for $189.00 LOL Seriously in my opinion, Taurus deserves a better reputation and THANKS for providing low cost, high quality products! I think half the public rates products on how much they paid for them rather then their true quality or value!! Just saying
@@travisp11 Taurus got a bad rep because they put out a whole host of junk for a while. Even with guns like the PT92, which has been around for many years and everyone knows how great it is, it;s still tough to recover from a decade of garbage guns and poor customer service. I was unlucky enough to own a couple of those junk guns but I also have a PT92 and love it.
Beretta uses a plastic guide rod because they want to save on weight. Either way, for the price the Beretta is a hell of a deal. Forged milled steel slide and a forged milled aluminum alloy frame, steel sights. The plastic guide rod doesn't bother me one bit since Glock is the same price now and they have plastic sights and a plastic guide rod. The Beretta has far better and more elaborate craftsmanship and is still the same price. I would rather the Beretta have a beveled mag well but that is a small gripe and you can easily do it yourself.
@David Tabing Jr. I spent a month researching and trying different full size guns and just bought a CZ sp-01 tactical because it's the most accurate all steel built to last and comfortable gun I could find,I have no regrets what so ever I have over 1000 rounds in and not one problem and accuracy is unreal
I have a steel guide rod inside of my 92f, and I had no idea Beretta was doing this. I own three Berettta semi auto's and all three have steel guide rods...
Another reason to buy a Taurus PT92 is because it has a life time warranty. I bought one that was worn out and rusted from a pawn shop. It was a steal at $150 bucks. I took it and sent it to Taurus and they refurbished it for free. Great deal and great pistol.
I love the frame mounted safety on my PT-92AF . I've been shooting it since 96 and sill functions like a champ. At the time i couldn't justify the extra $230 for the Baretta - and I still can't!
I have had many of both guns, The Beretta has a [[ plastic guide rod and plastic controls ]] the Taurus has a steel guide rod and controls and is half the price.
Remember that the Taurus is a Beretta, its not a clone. Taurus bought the Beretta factory and rights to produce the pistol in early 80s. Plus, Taurus improved the gun during its production. PT92 an P100 are still in production....awesome gun!
Thanks for your review Travis. Over the past 20 years I've owned a Taurus PT99 and PT92. The PT99 has an adjustable rear sight, otherwise they are the same pistol. I qualified for my Texas license to carry with the PT99 with a near perfect score.
Currently this is the standard pistol of the Brazilian Armed Forces, adopted in 1975 and known as "Modelo M975". Very reliable and appreciated for having a better security system than the Beretta M9.
Você realmente gosta muito do sistema de segurança/desarmador da PT92, pois declarou isto por duas vezes consecutivas! Agradeço pela qualidade do vídeo e de suas opiniões!
UziNineMillomeetah I'm not a taurus guy at all, I own a few and I'm generally not impressed, I started with a berreta 92f but sold it because I don't like slide mounted decockers/safety..but I recently picked up a pt92af for a great price and really like the frame mounted decocker and how you can carry cocked and locked if you so please, I've shot it side by side with a 92fs with a buddy that used a M9 in the Navy and even he prefers the pt92af, this is by far the best taurus I've ever picked up and can hang with any brand in my opinion, I love my cz's, glocks,Sig's but I'm very impressed with the pt92af for the price
@@Deadtileyedie Until this year and the release of several very well made 1911's the 92AF was by far the very best in quality made pistol in the Taurus line. I myself like the changes that Taurus made to the gun over the Beretta design it isn't as odd-man-out and definitely is far more appealing to those that are familiar with 1911 styled controls. Granted there are some Taurus pistols that you couldn't give me because of how horrible they are but I would take a 92AF over a M&P v1 S&W all day.
I'd afraid to face a person with a Taurus PT92 because his gun has a metal guide rod and a frame-mounted thumb safety. And his PT92 is superior for being cheaper!!!!
In the mid-to-late 80's I had my own FFL and around 1987 I bought both the Beretta 92FS and the Taurus PT-92 and found the less-pricey Taurus to be every bit as good as the Beretta. In 1987 my cost (dealer cost) on a blued Taurus PT-92 was only $239 but at that time the PT-92 did not have a de-cocker like they do now but I was okay with it. Sadly, I sold both pistols but I from that experience I was seriously impressed with the Taurus PT-92. I believe my cost on the stainless model was only $259 at the time.
I was just at a LGS and have always wondered what the differences were. I always wanted a Beretta 92, but now that there really ain't much of a difference between the two I may get the Taurus. Heck I may just get them both. Another good review in my book. Thanks a lot and keep em coming.
dl dixon Thank you for watching! Both pistols feel nearly identical in the hand as well as the trigger pull. I honestly don't think you can go wrong with either one.
Currently this is the standard pistol of the Brazilian Armed Forces, adopted in 1975 and known as "Modelo M975". Very reliable and appreciated for having a better security system than the Beretta M9.
Ditto. My two favorite guns are Taurus. PT-845, 12+1 round double-stacked hammer-fired 45acp that I got for $268 new, super-reliable and accurate. And my Taurus PT638, 15+1 380ACP with like 0 recoil; can fire 15 round as fast as I can and keep them in a combat-effective grouping.
travisp11 The first handgun I could buy myself when I turned 21 was a Taurus Model 66 .357 Magnum revolver. It's never failed me, hasn't fallen out of time yet and has fired all manners of heavy loads without a problem. I'm now 37 and still have it. I just bought the second PT92 I've ever owned, no jams, goes bang every time so far.
I almost bought berreta but luckily the shop i went to had tarus for 200 cheaper so of course i settled for tarus and i couldnt be more happier i got a tarus and now im tarus for life baby its a way better gun
I have both. Just bought an Italian made 92FS Inox Ghost, made in 1990. The Taurus is my "night stand gun" and has the crimson trace laser / flashlight on the rail. For that reason alone, the Beretta would never replace it. Since most things bad happen at night when the house is dark, that's a requirement for a home defense gun in my opinion. I haven't shot it a ton, but the Taurus has been 100% reliable, easy to shoot with very minimal recoil due to its heft. I JUST bought the Beretta and haven't shot it yet, but I expect it will shoot just as well as the Taurus. If I could only keep one, for sure it would be the Taurus just for the rail and decocker location alone. Of course the Italian made 92FS Inox ghost is worth WAY more, but as far as utility, the Taurus wins.
The Ghost 92 is an awesome color combo! I don’t blame ya for trusting the Taurus, though. I regret selling mine. The temptation is always there to buy one back.
Very good review! Non biased, both great guns. The PT92 is solid! Might be one of the best Taurus makes, but you can't deny Beretta! Best bet is buy both, lol.
Taurus do make some good guns, it's just that their rep is ruined by some of the shit they've put out. I've got a 357 Tracker revolver by them, and I love it.
Currently this is the standard pistol of the Brazilian Armed Forces, adopted in 1975 and known as "Modelo M975". Very reliable and appreciated for having a better security system than the Beretta M9.
Technically the Taurus was made on Beretta machining so is it really a Taurus? I love my Taurus! For 350.00 New at Academy Sports I couldn't pass it up!
I have converted some of the M9 Beretta magazines for use in the PT92. The Taurus PT92AF has become my all around weapon. Something you missed that the Taurus has over the Beretta is the warranty.
I have the Taurus with trigger work, target sights and Pachmeyer grips. It's my regular sidearm for the past 30 years or so. Wouldn't take two Beretta's for it.
I have owned the 92 fs. I now own two pt 92s, there is a reason for this. It's all around better hand gun. I love the 92fs, but much better hand gun in the pt 92.
The reason I never bothered with the PT92 is because it doesn't take Beretta 92 mags. The Beretta 92FS is a staple in my collection and having to buy different mags to a gun that is "basically" the same is a major turn off. This however makes the Girsan Regard 92 clone a little more desirable.
I got my Taurus Pt 92AF in the early 90's. It came with a 15 round mag that was grandfathered in with the ban on mags over 10 rounds. The new 17 round mags work fine in it. I did look at traveling with it and found traveling to states that ban wepons that can hold over 10 rounds could be a problem. So I took my TAURUS MILLENNIUM® G2 PISTOL , 40 S&W 10+1 RDS STAINLESS which did not pose a problem. I would like to say that when flying with a handgun, I have never had my luggage in better care.
John Brown That is a good point! Yeah, when you travel you have to obey their law of the land with regards to magazines, unless that state allows you to travel through with the magazines you brought from home. I know some states allow out of state residents to use their standard or higher capacity magazines if they have a concealed carry permit or are allowed those mags back home. Thanks for watching!
I had to contact the Highway Patrol in that state and they told me no one ever asked this before. They said most officers would not know what was legal. They said if I could bring a pistol that only had a 10 round mag, that would guarentee that there woulld be no problem.
Love me some 92 but I just bought a pt92 afs-d . Not worried about rounds. I usually carry a lcp2 with extra mag but the pt is basically a Beretta with a better safety location
It is a wash between these two pistols I have shot and owned both and I have to say I like the control locations and ambi orientation of the Taurus and honestly in terms of quality fit and finish they are both extremely high quality manufactured. I think it boils down to how it feels in the hand and how comfortable you are with the controls. nice comparison
My cousin was in that navy as a corpmen attached to the marine 1-9 he carried a m9 in combat but when he came home he always went for the Taurus (he had a personal m9/92 not sure he could of carried)
Nice video. I have them both and really only bought the Beretta M9 for collection purposes as it serves as our Great Nation's Military's primary sidearm (not dissing Beretta in that I think they are a premiere firearms company that produces impeccable product; in fact, I have a Beretta 21A that has been one of the best single most solid reliable pistol's I've ever owned in 22lr to boot which is generally more finicky than the .25 acp version). That said, my Taurus is every bit the gun that the Beretta is for substantially less money--for many people this means they can uses the extra savings for ammo, mags, etc. as stated in the video. But to be sure, one is not sacrificing quality/reliability going with the Taurus. I say get both. *Happy Thanksgiving to All!*
@@travisp11 it was very informative! I just found out about this amazing Taurus handgun today. I've been a Beretta 92FS fan for a very long time, and was really looking into them, but the price has been a little out of my price range. I wanted to know if this Taurus was worth the money, and how well it held up against the Beretta in comparison, and your video showed me everything I wanted to know. I'll definitely try to watch more of your videos and leave likes and comments as I go! Thanks a ton man, stay safe and have a great night!
The PT92 was my duty weapon when I worked for the Sheriffs dept. It was blued with wood grips.....I NEVER, EVER had ANY failures of any type. I loved it and was sorry I had to sell it when we moved back to Australia.
I have both a PT92 and Beretta 92 and they are both great guns but the Taurus feels better to me and smother, also the safety placement is miles ahead of the Beretta.
Since I am looking the 92 style of handgun for concealed carry, I will be opting for the Beretta. I prefer the shorter grip which makes it easier to conceal. Add to that the ability to add a skeletonized hammer and a safety-to-decocker only conversion kit to the 92FS, I end up with an excellent 92G like Beretta without the 92G pricing. I can also purchase Recover grips with a built in pic rail frame shroud for a small amount of money, and now I have a full custom tactical Beretta for less money than a M9A3. I do not have those kind of customization options for the Taurus.
@@travisp11 Yeah I am actually looking at the blue steel M9. I can pick one up for just under $600. With the upgrades I mentioned above, the final price comes out to $710. While the Taurus is hard to beat in value ($400) I just do not get the same aftermarket support.
saving up to replace my current edc with a pt92. honestly i think its the superior firearm. a big part of that is the safety location. i have no idea why Beretta decided placing the safety on the slide was a good idea when introducing this weapon in the US military trials. especially since previous open breach design pistols from Beretta like the cheetah had the safety on the fucking frame! and since the US was coming off of the 1911 which has a frame mounted safety, youd think they would keep it in the same place so as to provide a more familiar control system to the users they were marketing to. taurus was smarter about it and placed it in an area that is easier and quicker to actuate. then there is the price. you can find these brand new as low as $380 maybe a little less if you can find a decent sale. making this about 200 dollars cheaper. 200 buckaroos buys you like 1500 rounds depending on where you get it from, which in turn provides a lot of trigger time to increase proficiency. or it can go to accessories and training. overall unless youre a massive Beretta fan and just have to have the genuine article i dont see a real reason why anyone would prefer the standard 92fs over the pt92.
You won't regret it. I've been carrying my PT-92 for over 2 years now and it's the most solid handgun I've ever had. Love it! Few thousand rounds through it and it still runs like the day I bought it. Smooth ass trigger also.
Just got a pt afs from back in 92. Older model, no lock, has decocker. So far, many parts do swap with OLDER models. Barrel and block drop in from either my S or Girsan. Ill be testing the trigger bar. I understand the take down switch is different due to spring placement. Trigger spring looks like it should go as well. Its beretta dna...just a different branch of thought between two designers with beretta tooling.
Well the Taurus has a longer barrel and has i think the longest 9mm pistol barrel, wich means its shots a bit stronger like u said the Taurus has 5 inch and the berreta 4'9 wich is not much difference but its a difference and the Taurus has more magazine capicity with standart magazine 17 not 15 shots and both over 30 after market magazine and the Taurus is cheaper so more plus points for the Taurus and the Taurus is also in the movie with the beretta in City of God and its the standart pistol in GTA 5
I don't know why Beretta hasn't taken Taurus's lead and move the safety to the frame. Same goes for the Beretta Storm. Why do they insist it be on the slide.
Its tough to get the designer of a gun to let the one who copies their product, take the lead. Beretta is a proven military pistol. The Taurus is a range toy, and home defense gun.
Taurus isn’t a copy. Beretta contracted Taurus out to make parts then left the equipment in Brazil. They had permission to keep production under the contract is why they weren’t sued.
I use to think that in the past as well. But now I know, It's just more reliable. Taurus is having huge issues on accidental discharges while using the decocker. Also, the firing pin located under the rear sight it turned into a very dangerous project. When you drop the gun there is a chance of moving the rear sight and losing the firing pin spring. Basically, Beretta is lot more reliable than Taurus.
Guide rod, trigger, lanyard loop, magazine release, and safety are plastic on the Beretta 92. But for under 90.00USD you can get the parts from Beretta. The parts are very easy to put in the weapon. Have 2 of them and my off duty carry has had the above parts replaced with Stainless as was the barrel. The barrel was the hardest part to get and the most expensive. As to the safety I have not had an issue with using it in 10+ years working for the Ok Mil Dept PD.
If I didn't already own the 92F, I would choose the Taurus because of Taurus's commitment to quality, the life time warranty, and price. My 92f has a steel guide rod, I checked it with a magnet and it is the original factory piece I got with the weapon...
Thank you for remaining as unbiased as possible. I'm debating over purchasing the stainless Taurus and the Inox Beretta. Leaning more towards the Taurus
does it matter 2 more bullets? 15+1 or 17+1 why the excitement for the +1 15 or 17 is more than enough for a single clip especially shooting at the range
It is nice having an additional round or two in a pistol grip that does not take up any more room than the standard pistol grip that you would normally get. As for the excitement with the extra rounds...those may come in handy if you need to defend yourself against multiple attackers.
@@travisp11 You guys make me laugh, I am a certified collector with hundreds of firearms in Canada , we are limited to 10 bullets in a handgun, 5 in center fire rifle and 10 rim fire we have no attackers , however I still go to the range with my wife to shoot , she only likes revolvers even though they have less bullets but they are much easier to reload. I have some bad news for you, some states are preparing to limit the purchase to 1 a month handgun or a rifle also limit the capacity of the magazines , they consider this would not infringe on your constitutional right to own guns.
David Ronson I hear ya. I follow our state law closely here in Nebraska. I live in a town with a low crime and murder rate but if I would ever have a home invasion or attacker I’m happy having as many opportunities as possible to stop that person or group. I’m fine having 17 + 1 in my bedside gun.
I've been taking an interest in Taurus' pistols for quite some time and I have heard that the PT 92 and their 1911 are good quality guns for their price points. In all honesty I'm more of a 1911 guy, but the PT 92 doesn't seem half bad for the money.
travisp11 I have a friend who has the Beretta and both of us agree that the slide mounted safety is an annoyance at the very least. I have a frustrating tendency to hit the safety when racking the slide and I seriously wonder why Beretta thinks it's necessary for them to put the safety on the slide.
Benjamin Danielsen Your guess is as good as mine. I tend to top slide charge my semi auto pistols and the chunky decocker, safety lever makes for an uncomfortable purchase/grip.
travisp11 in my experience with slide mounted safety guns, the best way to rack it is by using a "slingshot" method. Use your strong hand, make a fist, put the slide between your thumb and index finger (make sure your thumb is under the safety), and pull the slide rearward.
Five year old video and the same question is still being asked today. Which one? Both for me. Both are solid performers. The Beretta has a bit more polish, but as the comments suggest, the Taurus is indeed a fine choice.
I've had the PT92 for about twenty years now. Never had a problem with it. The sights are adjustable which helps me immensely. I've fired the M9 (the military version of the 92) when I was a military policeman in the Army. I prefer the PT92, its a great range gun.
I have several Berettas FS and S and 2 Taurus PT92 in stainless I love them both and both are fantastic shooters and lookers. Keep in mind that Taurus is using the foundary and tooling that once belong to Beretta in Brazil but sold to Taurus
For the 92FS, the magazine capacity is easily fixed. Beretta and Mec-Gar makes 17, 20 and 30 round magazines. Yes, in the case of the 30 round, it was made for the CX4, but all 92 series magazines between the two are interchangeable with each other.
How long would it have taken to tell the story of how Taurus bought the old Beretta factory in Brazil in 1980 and changed the 92-f slightly to get the PT-92, and it's obviously why it's almost identical?
lessevdoolbretsim I thought that I had mentioned how the Taurus was built at a previous Beretta plant. Honestly, it didn't occur to me at the time of filming to tell the background story of the PT92.
I chose the PT92 (a pair) and PT99 (a pair), a PT917 (basically a PT92 with a 4" barrel), and a 40 caliber PT100 because the safety is on the frame instead of the slide. I find the slide mount is easier to use, and when I was looking, the Beretta was about $130 more for essentially the same pistol and I can buy a lot of ammunition for $130. I've never had a malfunction with any of my Taurus pistols, and also have a pair of nickle PT58 model in .380 caliber, and a PT709 in 9mm.
I just found your video and thank you for it. My first EDC was a Taurus PT-92. I am now looking for a new PT-92. So i choose the PT-92. But i have never shot a 92FS. So i could be a little one sided.
Bought a beretta 92fs... Just because it was my first airsoft gun lol sold it and bought a Taurus... Rail... Safety position... I carry it a lot lol Will probably buy an used old beretta just to have it around but yeah ... For carrying... Taurus
She ran fine for years before I traded her. No issues and it is one of the few Taurus pistols that Taurus haters really don't rag on because it has a very good track record
Buying the Beretta now, I just can't buy a Taurus version when I can get a Beretta, there's a reason Taurus and many others have replicated it....why not get the original?
I have a taurus PT 92 (no decocker), and a Beretta 96D. Love them both, and have noticed the only difference I ever have is ammo. Taurus will eat everything, including steel case Beretta can be kinda finicky
@@travisp11 I'm thinking that, and something to do with the feed ramps, certain bullet geometries just dont like the Beretta feed ramp, and it can be the most minute difference in shape
@@stephenkoski2166 I hear ya. I especially notiuce feeding issues with Critical Defense. Some of the feeding ramps catch on the front of the bullet with the poly tip.
Bryan Baker My PT92 has been rock solid. Check out some of the long term tests on YT. There are several approaching the 10-15 year old mark and I have yet to hear anything bad about the gun. You should be fine if you buy one.
Doug DA For somebody on that dividing line between going the budget route or spending a bit more, I wanted to inform the consumer on the specs, overall feel, accuracy, fit and finish, etc.
Doug DA don't let that fool you. Taurus gets a bad rap but I've owned 3 different taurus guns. 2 semi autos and a 5 shot ultra lite revolver, and every one of them were accurate and went boom when I pulled the trigger, which ultimately is the most important thing. I used them all at various times as my concealed carry gun, meaning I felt they were good enough that I trusted my life with them. Sometimes the more expensive gun isn't the best. Believe it or not I've owned both a glock 19 and smith and Wesson m&p that both had more ftf's and/or stovepipes than any of my taurus firearms
I shoot an M9. Paid $600 for it new. No issues. No gripes about the the slide mounted safety/decocker. I like the fact that when rotated to the safe position, the sear is disengaged and the rear portion of the firing pin is rotated out of alignment. My brother had a PT92 years ago and had nothing but trouble with it.
@@travisp11 Not to mention the fact that some of the upgrade parts for the M9/92FS may not even fit in the PT92 due to some of the relocation of certain parts.
Taurus has a pretty good warranty as far as I know. Sometimes they don't fix the problem and your gun keeps going back and forth, but there is no time limit.
Seth B I would say that the Taurus PT92 is a safe bet. It has been in production for quite a while and in conversations with other gun owners on UA-cam, the PT92 is many times the ONLY Taurus that these people would consider buying.
I might try another Taurus sometime, but I went though 3 in less than a month. The all had feeding issues after 500 Rounds. Maybe they have finally gotten that fixed. As for the Berettas lifespan, its longer than most peoples, over 100 Thousand rounds. Taurus PT92 probably wont go that long. But if you only shoot occasionally, it might be all you need.,
Doug west The PT92 has been in production for a very long time and it is one of the few Taurus Semis that doesn't get scoffing looks from other gun owners. They are solid, all metal and Beretta influenced. I'd say for under $400, they are one of the better all metal pistols on the market. I rarely hear or read about PT92 owners that have problems with the pistols.
That's good to know. I had 3 of them in the first month of their release. (They came out when I was in my mid 20s) They were Not so good at that time. They frustrated me so much I have avoided them completely for over 25 years. If they are working guns now, I think ill try another one to see how it shoots.
A brand new girsan 92 is 400 brand new I am with you love the taurus frame mounted safety decocker is the way to go but hate the barrrel sticking out have my taurus barrel crowned to the slide remmember the taurus pt92 is based on the orignal model
The 92 is the best gun Taurus makes. I bought one in 1990 as my first gun and it's been flawless but I always wished it was a Beretta and the resale will always be $200 less than the Beretta. I've got a handful of Berettas now and some parts are interchangeable between the Beretta and Taurus. The Beretta mags can be modified to fit the Taurus and Beretta, the barrels are even interchangeable (at least the models I have). The frame mounted safety is much more intuitive on the Taurus IMHO. If cost dictates you getting or not getting either then the Taurus will serve you well.
I went through the purchase decision back in 2008 and wound up buying the Taurus PT92SS. It has the accessory rail and I have a laser mounted on it. I've never compared it to a Beretta 92FS but my son owns a Glock 17 and we've taken them to the range together several times. Both of us felt the Taurus was smoother and more accurate than the Glock. The Glock is, of course, lighter. The only drawback of the PT92 is that, I'm told, it doesn't like to feed steel cased ammo, although the rounds in the video came out of the Taurus and they are indeed steel cased.
mags are "compatible" between both. the Beretta mags need to have the catch hole filed larger on the top side of the hole. PT mags go in the Beretta and catch, but sit low and can cause feed issues. that being said, you can cup n saucer the grip and use either mag. honestly, the same can be said for the Sig 320, Springfield XD, Taurus g111 and the Beretta px4. i have an identical PT92 with wood grips.
Oops, meant to say cut away slide, not cut away barrel as well as soldiers not liking the slide mounted safety decocker, not frame-mounted.

That's okay bud!
Reverend Tim Fey Well said, sir!

Thank you very much Travis! I appreciate that. I try to keep a sense of humor even during dark times. lol! 😀 Take care buddy and God bless!

My 1st gun was a Taurus PT92 over 30 years ago, and I still have it.
Infinite Defiance Yeah, more or less.
Infinite Defiance I say we split the difference and buy an Italian police surplus 92S from Classic Firearms for $300, wish we had a frame mounted safety, smile cuz it's a real Beretta and spend the rest of our time thinking of ways around that pesky Euro-style heel mag release!
@David Kuykendall dude...while you may be correct and all that your attitude all around sucks.
@Elipsis ..
I own a Taurus P-92, and have owned the Barretta 92 FS. It is the same gun save for the slide/frame safety format...Taurus wins.
I have the exact same gun, and I can’t say enough good things about it. I love it and will never get ride of it.
you still stand by this for edc? looking for a first edc and these extremely compact barrels and grips that I've tried at the range are wayyy too uncomfortable and snappy.
The PT92 is manufactured in a Beretta 92 factory...
Paul O'Neal yup!
Not True, Beretta DOSE NOT own it they USED TO BEFORE the PT92 was made there by Taurus "which is NOT Beretta".
@David Kuykendall There was a Beretta model that had the safety on the frame.
@David Kuykendall Beretta eventually just allowed that patent to expire.
I've had my ss pt 92 since nineties. Love it. No complaints.
Abram Vemable mine has been nothing but reliable
I agreed with you Guys Taurus pt92 is a Solid Rock.
call me crazy but i like the taurus pt92 better
ParasidicGeneration Me too, bro!
ParasidicGeneration
Hi PG! 👍
The Rev.
Reverend Tim Fey hey thanks bud my bersa is running flawless
ParasidicGeneration
Right on!
Just saying
They have made major improvements over the years and they do deserve more credit.
@@SuperUncleRyan I hear ya. They need to work on speeding up repairs and customer service.
For the price Beretta should not be giving you a plastic guide rod .
MATT DYLAN I agree!
It’s a part that does not receive stress and reduces forward weight. You can get one for $15. That’s my plan.
That’s awesome!
I love the frame mounted safety on my PT-92AF . I've been shooting it since 96 and sill functions like a champ. At the time i couldn't justify the extra $230 for the Baretta - and I still can't!
NNITRED Good point!
how many rounds do you think you put thru your taurus
I paid just $350. for my Beretta 92f with just one magazine through it, and it was delivered to my home in a Pelican case that was free...
@David Kuykendall : The PT92 also went through changes to fit the Brazilian military's needs
I have had many of both guns, The Beretta has a [[ plastic guide rod and plastic controls ]] the Taurus has a steel guide rod and controls and is half the price.
The Taurus offers a great value!
I have the Taurus PT92 and love it! Mine also shoots a little low and left. It’s definitely my favorite pistol.
Right on!
Remember that the Taurus is a Beretta, its not a clone. Taurus bought the Beretta factory and rights to produce the pistol in early 80s. Plus, Taurus improved the gun during its production. PT92 an P100 are still in production....awesome gun!
Yup! All strong points. I agree!
Taurus didn't buy the rights. The copyright was allowed to expire.
Although I have a vintage pt92 afs-d, my beretta 92f/s is my primary home defense handgun cause I think it more a proven weapon militarily.
Thanks for your review Travis. Over the past 20 years I've owned a Taurus PT99 and PT92. The PT99 has an adjustable rear sight, otherwise they are the same pistol. I qualified for my Texas license to carry with the PT99 with a near perfect score.
Right on!!
Currently this is the standard pistol of the Brazilian Armed Forces, adopted in 1975 and known as "Modelo M975". Very reliable and appreciated for having a better security system than the Beretta M9.
jggf62 personally, I like the location of the safety/decocker better on the PT92
jggf62 personally, I like the location of the safety/decocker better on the PT92
Você realmente gosta muito do sistema de segurança/desarmador da PT92, pois declarou isto por duas vezes consecutivas!
Agradeço pela qualidade do vídeo e de suas opiniões!
Love my millenium 380
Muito interessante as Forças Armadas do Brasil terem adorado a plataforma Beretta dez anos antes dos EUA.
Great vid man. This particular Taurus is the one that seems to get the most praise.
+UziNineMillomeetah She is a solid choice.
I was going to get the beretta originally but the price was so high. I went with the Taurus instead
Right on!
Mike Hawk That is some good information! Thanks for watching!
I have the Taurus PT92AFS for 20 years no problems.
Greetings from South Africa.
Thank you for watching
I've had my PT 100 for almost 27 years and have not had one single malfunction.
Dan Schutz I have been happy with every Taurus that I have purchased. They make good firearms.
Dan Schutz Very nice collection!
Jim Carpenter Nice!
travisp11 The first handgun I could buy myself when I turned 21 was a Taurus Model 66 .357 Magnum revolver. It's never failed me, hasn't fallen out of time yet and has fired all manners of heavy loads without a problem. I'm now 37 and still have it. I just bought the second PT92 I've ever owned, no jams, goes bang every time so far.
It's been a while since I've seen the Taurus PT92. Great comparison!
KSGunGuy 01 It's in my range rotation but Stan keeps me stocked up with something new every week. It is my go to basement self defense pistol.
travisp11 that's a good problem to have!
KSGunGuy 01 I agree!
I almost bought berreta but luckily the shop i went to had tarus for 200 cheaper so of course i settled for tarus and i couldnt be more happier i got a tarus and now im tarus for life baby its a way better gun
the comedian it is a great pistol
I've owned both, quite a few, and I agree with you 100 percent. Good review!!
Tom Miller Thank you!
Wish the Taurus version had the curve on the front strap of the grip like the Beretta has. Makes it look better IMO.
PaulMishima I agree!
That does make the Taurus look older.
Very good review! Non biased, both great guns. The PT92 is solid! Might be one of the best Taurus makes, but you can't deny Beretta! Best bet is buy both, lol.
kungpowlarry I agree. Keep the Taurus as a range gun and the Beretta as your nice, round the home/go to war pistol.
I'd like a PT92, but I have far too many 9mm's already.
I liked the PT92 so much that when Academy put them on sale I bought another on. I also have a Taurus PT1911 45acp and a PT111 G2 9mm. Great guns
David Thomas yes they are! Thanks for watching.
I have converted some of the M9 Beretta magazines for use in the PT92. The Taurus PT92AF has become my all around weapon. Something you missed that the Taurus has over the Beretta is the warranty.
This is true! I have always tried to point out the Taurus warranty in my other videos.
Ibought my pt92 in 1985, s/s beautiful and reliable.
Awesome firearm!
My pt92 is my every day carry. Love it great gun.
I have the Taurus with trigger work, target sights and Pachmeyer grips. It's my regular sidearm for the past 30 years or so. Wouldn't take two Beretta's for it.
Nice!
I have owned the 92 fs. I now own two pt 92s, there is a reason for this. It's all around better hand gun. I love the 92fs, but much better hand gun in the pt 92.
I have a Taurus model 66 .357 and a PT1911 SS and love them both. Never any issues.
Smedleydog1 I need to look into a .357 mag, it is my favorite round!
Smasher Devourer True, it is a pain to have to go with mags that may be a bit tougher to source, especially when 92 series Beretta are so popular.
John Brown That would be the safest choice.
Love me some 92 but I just bought a pt92 afs-d . Not worried about rounds. I usually carry a lcp2 with extra mag but the pt is basically a Beretta with a better safety location
Taurus PT92 AFS-D any day of the week.
Right on!
@@travisp11 Oh yeah ..the only gun that is as eye candy and even more accurate on this planet is Tanfoglio defiant stock master ;-)
@@WV591 Tangfoglio makes some sweet pistols! I owned an EAA Witness-P back in the day that I regret selling.
True! They are both awesome pistols!
My cousin was in that navy as a corpmen attached to the marine 1-9 he carried a m9 in combat but when he came home he always went for the Taurus (he had a personal m9/92 not sure he could of carried)
The frame mounted safety decocker is very nice and that is a feature that many people like.
Is the beretta 92 compact better? Is it super small do you still get a good 3 finger grip or do you find yourself tucking the pinky under the mag ?
I have medium sized hands and can get a full grip on it with no pinkie under the mag
Pro2AGuy Good answer and I agree with you completely!
I honestly want both of them. But with the money, I'll probably go with the Taurus first. Thank you for this video I appreciate it
Thanks for watching!
I loved it and was sorry I had to sell it when we moved back to Australia.
jeff king Awesome info and that is a shame you had to let her go!
I just bought my pt92 and love it went shooting last week shot 250 rounds
Right on! It’s a great pistol!
I have both a PT92 and Beretta 92 and they are both great guns but the Taurus feels better to me and smother, also the safety placement is miles ahead of the Beretta.
I agree!
Are both firearms ambidextrous on the safety?
Christopher Van Slambrouck yes!
I like Beretta 92FS
Cool!
Yup, the 92 is tough to beat. If you don't mind spending a bit more, go with the 92, I bought a 92FS inox compact a few years ago and I love it.
@@travisp11 Yeah I am actually looking at the blue steel M9. I can pick one up for just under $600. With the upgrades I mentioned above, the final price comes out to $710. While the Taurus is hard to beat in value ($400) I just do not get the same aftermarket support.
I agree. If you want to do any upgrades the Taurus has some options but not the support, like you said, of the Beretta.
saving up to replace my current edc with a pt92. honestly i think its the superior firearm. a big part of that is the safety location. i have no idea why Beretta decided placing the safety on the slide was a good idea when introducing this weapon in the US military trials. especially since previous open breach design pistols from Beretta like the cheetah had the safety on the fucking frame! and since the US was coming off of the 1911 which has a frame mounted safety, youd think they would keep it in the same place so as to provide a more familiar control system to the users they were marketing to. taurus was smarter about it and placed it in an area that is easier and quicker to actuate. then there is the price. you can find these brand new as low as $380 maybe a little less if you can find a decent sale. making this about 200 dollars cheaper.
D. DIAZ I agree!
Sounds pretty cool!
THE SKYLINE GODZILLA Awesome info!
Yep! 1/10th of an inch is the difference between bouncing off and penetrating a Russian T-90 Main Battle Tank!
I don't know why Beretta hasn't taken Taurus's lead and move the safety to the frame. Same goes for the Beretta Storm. Why do they insist it be on the slide.
k1assic Good question. IMHO the frame mounted safety is easier to use at the range.
Its tough to get the designer of a gun to let the one who copies their product, take the lead. Beretta is a proven military pistol. The Taurus is a range toy, and home defense gun.
To be fair, I prefer tje safety on the frame too. But Berretta is the original designer. So they wont ever pass the lead to anyone else.
I have been trying to decide between a used Taurus and LE trade in Beretta. Thanks for the comparison.
Brian Martin Glad to help!
Right on! Yeah, that would be a big step above what comes standard on the Beretta and leaps and bounds above the Taurus.
does the Beretta shot as smooth as the Tarus
Jason Korby In my opinion, I feel that the Taurus had less muzzle flip/recoil and was easier to shoot a tighter group.
If I didn't already own the 92F, I would choose the Taurus because of Taurus's commitment to quality, the life time warranty, and price. My 92f has a steel guide rod, I checked it with a magnet and it is the original factory piece I got with the weapon...
Kelly Anne Bishop O agree!
Taurus PT92 was my carry gun for 20 years with not a single problem ever.
Great pistol!
Thank you for remaining as unbiased as possible. I'm debating over purchasing the stainless Taurus and the Inox Beretta. Leaning more towards the Taurus
The inox Berettas are beautiful but it is hard to beat the budget friendly Taurus.
@@travisp11 exactly. And I wish more people would realize that 'cheaper' doesnt necessarily mean 'lesser quality'
@@prestonnormile9996 this is true
does it matter 2 more bullets?
Really enjoying these videos keep them coming
Taurus Pt111 G2 Will do!
I've been taking an interest in Taurus' pistols for quite some time and I have heard that the PT 92 and their 1911 are good quality guns for their price points. In all honesty I'm more of a 1911 guy, but the PT 92 doesn't seem half bad for the money.
Benjamin Danielsen For under $400 the PT92 is a solid, all metal shooter.
travisp11 I have a friend who has the Beretta and both of us agree that the slide mounted safety is an annoyance at the very least.
Benjamin Danielsen That is a good idea. I tend to grasp the slide over the top with my palm which makes for an uneasy slide charge.
Five year old video and the same question is still being asked today. Which one? Both for me. Both are solid performers. The Beretta has a bit more polish, but as the comments suggest, the Taurus is indeed a fine choice.
I agree. I enjoy my Beretta 92 FS Compact just as much as PT92. Both are great pistols.
I've had the PT92 for about twenty years now. Never had a problem with it. The sights are adjustable which helps me immensely. I've fired the M9 (the military version of the 92) when I was a military policeman in the Army. I prefer the PT92, its a great range gun.
dilbert bob I agree!
I have several Berettas FS and S and 2 Taurus PT92 in stainless I love them both and both are fantastic shooters and lookers. Keep in mind that Taurus is using the foundary and tooling that once belong to Beretta in Brazil but sold to Taurus
40thStangGT Yup. I think it helps explain the solid build.
The Beretta grips will work on a "Non-Decocker" model of the Taurus PT92 because the top screw is higher on the non- decocker Taurus.
Right on!
I might buy used Taurus from pawn.... cheap price but has been used????
Older Taurus pistols still have a lifetime warranty. I would buy one if the price is right.
Nice!! They are a great value and run well!
I just found your video and thank you for it. My first EDC was a Taurus PT-92. I am now looking for a new PT-92. So i choose the PT-92. But i have never shot a 92FS. So i could be a little one sided.
They are both great pistols but do have their own unique characteristics.
@@travisp11 I am sure they do. And I just got a new PT-92 today. I am very happy.
Bought a beretta 92fs... Just because it was my first airsoft gun lol sold it and bought a Taurus... Rail... Safety position... I carry it a lot lol
Will probably buy an used old beretta just to have it around but yeah ... For carrying... Taurus
Right on!!
That Taurus is more similar than M9A1. By the way how good is that gun?
She ran fine for years before I traded her. No issues and it is one of the few Taurus pistols that Taurus haters really don't rag on because it has a very good track record
Buying the Beretta now, I just can't buy a Taurus version when I can get a Beretta, there's a reason Taurus and many others have replicated it....why not get the original?
Pootie Tang true and Beretta prices have dropped considerably
@@travisp11 yep, not too bad at all
Still expensive to buy a Beretta plus the frame safety on the taurus feels better there
I have a taurus PT 92 (no decocker), and a Beretta 96D. Love them both, and have noticed the only difference I ever have is ammo.
Taurus will eat everything, including steel case
Beretta can be kinda finicky
Stephen Koski good to know! The Taurus must have slightly looser tolerances in the chamber.
@@travisp11 I've noticed that in a few different firearms, surprisingly the one that I figured would have the problem, didnt lol
I'm getting ready to buy a beretta 92a1 in a week or so, but I will get a taurus pt92 next, when I can find one in stock.
Yeah, they are a bit hard to find right now but are worth it.
I had a PT100 .40. reliability was shit. How is reliability with the PT92? I will give an edge in warranty to Taurus tho.
Bryan Baker My PT92 has been rock solid. Check out some of the long term tests on YT. There are several approaching the 10-15 year old mark and I have yet to hear anything bad about the gun. You should be fine if you buy one.
I have both...love both 🤷🏿♀️
Big Glo Right on!
1 is a Beretta, the other is a Taurus, what more is there to know? Resale value?
Nothing beats the real thing
I dont disagree but the Taurus does come close.
Charles Huse all good info. The M9 is very hard to beat!
@@travisp11 Not to mention the fact that some of the upgrade parts for the M9/92FS may not even fit in the PT92 due to some of the relocation of certain parts.
@@CharlesHuse if true, your brother is in the extreme minority
I've always wondered, does the slide on the Taruas fit on the Beretta? I was just wondering how close to each other was the frames.
When I bought mine, they retailed for about $199. New.
What are they made out of steal ? On both
funa mota I'm going to guess steel and some sort of aluminum alloy.
I know the frame is alloy, it was easy to enlarge the feed ramp on the frame, that made mine eat large mouth hollow points well
the tarus is also drop forged instead of cast.
Nice clone comparison as I have never handled the Taurus but I love the 92FS...Good stuff...
Scott F. Both of them are great choices!
You can get a guiderod laser for the Beretta.
Good to know! Thanks!
I agree!
I replaced the polymer guide rod in my Beretta w a steal one for $10.
easy 308 Cool! Good price!
Are magazines interchangable?
I dont think so. I believe you could have to cut a new mag release for it to work.
The only drawback of the PT92 is that, I'm told, it doesn't like to feed steel cased ammo, although the rounds in the video came out of the Taurus and they are indeed steel cased.
any intel on surplus GI -USA Beretta's now Army has gone 2 the Sig's ?? might be lotsa of them @ good prices soon? TY again
Kipper White Are the M9s already going for sale? If so, that will be awesome!
Travis, have a question. What's the army gonna do with all those Berettas after they switched for Sig's.
PeterPaul67 Just like the 1911s showing up in the CMP inventory the 92s will probably end up there too for civilian purchase.
@@travisp11 Thanks. Have a nice day.
Me personally I own the taurus 92 and don't have any issues with it but I still think the Beretta actually shoots and feels smoother.
mags are "compatible" between both. the Beretta mags need to have the catch hole filed larger on the top side of the hole.
REBELsst Good to know!
