@@dietwedge I dont really think that "" shill review "" claim holds up. Its much more that the Verge guys were approaching the phone a bit more realistic in terms of what was promissed by RED and what its actually good for in the emd.

Because it was supposed to be released last year ,and has been delayed heavily.

LYF hAXx they could have updated the processor since the phone wasn’t into the mass production until 2018 when the snapdragon 845 was released. I kinda think they did that on purpose to cheap out.. this phone is literally not good at anything!

HTC made a 3D phone and it failed. 3D only for coolness factor is dead. It has to have some use like VR or AR and that even hasn't caught on yet. Coolness factor fades after a while and if it uses more battery, it'll fade faster.
Hellcat M I had the HTC 3D like 6 years ago... coolness fades rear quick.
HTC Evo 3d true gimmick marketing. A few youtube videos to brag about. It was OK
LG also made the Optimus 3D P920. I still have mine and it is still pretty cool, as far as I am concerned.
This is a VERY generous review. The 3D effect is no different from that of the evo 3D back in 2011 (a phone that I had), and that’s not a good thing. You also fail to mention it’s using last year’s snapdragon processor, and the camera sensors, mystifyingly, aren’t RED’s own- they just used Samsung sensors. Yes: a (high-end) camera company makes a phone, and doesn’t bother to innovate with its own sensor.
I just.....don’t get this phone. I hope they don’t abandon it, and that the accessories for it are amazing. Otherwise, it has zero reason to exist.
@@TieDyeShyGuy I've heard multiple reviews say that it's very much like the evo 3D. Maybe they produce the effect differently, but appearance-wise, all I've heard is that "it adds a little depth, especially in videos, and gives some people headaches" which is EXACTLY what the evo 3D did. So I think you're just arguing over the technical details, but for the record I haven't seen it myself so I can't say with 100% certainty.

I can't believe that 3d isn't a standerd option on all tech weather it's a laptop, tv, console, phone, camera or camcorder. It should already be a normal option on all games movie and TV services.

No. No it's not. From a company that lives and dies on its camera quality, the phone should be able at least keep up with the Pixel or iPhone XS 100% of the time. Heck, it should absolutely destroy these phones considering the company making it and considering that they have the "courage" to charge $1200+ for this phone. I would've preferred a single, larger sensor that can handle high quality photos and videos rather than this 3D gimmick garbage. The camera is the one thing I was excited about and they blew it. And if all this was leading to a module with said larger sensor, why not just have that as the default? It's like they knew what we wanted and then completely screwed up the execution.
People with the kind of money for this phone, you're better off with a Note 9, which most people agree is almost without compromise, or the XS Max if you absolutely cannot live without iOS (or iMessage). I really only see diehard RED fans actually buying this phone.

I have been looking for info on a camera that doesn't distort, especially portraits. People will say "hey ya get what ya see!" No, actually you don't. We have two eyes, and cameras generally have only one lenz. I had to think of multiple ways of framing a search question (not binocular), ...Stereo camera? Kinda weird to phrase a visual thing in auditory terms. Well, glad I found this. People either love it or hate it. I guess if you're all about things you can do with an image after taking a picture I can understand. I just want a good photo. Period.
A true 3D that is approaching holographic display effect is truly a revolutionary design for a smartphone. The ability to add a professional RED DSMC camera will be awesome.

@@TonySinc I'm referring to the 3D screen of course. The video makes you believe it's something new while it's not. So hence my question if the 3D is like it is on the 3DS or something else.

This is the first video about the hydrogen one where you can actually see the 3D to some extent anyway when you're looking at these photos that they're showing such as the cat
For stereoscopic photos the cameras should seriously be the same distances apart as your eyes
Can you disable or increase the intensity of the 3D effects like you could do in a Nintendo 3DS system ?

Ironically, the fire phone did it better and surprisingly in a cheaper price point.

CNET went shilling so hard on this review it made the Verge appear to have journalistic integrity in comparison.
I feel the guy over at The Verge did a much better job of presenting this phone
Minus the upgrade in software and apps, is this better than the HTC Evo3D? I had it and this seems like the same gimmick.

I love 3D, but my biggest problem with this is that it appears to be a closed-in system. You can only view your content on the phone itself. I like that it's two identical lenses, they got that right but how do you get your data into two view streams from the encoded 4? I want to view the content on 3D displays and such and it doesn't seem possible to do that when they use proprietary encoding that only the phone can use. So coming from someone who films a lot of 3D, this seems to be a dead product and niche focus market.

And no one you know will ever buy this over priced phone either so it is pretty much DOA. The Verge actually described it the best unlike this video.
So, you broke down it's appeal but not its real world quark; not really any way, I mean the phone is all show and that's all you explained about it.. This isn't a review, this is a "Reveal" if anything.

I saw this phone for the first time last night(father in law has it). As of right now, the phone is buggy. The 3D looks like a slightly higher resolution version of the 3DS.
3d screens has been tried before by LG and HTC
Both have dropped the support for those devices very soon.

3D is pretty much a gimmick since only has a small app store of content.
Like HTC EVO 3D and LG P920 3D it won't be for the mainstream bog standard users. It's a RED, so it's got high tech film industry cred, it'll be pricey but as I said 'it's a RED'. 3D professionals and hobbyists will be salivating but it's certainly not a replacement for facebooking snaps of your macca's

So... a glorified Nintendo 3DS screen? Or a new version of early 90’s attempt on holographic 3D screens? The concept of a 3D phone screen isn’t bad, but I can see where it poses an issue. It’s like asking... would you want to look at your phone as though you’re constantly wearing 3D glasses?
Just from my experience, and coming from someone who is an avid user of my Nintendo 3DS... sometimes, it feels good to turn off that 3D and stick with something that’s easier on the eyes.
I’m living a nightmare with mine first I can’t access cause says wrong password and to get worse my sim is stuck 😡😡😡😡😡
It's fun, it's cool, it's awesome, it's not for the masses but just to show off just like optimus 3D and evo 3D.

They didn't even make the camera or lense and decided to buy 2nd rate parts from other companies and just added there own colour science for photography. This phone is literally another essential flop. waste of money .

For the price, no. The software
looks generic and uninspired, the camera isn’t the best you can find on the market; LCD screen, massive bezels, and outdated tech and not only that, but RED wants you spending more money on probably what’s going to be some expensive modulars.
The only good part about this phone is the 3D screen, which for most people will get old after an hour.
