- Off the back of our Maxident Album Intro here is my reaction to the title track on the album, Case 143! I once again thoroughly enjoyed this song, and their choreo in the dance performance was INSANE!! I love them so much.
Please, as always, let me know what I missed from this song as I am sure there was plenty or I got something wrong! One day I might actually work out what the song is about first time around XD but not today!!

Having read some of the comments already, I realize I have misidentified the theme of the song as "Toxic Relationship" instead of it being about "falling in love". I can only apologize for not paying attention properly and trying to over analyze it! Please forgive my stupidity!! And thank you so much for pointing out my mistake, I do appreciate it!

It's totally upto you how you want to interpret it! Idk if you read my comment in your previous videos, but yeah I just gave a theory about how Maxident could be perceived as a toxic relationship between fans and idols. So perhaps that's where you got the toxic relationship part from. Anyways, hahaha. Thanks for your videos. Merry Christmas!
There is no indicator that it is a toxic relationship. Only that they feel like it's some sort of sudden and terrifying and confusing feeling. So they set the "cops/head" on the job to investigate the heart. Trying to figure out how and why you fall in love can feel like a detective case. Such a cute and fun concept.
Just before Seungmin skips into the screen to rewind, the cops (the head) unplugged the heart. Seungmin skips into the scene then and says, nope! Rewind that! And then we see that basically the head and the heart (the cops and the lovestruck ones) have become one - the new outfit is a combination of both outfits/colors from the cops and the lovestruck ones, so we see that the cops (the head) has accepted the heart and they reversed the unplugging of the heart by coming together and plugging it back in.
Changbin does have the second deepest voice in the group (you'll see in other songs, like Chronosaurus, that he can bring a very nice deep vocal tone), and ya, I love it too :D The rasp he can bring to his voice is..
Personally i don't think it's about a toxic relationship. More about your inner conflict when you freshly fall in love.
I interpret the song like this: In the beginning the little hearts enter Felix -> he freshly and suddenly fell in love.
I think the two versions of Stray Kids represent the heart (the love boys) and the brain (police). The police/brain tries to stop the unknown feeling and chases the love boys. In the middle of the video the police nearly won. They pull the plug and the heart was chained, that's why Seungmin rewinded the video. In the end the heart wins against the brain to give love a chance and accept the feeling.

someone might have already pointed it out, but i couldn’t see a comment about it so i just wanted to say that 143 is a code for “i love you” that people would send on pagers. each number represents the amount of letters in the word, so i (1) love (4) you (3). i think that’s where the line “i wanna send my code to you” comes from :) the 🤟 sign from the choreo is also i love you in sign language, if i remember correctly.
on another note, if you want to find something they’re bad at there’s not much lmao but lee know can’t swim, if that makes you feel any better 🥴 judging from the shower curtain they used as an actual curtain for an obscene amount of time they’re also not very well-versed in home decor, so they at least left Something for us to be better at than them 😭
12:24 I’m not sure if you missed it but there’s a cool bit where the green screen splits the screen and you can see Leeknow drop from the top screen to join the bottom and scares the others.
Also echoing the others saying that it’s not necessarily about toxic love. It’s their first real love song (according to them)
It's a great track and their first title track about Love. I love that they do things so SKZ and not Love the way everyone else will doit.
Yes, the M/V has references to The Shining.
Two sets of SKZ: one set are the Love Monsters, the other are the Police who know nothing about Love. Just watch the progression and the rewind to when the FINALLY get it. They break that 4th wall and come through to the world.
I love the Maxident era! It showcases each of them so well! Seungmin as center?!? Binnie singing after they become plugged in?!? The fits? The music?!
P.s. I find nothing wrong with you appreciating how fab Chan looks in the uniform. It's just FACT. 😁
Choreo in kpop is a thing. Being a center is a thing. It's on purpose that your eyeballs track specific movements. It makes me go back and rewatch over and over.
There is a video of the original choreography by the choreographers floating around. Watch for fun.
I think you shouldn't start from the beginning because there is soooo much (literally hundreds of hours of content and dozens upon dozens of tracks) and now with SKZ REPLAY (25 Tracks) AND the upcoming FULL Japanese Album comeback, I fear that you are going to be too behind to catch up. Always love your reactions! But I always laugh because you seem to seek for a deeper meaning in everything even if it isn't there haha. This song in message is pretty straight simple if you just look at the lyrics. It is Stray Kids way of writing a love song, they are in love but are confused about all those emotions, because well love is confusing. The way the MV ties into it is that it represents the two sides of the brain being in conflict with each other when in love. So the side that is infected with the love monsters are representing the emotions and the police Stray Kids represent the rationality that is trying to cope with these emotions. When the police pull the plug, they eliminate the emotions almost solving the case but they decide that a world without love is not worth it so they turn back time by rewinding and putting the plug back in so the love surges en thrives! Another cute thing of course is that they then jump through the screen, signaling to the fact that the love they are talking about is for us watching.
Also the code bit is because 143 means I love you in code language I believe so when Chan says I am going to send my code to you that is wat he is referring to, also 8 letters are the letters you need to spell I love you so this song is just basically a big love declaration haha.
case 143 is like such a different title track from them but yet it achieved so many awards, also yes Hyunjin did pretty sure fracture his hand bc his hand got stuck between a door, his hand is good now tho thankfully. love the reaction as always!
I agree that they are above everyone else, they are unique and extremely talented. And I wish that I too discovered them from the beginning. There is one thing similar between this video and Venom, the hallway and carpet. In Venom, you see it when Seungmin is sitting on the chair with the red string. And yes it is also in The Shining, and Lee Know peeking through the door is a The Shining reference too. Enjoying this Stray Kids journey with you.
Don't worry about interpreting something wrong. I kind of understand how you went there, because I had seen (besides mine) several comments about the theories that Venom is related to Case 143 due to similarities in the MV. As Venom is about toxic love, it's understandable that you thought Case 143 was as well.
I personally think Case 143 actually goes before Venom, when you first fall in love it's new, it's fresh, it's exciting, but then the love turns toxic and you want to leave but also want to stay (pun not intended lol). I'm hoping this storyline will continue in the next album, their first fulllength Japanese album ^^
You asked something that's not their forté, I know some things:
- Acting normal. I've been actively following them and award season is hi-la-ri-ous. Several red carpet pictures are questionable to say the least, Han almost fell because he thought it was important to grab Hyunjin's butt. Not to even start about their acceptance speeches and then everyone simping over the one member that's giving the acceptance speech.
- Not giving out spoilers. Only it's at a level that every. single. thing. can be analysed. You'll see Christmas EveL soon (or already have) and it had a clock in it that spoiled the next comeback date. Lee Know did the choreography for Case 143 in a (very chaotic I might add, referring back to the first point) zoomvlive (most members had covid) back in March (release was October).
So yeah, they do have flaws hahahaha.

I know a lot of people have already left comments about interpretations of the song, but I want to note that Chan himself, on multiple occasions, has said that SKZ music and videos are designed to be open for interpretation - so please enjoy the music and take from it what you will. There truly are no wrong answers and always different ways to see the songs depending on your own experiences. SKZ also leave many recurring imagery, designs, dance motifs, and other easter eggs in their videos to provide a rich world of imagination. I enjoy very much your expression of joy for the music and your diving in - I hope to hear more of your thoughts on their amazing discography! I don't think it's necessarily something toxic. What I got is that it's more about the confusion about liking someone and eventually accepting those feeling. In the video the cops are trying to stop the feelings, but eventually realize is better to let it happen.
I love that every time I hear this song, I always remember Changbin teasing Chan because there is no H in the song. 😂
I love this set up of doing multiple things related to one song for each reaction! There are also "making of" videos for most of their MV's that are pretty fun to watch, especially the CASE 143 one if you're interested! The filming of this MV was so crazy to see. This song was such an interesting change for SKZ. I think overall most people really liked it, it didn't quiiite hit home for some others though which is understandable. It's rather experimental pop so it might not be for everyone. This is the first ever love song title track they've done! Which is pretty interesting. They have plenty of B-sides that are love songs but it's interesting they've never done it as their main concept until almost 5 years into their career. Kind of rare.
Anyways, I saw in your pinned comment you've kind of gotten the jist from everyone else on the meaning. I think lots of SKZ songs are kind of open to multiple ways of interpretation which is part of the beauty of music! There are multiple songs that they've explicitly said are meant to be for fans, thankfully none of them are really about toxicity 😆 The comical thing about this song that SKZ said made it feel like a love song only they could do, was that it wasn't particularly lovey-dovey. The vibe of the song and the lyrics isn't really "Oh i'm so in love! 🥰" it's more like, "What the hell is happening, am I falling in love?! WTF IS GOING ON!!"
To touch on the subject of toxic fans (since you've brought it up both here and in the Maxident Intro) unfortunately in every fandom there always will be problematic behavior 😕 Just inevitable when you have millions of people together in an online community. There have been some things that happened recently with over-obsessed fans stalking them near their dorms and JYPE took legal action (thank goodness). Para-social relationships can get really tricky the more normalized they get. Even though there may be good intentions, some fans truly just lose sight of what are appropriate boundaries to have with a celebrity they admire. It's a shame that it happens because, like you said, SKZ really treats their fans very well. They really make a big effort to be transparent, kind, and appreciative with Stays. So obviously it absolutely sucks when you have people in the fandom that are invasive, objectifying, possessive, immature, or say hurtful things.
But the important thing to remember is that with every fandom, the percentage of toxic fans will seem higher than it actually is because they're simply the loudest. Honestly, there are so so many lovely Stays that are respectful, kind, intelligent people. I think SKZ knows that. I certainly hope so. But unfortunately I think a lot of the "normal" fans that aren't problematic tend to be quieter online.
But also there are so many sweet moments with Stay's that happen all the time! Stay's do their best to give them all the love and appreciation in return. There's a very sweet moment from one of their concerts in the US from this past summer where Stay's organized a surprise for the boys. It was just a video that played on the big LED screens at the end of the concert of a bunch of different stays congratulating them on all their success and saying how proud Stay's are of how far they've come. Thanking them for all the good times over the years, and talking about how they've impacted fans lives.

The boys become “infected” with love and they call the “police” to figure out what this feeling is as they try to fight it. As it goes on they get more lovey-dovey and even the investigators get overtaken by it. They try to unplug from the outlet trying to turn it off. When Seungmin rewinds, you’ll see they all actually plug it back in as a sign of them giving in to the love and just going with it (the end chorus) This storyline is so cute I’ve watched this video so many times 😂
As far as I understood it, it’s more like head v heart and heart wins in the end. It’s a wonderful love song.
Your calm but genuine appreciation cracks me up. Like when you just go "Why are you guys so cool? Stop itttt". This song is so fun haha; it's like they're trying to arrest themselves and it's not a normal "falling in love" song at ALL despite all the little hearts and some of the spliced in cutesy vibes. It's also really cool seeing the behind the scenes how they did some stunts to make the MV (like when Lee Know jumps to the bottom half of the screen from the top)!

I subscribed after watching your Maxident Album intro video. I adore how much you appreciate the boys' artistry, personality, and the general thoughtfulness of your words. You have a great style and I'm looking forward to watching you explore the whole SKZ discography.
Regarding your reaction to Case 143, I found it hilarious that you hyperfocused on whether Hyunjin was the bad guy. Really, the video is painting the heart monsters (representing love/infatuation) as the bad guy as it can infect you against your will. When Felix is infected with love, it causes all sorts of trouble (e.g. dramatic language like "can I be your boyfriend" which led to the chicken slap and then pandemonium and fire lol).
Then the police are called to investigate why he feels this way (why do I keep getting attracted...).
It's a great metaphor for how love comes out of nowhere and how one tries to fight this feeling because they find the feelings confusing and don't like feeling out of control. The police (our rational self) tries to "pull the plug" on the heart, but in the end, SKZ ends up embracing the love whole heartedly. I'm sure we can read this in a few different ways, but I like this interpretation :D
I believe the song is more about first feeling of love and not knowing how to handle it. Not about toxic stay relationships. Love your stuff! 😃😃😃

Love this track! I was waiting to see if you got the shining reference. I agree that the choreo is smooth in this one! and yes Chan looks good in that outfit! If you wanna see the behind the scene of the filming of the MV there's a video out for that and it's really funny and you get to see some of what goes on behind the scenes!

In the dance practice Felix smooth travel on the floor right before his part in the first chorus is real smooth!

It is I.N. that is the cop that has the gun and shoots the heart monster. Then the heart monster pops and it is also I.N. - Showing the conflict between your head and your heart.

I love everything about is as the vocals and raps are in point as ever and Jisung is just completely wreckig me this comeback what I mean by this is he has jumped straight to being my ult wrecker (I'm not ready to have 3 ult biases in SKZ yet) and this man just does something to not only my ears when he raps but also to my eyes.
I just love the way he raps as to me it's unique in a way.
Also I gotta give my love to my two ult biases Felix and Hyunjin as they also did such an amazing job.
The MV is everything I needed and I love the use of the colour pink aswell as it's one of my fav colours also I'm loving the story aswell and the lads did something they haven't done before and that's having a love song as the title track
If i remember correctly. They are falling in love, but they haven't felt that way for someone before. The other thoughts (them as cops) try to shut down the feeling (love) because they don't know why they feel that way. (you can see in the mv that they pull the plug trying to shut down the emotion) but the others are trying to fight the cops, because they want to feel the emotion. They were able to put the plug back in and they won.

I think in between the stretches, it would be great if you should check out the skz replay album, there aren't any mvs for them so you should be able to finish the 8 songs quite quickly, per se like 4 per vid so you can just be done with 2 uploads on your end!!

I don't knownif someone commentzd it already, but the MV contains in fact multiple references to the Shining: the hole in the wall, the carpet in the corridor, the maze toy and kids tricycle, etc...
Also why you had feelings of deja vu with Venom: because the carpet is the same! It is THE carpet from Shining.
(It also appears in a gg MV I saw recently, possibly one of (G)I-dle's)
I have yet to hear other songs from Maxident since I’ve been out of the loop for a while, but I can’t wait to see what he thinks if “Give Me Your TMI” I heard that song not even a day after the music video came out and oh my goodness, instantly fell in love and added it to my playlist, so I can’t wait to see how he reacts to that, cause it’s definitely an interesting concept
I actually didn’t see the M/V properly until recently because when I originally heard it I was getting ready in the morning so I didn’t have time to really pay attention, also blaming that on my ADHD, so it’s definitely not what you’d expect at first of you don’t pay attention to the video the first time
Its clear an earlier comment put you in the track of toxic relationship when in the end you were talking about a love virus and how falling in lijn be might feel that way. Its like.thats what you were getting from it yourself but you thought it had to be about toxic relationships because of the comment. While Chan would say: what you see if it is always good.
Anyway...thought it was a great reaction!! Loved how you edited the shining in!! And how you immediately got that. There are more references to horror films or thrillers. And what can we say? Falling in love can feel pretty scary!
So.. this is gonna be long
Right off the bat.. no toxicity (i think a stay misinterpreted it or smthn)
There are 3 skz in the song (there are 4 but the 4th are the sailor skz on the cruise rooftop, they are just there for the choreo)
1st are the red white blue skz who get possessed by the love monsters (aka the emotions that come with falling in love)
2nd are police skz
3rd are the black dragon skz in the end in their lair(i think it's the heart)
1st skz is suddenly attacked by these emotions and they don't know what to do. Police skz are the 'logical side' who is trying to stop these emotions coz they can be dangerous so they send an undercover cop(hyunjin) to keep an eye out(case 143 is the case of catching the love monster). 1st skz is mindboggled by the emotions and the shining hallway (where they got possessed) becomes a crime scene
Police skz is trying to find clues of what happened and police I.N runs into 1st skz I.N which leads them to 1st skz vandalizing the trailer park with love messages. The 1st skz who are still very much confused, start to warm up to the idea of love, so they escape and are caught vandalizing the police office where police skz finally catches a pink heart and keep it as evidence. This is where the 3rd skz comes in who have completed accepted the love emotions. BUT the police arrive at their lair and 'pull the plug' on the 'love shit'.Just when the police skz think they have won, Seungminnie rewinds the time to go back to when the police skz haven't caught them to put the plug back in because they wanna be in love and they have finally accepted the feelings, they are going to run head first and risk falling into love. In the end the black dragon skz wins

If I am not mistaken, Hyunjin was wearing a cast because him getting injured while colliding into a door/door closing on his hand. I have heard it described both ways, depending on articles and translations.
Hyunjin has had a damaged hand for a few months now. Even on tour he had it strapped since the Maniac Tour. On the floor sliding but he has to use his injured hand to slide and you can see on his face that he is in pain. Wish they had change the choreo or accommodate his injury like they did with Felix's back

No toxic relationship in these lyrics, they are just deep in love. Also maxident is tied into the storyline but in my opinion its better if you look at it with fresh eyes, yes there are several references to oddinary in the trailer and you should recognize them but the vibe is completely different.
Its a bit hard to explain but I do this with pretty much all of stray kid's new comebacks as focusing too much on the previous storyline will skew your perception of the current storyline. For example hyunjin isn't doing anything evil-like here at all compared to the oddinary album, not saying he was necessarily actually evil in oddinary. But getting fresh perspective for each new comeback is important and then you make connections

as for hyunjin's hand he hurt it while they were on tour in june/july and he had a cast for a long time, then he had a surgery for it and again had a cast but now it's fine. sadly he had to perform with his hurt hand and in one of the performances during promotions they took the cast off and placed a bandaid on the stitches ://
I never watch the teasers because to your point it gives too much away and I want to be surprised when I see the video. I'm also the person who doesn't read a book synopsis before I read it because I don't want to know too much. Either way, I'm happy you like it.

You got it with the references the M/V has LOADS of inspo from the movie The Shining. The carpet in the corridor is identical to the hotel in the movie. The “here’s Johnny” axed wall scene with Lee Know. There’s probably a bunch more but I love their attention to detail ❤

I wouldn't say it's a toxic relationship. The best synopsis I ready was that the two groups are two different parts of someone's head fighting after catching feelings for someone. The lovey group wants to go all in on a relationship but the police group doesnt because they've been hurt in the past. After Seungmin rewinds things the two groups merge and its basically like you can't hold back your feelings just because of bad experiences in the past.
If you want to understand the storyline better, i really recommend you to check out jordan orme's reaction to case 143, he explained the story well.
Something that is easily missed, the carpet design is the same as the movie “The Shining “. Exactly the same colors and octagonal patterns 🤷🏼♀️

The Shining has a few other references like the carpet and mazes. And I’d appreciate it if you would stop calling the nicest person ever stupid - you - stop it. You’d have to be a blooming genius to catch all the meanings in SKZ MVs.

Stays in the comments, y'all, he's not completely wrong haha. I am guessing he saw my comments on his previous videos where I typed my own little theory about Maxident. To me, the maximum accident of love is that it turns into an obsession. And this obsession is represented by the "heart monster". The entire album kinda does show that obsession can come from toxic fans and saesangs. Felix's iconic line in Case 143, Lee Know's iconic line in Taste- they all have this eerie factor to them. Case 143 ending with Lee Know trynna jump outta the screen as if suggesting they want to appear more human, rather than just being idols. It all points to this idea of toxic fans. Anyway, it's just a theory.
