I'm stunned by the number of people complaining about Squire's shyness/behavior in this interview. Seems like any other introvert who expresses himself most through his art. Here's a thought: Would you prefer someone who yaps on and on about how incredibly awesome & talented they are or a rather humble, quiet genius who blessed the world with his incredible talent? I'd happily take the latter.
Agreed . He makes his point , just like another person might in a more excitable way , which can be irritating .a lot of louder people tell their same old anecdotes over and over to new ears . It’s good that he doesn’t try and change his self so that on a superficial way he appears to be more interesting.we’re all different , with different voices .
It’s interesting. Billy Duffy cites Johnny Thunders from the Heartbreakers as his inspiration. The Heartbreakers was the band Malcolm McLaren ripped off to create the Pistols.
It's a good interview, he's unusually candid here, if people are talking about his manner he's always pretty much nonchalant, it's not really shyness more indifference
His guitar work on 2nd coming is on another level. My favorite album by far. He's gave me many happy memories and especially 30th june 2012 in manchester watching live with my wife, cheers john
@handsomestranger8211 you must have been so disappointed to see them back in 2012 where they only played 2 (!!!!) songs off their second album (2 albums in 34 years let's not forget) ! I saw them in Finsbury park, London - they were very good. My verdict is that if only they had more songs then they would have lasted longer. They didn't. They used all their talent in their debut album then did what most working class people do when they got the cash was to then piss it all away on drugs, lose all the goodwill of their huge fan base, realise they were only a one-album bad and so when they popped up again half a decade later in a completely different music scene they were pretty much doomed. 😭The decline of John Squires almost mirrors that of Johnny Marr - he left the Smiths aged 23 and had successfully managed to write nothing interesting ever since !
Y’all are trippin. I hella enjoyed this interview. 🍄 It answered so many of my questions about his influence as an artist. He’s genuine and answers Dave’s questions as best as he can express. Much love to John Squire & Dave Haslam.
Thanks for uploading. Credit to Dave Haslam on this. John Squire's clearly not the most effusive person but he managed to eek out some really interesting stuff.
Funny he corrects the interviewer saying waterfall was actually on the second album, but still talks about second coming as the second album when talking about the break up.
@Paul Spencer Yeah, Brown said that Reni stayed in bed all day, missed rehearsals, interviews etc, and didn't get up til 9pm. I also reckon that the musical direction that Squire went in with Second Coming left Reni unmotivated. He probably just didn't believe in the music as much anymore.
23:00 This interview really made clear an issue I was mistaken about. When John Squire said 'He wouldn't work with him again anyway', I thought John meant Goldstein. It was Ian Brown not working again with Reni. All this time I thought it was their disagreement about a Heavy Metal Manager. Wow! That must have been some fight.
@@Dbusdriver71 no Ian and Reni the pa key had an argument, Reni didn't want to go to a big label no doubt because he can barely be bothered with life let alone the demands of a Big record Label, guys a drag, just check his sad attitude at the Roses reunion on what was a "celebration" at least for the 3/4s of the band

Feels like he's saying other people, aside from the band members, had great influence on their sound and those people are no longer around, so why reform and sound like shite.
@Ronnie McColl i didnt say that. I just think his cold and boring personality is the polar opposite of the music he made. It's just a little bizzare. Nothing that his bandmates haven't said in the past either
He’s answering isn’t he.nonsense to talk of personality,he has one, just like everybody else.different settings bring out different sides of people.honesty is the most important quality in a person.he seems honest doesn’t he. I don’t think we want a world of Lionel Blair’s do we.there is nothing more boring than people with an anecdote for everything they say,as if giving a personal account of an experience leads to a better understanding of what is being talked about.the one thing you notice about chatty people if you spend time with them is how they repeat the same anecdote time after time and tell it like they are doing it for the first time, now that’s boring surely.
I'm sure he could care less about what strangers think about his personality or music. The disrespect and lack of kindness in these comments make me sick.

"the pistols were the band that made me want to learn guitar". The Roses, and particularly Johns playing made me want to learn it. Thanks John.
Johnny Rotten inspired me to sing!
John is witty but in a very quiet deadpan way❤

Them guitar riffs are the back bone of the roses.
Met JS and the roses roadies in Southampton airport. Lovely fellas, had a right good chinwag.
What a fascinating man! :)
Fucking love John squire and I’m not sure why

His favorite Smith’s song is Ask.
I hung up me Plektrums 😂
Around 24:00, John explains why Reni left the band in 1995.
I believe Ian tells a very different story.
@Paul Spencer
Yeah, Brown said that Reni stayed in bed all day, missed rehearsals, interviews etc, and didn't get up til 9pm. I also reckon that the musical direction that Squire went in with Second Coming left Reni unmotivated. He probably just didn't believe in the music as much anymore.
I'll say it. John Squire is a lad.
I’ll say it Dave hasslem is a girl
He's sirtainly not a lass
I wanna be John Squire
I love his droll demeanour.
Thanks!
He's like a much cooler Karl Pilkington.
I was literally thinking the same...similar sense of humour
I'm so glad they got came back just to do gigs. Wish they had made some new music.
They did! They made two new songs. After that everyone wanted them to stop making new music immediately.
All for one and beautiful thing
his personality in his playing
Definitely. Bye Bye Badman is the business.
Cheer up John mate
Smoked half an oz of kush before the interveiw by the sound of his voice

He physically finds it hard to say "songs" when John's Squite is there. CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONS
All of his guitar work is outstanding. Roses and seahorses. So what if he's shy / awkward in interviews.
it shows a feeling man that he carried guilt for knackering that guy's record for all of that time
